The stock market crash and bad economic times had affected everyone. No one was left unscathed by the wave of instability that had washed over the states. Every large city and even small towns felt the pinch, and families found money and sometimes dinner hard to come by. The mob had also been hurt severely. Businesses could no longer afford to pay protection money, and with prohibition creating a veritable pain in the liquor trade's backside, members of La Cosa Nostra were forced to look to other means to sustain their wallets. The drug trade had never been popular in the old country, however in the States, it was quite the lucrative enterprise. But the new import regulations the two largest ports, New York and Los Angeles, had made trafficking in drugs for distribution a bit harder for the runners. They needed a new gateway to funnel in the drugs from the Caribbean and South America. Someplace close, someplace cheap, and someplace where import regulations were dismissed with a greased palm or a lined pocket. And so it came to be that the land of crooked politicians, unnavigable bayous and seafood gumbo transformed into the capital inlet and distribution center for the North American drug trade. New Orleans was no longer the quiet jewel of the south. Now she was the bustling epicenter of the mafia's lifeline. Money was the blood that pumped through the body of organized crime, and with New Orleans now providing the means, the soldiers would provide the way. Of course it meant that in New Orleans the prices of drugs were a bit more appealing, often able to be purchased lower than anywhere due to the lack of middleman, and sold for a higher profit since most of the drugs were funneled out, leaving demand a little bit higher. Even with all the vices of the south, they still needed their fix as well. And with one little fix, New Orleans suddenly moved up the ladder, no longer a sleepy city overlooked for the glitz of Las Vegas or the glamour of New York. |

Stretches and Yawns. Wow, how long have I been asleep! Listens to Nikki speak, and shakes his head. Two things. I'm really not that big! And I told you - don't refer to me as EASY in public. That's supposed to be our little secret. Geez. Hears the whisper from the crowd. What? She's referring to New Orleans? Oh! Hee. Nevermind. But I do have to say. I've long been excited to visit New Orleans. I've visited an establishment or two down there, and have to say, second to none. And no, I'm not talking about the establihsments of ill repute. Anymore. But frankly, I liked New Orleans being my secret. Now I have to share it with the world. |

Ah, I think I know the right man to do it, eh Sal? Get that whip a crackin' eh? And Brick, you should probably get back to bed. I think you woke from your beauty sleep a few hours early. |
