Lowering the amount of "not known" messages. Started by: RasAlGhul on Jun 11, '14 18:52
What I'm proposing here is quite simple...

For those who aren't tipped up and/or can't afford a CA, are you tired of seeing "So and So doesn't know you well enough to vouch for you"...EVERY FIVE MINUTES when you do your micro-drug deals? I know I most certainly am!

So, I'm hereby suggesting that the times between "not known" messages are greatly lengthened. At least for when it's the same unit you've not picked up yet. I could understand it happening more often if, say, you're on 20, have no Tips/no CA, get to 21 - get the message. Do a few more things, get the XP for 22, and see it again.

However, I've been seeing the message almost every 5 minutes for the past two days for the same damn unit now and frankly, it's irritating. In lieu of this idea though, I also have an alternative option.

Instead of lengthening the time frame between the messages, remove them entirely and replace it with something along the lines of...

"Jun 11, 00:00:00 - You now have the required experience to obtain more drugs, however you lack the clout. Perhaps you should try Tipping (with a link to the Tips page), or purchasing a Corrupt Agent?(with a link to the page to buy one).

Thoughts?

I am pretty sure when I went through this stage, it only popped up three or four times for that said unit, then I received no more until the next unit after said was available. Maybe the game knew not to piss me off.

Well, perhaps you got lucky or some shit Tepid. I've quite literally been seeing the message 6-8+ times an hour, for the same unit. :\

i think a personal would be fantastic idea something that only shows every 12 hours or even 8 hours maybe just often enough to remind you you have the next unit available but not enough to piss you off lol

Yeah because that's what this game needs...more code to hold people's hands through everything. God forbid a mechanic in the game would force a leader or a sponsor would have to teach a new player something. I know the standards for leadership have dropped to incredibly low levels but I think they should still have some iota of responsibility to guide their members in something.

If the message bothers you SO much that you just can't bear to look at it again then I'll give you a suggestion. Rather than wanting the game to change to suite your exact standards, next time the message pops up just put some masking tape over the section you don't want to see and every time the message comes up in the future the tape will keep you from the horror of seeing the words.

Ehhh, first off - the concept of getting a personal for it had absolutely nothing to do with "lightening the load" of a CL's work. Personally, I try to make sure every HQ I'm a part of has some sort of "school" to teach n00bs on how to Tip/do anything they'd want to learn how to.

Secondly, if you read the first bit of my suggestion, you'd have noticed that my first choice would simply be to lengthen the time between these messages.

Thirdly... Masking tape? Really? Do you know how awful that would be for a computer screen?

by that theory tardbucket the game is not meant to evolve...its not like it is asking for a hand holding session to limit a message if anything limiting a message could be done in 3/4 lines of code hell you could even make it a custom time with like 8 lines of code but that's not the point

Report Post Tip

It may not be your intention but that would be the unintended effect of putting in a message telling people what they have to do. It would allow the worthless sacks of shit that pass for leaders now to be that much more worthless and shit. Also you may not need to see the message repeatedly but a newer player who doesn't immediately know it's meaning might need it more often. Most of all it's such a self centered complaint I don't see any reason why the game would need to change for it.

Sorry, but I'm under the strong impression that if a user gets a message stating they don't understand...They would simply ask someone what it means?

I think that this is the better suggestion. I mean, lest face it, this change would be mostly for aesthetic reasons and  it has nothing to do with the coders spoon feeding us, tardbucket. Its not like we would benefit or not benefit vastly from the proposed change. I think this would all come down to how long it would take to code, if there is time to do it, and where it sits in the grand scheme of things "needing" to be coded in. It maybe the case of just adding a few lines, an easy but aesthetically pleasing change.

All in all, I don't think its a bad suggestion, especially the latter part.

Mr bucket, like you I hate the way in some situations the game spoon feeds us, ive always been against changes that take away the ability for the user to think for themselves however, I don't think that this is one of those. This is just purely for aesthetics, nothing more, especially not taking anything away from user interaction or  making us think for ourselves.

Mr. bucket is not quite wrong. in order to avoid changing the message for the more obvious, why not change it to say something to the tune of "You have the ability to obtain more drugs, but you need a little more clout before the dealer will sell you more. Talking to an FBN agent may help with this"  or some variation thereof.

I also agree that the time between getting whatever message needs to be leangthened, as i've experianced this in the past.

Knowing that it is in the best interest of the game to make money disappear or credits spent, maybe the idea IS precisely to annoy the fuck out of you enough to push you to either tip or buy a CA. I do wonder how many people this really afects.
