North Side Notices - Issue 1 Started by: Desmand on Apr 08, '14 00:03

The day was finally here and Desmand was quickly piecing together to the last few articles for the opening issue. Feedback he had received from fans of his sister newspaper (Deliberations with Desmand) had hinted that the complex language and particularly verbose style he harnessed whilst making for excellent reading, sometimes required a little extra thought. And so North Side Notices was born, mixing quick fire interviews, news updates and a look at other worldly topics brought to you by the North Side district.

Streets in 60 Seconds

> 303303, 303303 everywhere! JohnnyNoname, DanTheMan, Goku and Desmand achieve the rank of Godfather on historic day. Numerous competitions are created including singing, poetry, pick pocketing and a scavenger hunt. A chance to get the rest of the community involved in the joyous occasions and earn some prizes. Godfather Cantillons LHM Whatsername takes home the top prize and official (and only) Tier 1 Sleuth Badge.

> Staten Island and The Loop falls. In a take down that seemingly has been brewing for a couple of weeks now, Godfather Numbers4Glory and his family were levelled by the rest of New York and Chicago in a massive 22 kill first wave. Reasons given? Numbers4Glorys unwillingness to share money city wide, share shot reports city wide and preferring to take a demotion and leave cities then help keep New York great. Rest in peace to the fallen.

> FUNKYPI3MONK3YL1PS vows revenge and death to Godfather Goku and Mako due to their unwillingness to aid Numbers4Glory during his demise. He was seen raising the capital to mount an attack and received generous donations from both Godfather Cantillon and BanginBadBitches for the removal of Mako. I am unsure if his next of kin is continuing the donation drive though.

Gambling by Genocide

In each of our city's you can find a casino. For some they are a nice place to relax and spend a few dollar's providing some entertainment with the chance of walking away slightly richer than when you entered. But for others they are a dark and dangerous place, Where wealthy men find themselves in desperate and dire condition's. Some leave flat broke, curse their bad luck but learn there lesson and steer clear. Other's cant resist the riches and glory that they are sure await's there persistence. Often worsening their circumstances and driving some men to their graves. But what impact do these casino's have on our communities? How beneficial or damaging are they to our population? How do we mediate between fun care free gambling and desperate obsession and in some cases addiction? I turned to an experienced and accomplished gambler for some answers.

I interviewed Space-To-The-Pole, My first question was simple. Do you think gambling is bad for the community?

"ERM, No, absolutely not, tis one of the very fabrics of our world. Gambling has always been a huge part of our community and in fact our way
of life. We have had the casino's for a very long time and people have made themselves very rich in playing them.
Granted that the revolutionary dice game has changed the face of gambling as we know it. Some people love, others hate it, often people will block themselves from playing but I think most can agree that this world has benefited from the fruits of its labours, myself included."

So as we can see, Some thrive on the casino's attributing to their wealth and well being. Fluctuating large amounts of money into the system. I spoke to Starscream for his view's on the casino's, He had this to say.

"If you can keep up with your weekly tasks (training your bodyguards, contributing to the crew) and your weekly progress (enough credits to take contracts and buy perks), then it's fine to gamble. When gambling starts eating away at your progress though, then it's time to take a break or consider stopping all together. A big loss can be devastating, to the point of considering suicide and leaving MR temporarily/permanently."

Starscream make's a very good point. There is always the extreme side to gambling and when it goes wrong often it goes terribly wrong. But I wonder how many of our community suffer these bad streaks and depressive states? How many of our men and women have run afoul of the casino's and been driven to the brink, How many still are addicted to the cards and slot's pouring  endless coin's into the casino's chains coffers and who ultimately lose the biggest gamble of all and there life paid forfeit. During my conversations with Starscream and Space-To-The-Pole I asked them if there was any advise they would like to give to anybody considering visiting the casino's.

Space said,
"I think the smart answer would be to, only bet what you can afford to loose. But I'm not to sure how much I believe/follow that logic. Fortune favours the bold my friend, speculate to accumulate, go big or go home, these are a few of the mantras that I repeat to myself when betting."

Starscream would advise,
"Think of your gambling money as a luxurious way to kill time, don't expect any certain outcomes and have a bit of self control. Keep in mind that losing or winning cash and credits doesn't make you a better/worse player, you still need to put in the work to climb up."

So it would seem we have some interesting opinions and thoughts on the subject, some wise words and some serious warnings. What we should take away from this is that the casino's are for fun, that gambling should be treated with respect and self restraint. and if you do decide to try for the big time bet's, only spend what you can afford to lose. God only knows what kind of mess you might find yourself in otherwise.

A special thank you to our two contributors,
Starscream and Space-To-The-Pole.

This concludes our section on the casino's, Thank you for reading and remember, Gamble wisely.
