The Legitimacy of New Crews Started by: RourkeyRourke on Feb 04, '09 16:32
Denver smiles and flashes a wink in RourkeyRourke's direction.

Hey gorgeous.

Turning back to the contributors to this debate, Denver chooses to address a couple of the points raised, speaking slowly as if deliberating over every word.

ThomasRourke, Phantom-Ghost and I discussed the option of me purchasing a legitimate HQ in Chicago with his permission which he was able to do thanks to Hayley allowing him to make such decisions. The fact of the matter is that all of Hayley's members were perfectly able to mail me with any questions they may have had. I would have been better off alive and with an HQ than dead as a Right Hand, am I right?

I appreciate the compliment of you publicly praising my leadership abilities and I hope to prove you right with the opportunity that has been granted to me.

NikkiPheonix, we apologise that the speech was not made straight away, since I'm sure that it was a high priority to appease the masses with a speech while bullets were flying around. I know, I know, sarcasm is the lowest form of wit and such. As has been said, a speech will be made shortly, so hold onto your hats as you get swept off your feet with some exquisite pieces of oratory work.

Denver,

I've been waiting for your speech for the last 6 hours...

You know, if you needed help spelling, you could just ask Rourky..

Again, could be just me, but wouldn't you have been better off leading the family that you'd been put in charge of as second of command? I'm sure you didn't mean it this way, but that certainly sounded like some self-preservation talk. Hopefully you care as much for the survival of those under your care as you do for yourself.

And yet, in not making a speech announcing that you were indeed a legitimate crew, it caused unease and anxiety ESPECIALLY since there were bullets flying around. Looking through the obituaries and the painfully slow progress of this 'war' I can't imagine anyone not having loads of free time on their hands. Hayley herself has had plenty of time to come out here and join in this discussion, but has afforded your authorization speech none. Priorities indeed.
Report Post Tip
I see no such speech is yet to be found, more than an hour later!
Report Post Tip
I'm only a young Earner in this thing of ours. When I see people with bold suits on without an official announcement it confuses and scares me. I imagine other youngsters like myself feel the same way.

Maxie slowly walks towards the higher ranked mobsters from Philly for protection.

He looks at his watch, then pats Maxie on the head.

It's okay Maxie. No worries. This confusion, too, will come to an end....someday. Still nothing? Oh, this announcement is going to be good! (Need I say it?)

To me it seems that the city of Chicago in general had a lack of consideration toward other cities and families currently present in our world. Hayley is in charge of Chicago, she obviously can auth anyone she wants in her city. However, doing it without an announcement or at least informing the other family heads could have caused many other issues.

One cannot forget that every family is here with the priority of protecting their own. Unannounced auths could be taken as rogues who could put members of all families in danger. Especially when such "auths", set up in a city different then Chicago, like Phantom_BFN did. He escaped death for a second. Surely a situation that could have been avoided if a simple speech had been given in the Streets or even a simple informative word to the other leaders and their hands in the leader coffee shop.

For all the families that are out there, protecting their own members, it doesn't matter if you are too busy to write a speech. The safety of your members is more important. Hopefully a few things will be learnt and taken to heart from this experience and in future situations. Hopefully things will be handled with a little more concern and consideration to the other families that are co-existing our world.

To everyone here, I respect your thoughts. It is not usually my way to leave things hanging, or not say anything. Recent events have made it a little more difficult to get this done. I do apologize for the confusion, it was not meant to cause chaos.

Ire, I understand what you are saying, and point taken. I too believe that protecting your family is the top priority. This was discussed with other leaders, and I was given the okay for it. It is a good thing to discuss things with family heads, but if you have seen, none of the recent auths were discussed. I always try to work together with people, and try to show consideration for all.

As I said, it was not my intention to piss anyone off, stir up shit, or leave anyone in the dark.
Report Post Tip
The road to hell is often paved with good intentions, or in this case, a lack of bad intentions. However, the intent here is inarguable.

Hayley, I'm sure the consequences of and questions raised by your actions and lack thereof were not what you meant to happen, but your intent was very clear to those of us who were watching.

You chose, meaning that you made a conscious and deliberate decision, to delay the announcement of Denver's authorization putting not only him in danger, anyone who joined him, and your credibility at risk, but you also caused an uncomfortable rumbling in the community. You and Denver both talked of more important issues happening that prevented you from putting out the speech which you finally did (and thank you), but it was because there was a war and bullets flying around that makes your decision not to act even more irresponsible.

Lives could have been lost due to this debacle, and while I am not a citizen of Chicago, those who are look to you for protection and guidance. You failed them in this instance by your deliberate delay in action. A leader must be decisive, present, and prepared, a trifecta that you lacked with the setting up of Denver.

I do not challenge Denver as an auth. My gripe is not with him (though I did question one of his statements earlier.) I am certain you have valid reasons as to why he should take partial ownership in your city. I only point out the irresponsibility of your actions and hope that in the future, you'll not take your leadership and the protection of the people in your charge so trivially.
Report Post Tip
Nikki, I understand completely. You make a valid argument. I did not deliberately delay this announcement, nor were my intentions to cause mass confusion. Yes I have taken in all points made, and will not just thrown them away. Criticism, good or bad, can be useful to everyone, if we are willing to accept it.

ThomasRourke, Phantom-Ghost and I discussed the option of me purchasing a legitimate HQ in Chicago with his permission which he was able to do thanks to Hayley allowing him to make such decisions.

Well Hell. We can all auth members from other people's crews? Without even a nod towards the other leader? I'll have to scour Hypno's crew roster in my office later. God knows Detroit could use a few more bold suit wearing chaps and chapettes.
Report Post Tip
Marietta, Hayley and I have discussed this factor many times. If one requests an auth out of the other family, it is granted.

Normally, this would be a great point. However:

I know her roster well enough and have spoken with her on many occasions about Denver being allowed to set up. The fact of the matter is I already knew her answer.

"The Legitimacy of New Crews "

It occurred to me recently to ponder The Legitimacy of existing crews....
Report Post Tip
It seems that you may be onto something there, Fu-ManjuRourke. Quite a few people are wondering just what the hell is going on, and it just keeps getting better.

And by better, of course I mean worse and more worrisome.

I just wonder what kind of familial relations are going on when a crewleader is left looking outside his own family for a suitable auth. Would that be a insult by the crewleader telling his own family that they're not worthy, or is it a demerit against the crewleader that his own leadership hasn't inspired anyone to step up and prove themselves capable of the job?
Report Post Tip
It was my understanding that Hayley was not even online when Denver had set up his headquarters. Pardon me, but isn't it "unconventional" to auth someone AFTER they set up their HQ without permission? Isn't it traditional for war families to sell their HQs and rejoin their bosses?
Report Post Tip
Sayyid, you're operating under the assumption that tradition and values mean something in today's community, and from what I've personally witnessed just here in this debate is a lack of tradition, and some vertebral support.

Retroactive auths are the new black. Anything else is SO last season.
Report Post Tip
Way too many crews.The end.
Report Post Tip
If we don't have our traditions and values, then why do we even care about getting auth anymore? What's that other than another tradition and value of ours?
