The Haps With Chicago Started by: Marietta on Feb 12, '09 16:42
The time had come. After much urging from her upper structure and after many hours of considerable thought, the blond woman clutched her handbag in the backseat of her black Ford reviewing her decision and her speech. From the front seat she heard the drone of Pedro and ThomasRourke discussing some sort of sport or another, but she allowed the sound to wash over her, in one ear and out the other. Suddenly the car jerked to a stop, pulling up outside the front steps of a well-furnished building that had belonged to the previous underworld occupants of Chicago. A podium had been erected upon the front steps, and a small crowd was slowly growing larger as more people trickled down the street. It was now or never. With a small glance to her Right Hand, Aurora, all four adults exited the vehicle and made their way over to the building.

As she made her way to the podium Marietta Rossi, Godfather of Detroit, felt her heart begin to hammer. She was not afraid of giving the speech she had prepared and thought of for ages, but rather at what this entire occasion meant. Though she was filled with joy and pride, there was a slight sadness ticking with each beat of her heart, knowing that her city and business was about to lose one of her most trusted of associates. Despite the feelings, however, she smiled at the crowd and looked across the gathered mobsters.

"Good afternoon," she addressed the expectant sea of people. "I'm sure you all know why we are here today, so I will skip all the pleasantries and skip straight to the subject at hand. As I've often been told I get too long-winded when delivering speeches, I'm sure most of you will appreciate that."

She paused for a momentary giggle from Aurora, knowing that the lady was only doing so out of pity for her terrible joke.

"Chicago, recently, has seen some bloodshed, a lot of tears, and several established families have fallen. In the city's history it has always been such a grand place for this Thing of Ours. The business in the city has always been booming, and has always seen it's fair share of high ranked Mafia bosses. To say that The Windy City is a place of success would be, as far as I am concerned, a very accurate statement to make."

"Yet this was not why, after the deaths of Phantom-Ghost, Denver and Phantom_BFN, I felt obliged to meet with Godfather JimmyTheLionHeart and to claim this fair city. I do not plan on moving to it, or doing anything with it for my own personal gain as many of you may believe."

"The reason I decided to claim Chicago was because I knew that it would need leadership. Hopefully that was fairly obvious to the rest of you as well. With many outcries from several other cities about the amount of new, bold Mafiosi in Detroit, I thought it would only be polite of me to send some of my own men over to fill those shoes. I know many of you may find this to be unfair, and unethical from how decisions were made in the past, but when several of the cities are unwilling to even auth a Captain into their own cities, for fear of diluting their family or separating them in any way, I found it would probably be much easier for us all if I took the bull by the horns and placed someone there myself. This way none of the other cities are losing any valuable members, nor are they forced to lose any, and I am spreading out the 'forest' of leaders within the Motor City."

"A reasonable, win-win situation, I'm sure you can all agree!"

A small murmur rose from the crowd. Perhaps many still did not think it was quite the 'win win' scenario. Despite the noise, however, the Godfather continued, smiling as she addressed the crowd.

"So whom to place there? The decision, while I made it fairly quickly within the past few days after taking Chicago, was not one I took lightly. I considered all options, made several pie charts and graphs that Aurora mocked endlessly, before finally arriving at my decision."

"The man I chose..."

Immediately a voice from the crowd gasped and called out, "It's a male? At least we know it's a male!" Frowning slightly back at the man and tilting her head, Marietta clicked at him with her tongue a bit.

"Considering I'm the only female Mob Boss in Detroit, that's not exactly the most astute observation."

The man fell silent and with one last shake of her head the woman continued, clearing her throat as she did so.

"The man I chose is... simply wonderful. He has faithfully served Detroit and my family for months now. Months that I will always fondly look back and on remember in my old age. He started as a young, idealistic gangster, and grew into a hardworking and loyal soldier for The Riot!. After my advancement to Godfather, he continued to serve Detroit as the Right Hand to my late associate Don Zoey. Needless to say, he had already quite the bit of experience underneath him when, after a heartbreaking incident, he rose to the occasion and set up in Zoey's stead once she passed on."

"Throughout his time with us I have seen him grow from a thug, to Wise Guy, to a hitter, to a Right Hand, to a Don and now, without a doubt, a wonderful, just and fair Boss. He has continued to grow rapidly in spirit and in his own business ventures, and I have to say that he deserves more than I can give him at this point in time. I am eagerly waiting to see what his family can do with their own territory. There was no second thought once I decided that the man who worked hard and deserves his own city is Guardian."
She pauses, allowing for a small, polite smattering of applause as she nods and smiles through watery eyes.

"I would like to take this time to specially thank Guardian. He was very much so a 'rock' to the higher ranked mobsters of Detroit in many times of need, and without his steadfast strength, faith in our business and never ending enthusiasm, I hardly think we would be where we are today in the Motor City. So thank you, Guardian, for that, and for much more (like keeping them filthy Rourkes in line)."

"At this moment I would also love to give a special thanks to some of Guardian's higher ranked family members, amazing men that I have grown fond of and have loved working with over these past few months. Thank you El_Nino, Silky-Slim, Sherminator and Stapled, for all your endless effort and selflessness in our venture to build this amazing city. There are absolutely no words that I can find to describe how much I appreciate everything you have done."

Faltering slightly, Marietta knew she had better wrap the speech up before her age and dramatics got the better of her and she began to cry. With one last look at the crowd she sighed softly, gripping the podium for strength.

"And with all that having been said, I would like to welcome these fine mobsters into the city of Chicago. Remember to build your city into one that you will be proud of for generations to come."

"Congratulations to Guardian and his Chasseurs. Be sure to keep Detroit forever in your hearts, as you all will be in ours. Do well, as I know you will."

Guardian, you are an inspiration to Rourkes everywhere about how to achieve excellent things. Seriously though, seeing you leave Detroit and strike off on your own is one of the saddest things I have had to endure. You have been with us for months, and have never been anything but a dedicated leader in the city of Detroit. To say you have earned this would be painfully understating the facts.

You came into our crew near the end of October along with your upper structure consisting of El_Nino and Sherminator (both who arrived a bit later, but still important to the point I will make). At the time all three of your family lines had tangled with Detroit in past wars, conflicts, street arguments, etc. However, you have each proved to be incredibly valuable assets to our city. Your loyalty to us has allowed each of us to reach our personal dreams... Marietta became a Godmother and restored order to the cities, Aurora, Rourkey, and myself all became Dons... Firsts for our familial lines. And although Guardian may be loathe to admit it, it has been his steady hand with his own crew and then later his captains that have helped restore respectability and pride in this life.

It is now our pleasure and privilege to see Guardian leave and become the leader to his own city, realizing his own dreams to which he has kept unspoken and sacrificed on behalf of the safety of Detroit, its citizens, and its many business ventures.

Every week, Marietta and myself watched as Guardian made decisions that showed his complete maturation as someone not only fit of heading a city, but also deserving. Over the last few weeks especially, I've watched Guardian transform himself from someone who had a hitter's mentality, to someone with a leader mentality. I have every faith that he will bring that with him to Chicago.

It is nice to see you give a chance to someone who you could have kept under you in Detroit Marietta.

It is also nice to see that it is Guardian who, from a outsiders view, has done an awful lot for you and Detroit itself. Everyone must leave the nest some day and it seems you gave Guardian his chance now. I wonder if he can seize it aswell as I and some others I have spoken to suspect. I suppose only time will tell.
