| The Misgivings of an RH | Started by: Dr_Ball on Feb 16, '09 15:48 |
Dr. Ball walks out on the street and starts handing out a transcript of a long dead RH's speech. Despite this speech being particularly old, I believe it has some value. As it is today, being the Right Hand of Godfather Jimmy, I should hope to command some kind of respect. In fact I should hope to be able to command about the same amount of respect as the Godfather himself in his absence. However, it seems that some of my fellow mafioso feel otherwise. This ends now. If you seek council from Godfather Jimmy, and he is not around, I will respond. This is the only response you will get. Being that Jimmy is the Godfather, he has better things to do than to babysit. If you feel I am not an adequate alternative you will be on your own and the repercussions of your actions will be on your own head. |

| Sayyid applauds. Well put. The Destra Capo (right hand) doesn't get to read the boss's mail to keep tabs on their social life. It's to take care of business. There's no reason why they should be cut out of the loop when something happens and the boss isn't around. | |

| The general concept and the way i see it is that the RHM is in charge when the boss is away. That is his job, that is what he is there for, and for that reason alone the RH shoud command the same respect as the boss himself. It should not matter if you are dealing with the CL or RH, respect levels should be the same and they should be treated with the same way. | |

Blah blah blah, what are you going to get out of talking about your power as a RHM? RHM should be this, should do that, should behave like this, should not be left out of that and the list continues. "You" as in a generalization of all those who plan on voicing on this matter. People will flock and agree "Oh wow! This is a great debate!" Hardly. For all disgruntled RHM out there, if you are feeling a little "out of the loop" remind those who work for you, the importance of your position. The way you do it is entirely up to you. You want to mass mail a few and send them flowers, if it works, then do so by all means. If some of you feel the need to kill of half your crew on the basis of disrespect, then do that if it works. Note, I am not suggesting that these methods work, so do not take them to heart. The last thing I need is one of you nuts messaging me saying "Fuck you! That advice sucked from the moment I considered HQ'ing that C for disrespect!" One more thing for you Mr. Ball, "If you feel I am not an adequate alternative you will be on your own and the repercussions of your actions will be on your own head." What do you mean by this exactly and which group was this actually marketed for? P.S Jimmy was a fucking awesome babysitter! |

| i agree that a RHM should recieve the same amount of respect as the boss themselves but the RHM should not expect respect because of rank or position, in my opinion, respect should be earnt, but having said that the crew members have to realise that, heaven forbid the boss is killed or leaves, the RHM will take their position therefore respect for the RHM will be for the good of the crew and the family. | |

I must say, in all my years of organised crime this is the first time I've heard the term "Destra Capo"! To address your point Dr_Ball, (Sir Jimmy isn't here, should I address you as Godfather Ball from here on out?) I can see where you are coming from but there are, of course, two sides to every coin. Obviously, you are the Underboss - the meaning of that is quite clear, when your leader isn't around, you are in charge. This applies undoubtedly in your own HQ and obviously in the city of Philadelphia given Jimmy's position. Whether this appointment should be applicable equally outside of the HQ as it is in is a continuing point of debate that I don't really want to debate at this moment. What I do want to comment on is that, although you are Jimmy's Right Hand, does that mean you command the respect of a Godfather? No, because you are not a Godfather. If you start saying that Right Hand Men deserve exactly the same respect as the Leader they follow; why not say that Hypno, Marietta's immediate figurehead, deserves the respect of a Godfather in her absence. And if Hypno's not around; why that respect will transfer to his captains? An extreme example, sure, but it demonstrates my point. You are judged on who you are, not who you are for; at least you should be. I agree that a Right Hand acts in the interests of his (her)Leader, but to suggest they are deserving of the same status and respect is folly; and merely dilutes the importance and prestige that come with the ultimate ranks. |

KingOfOnePercent said it best I think. So I have nothing further to add. Especially the following part. You are judged on who you are, not who you are for; at least you should be. I agree that a Right Hand acts in the interests of his (her)Leader, but to suggest they are deserving of the same status and respect is folly; and merely dilutes the importance and prestige that come with the ultimate ranks. |

Paul standing on the streets next to a fruit stand applauds Dr. Ball. I to believe in this. The underboss should be seen before the DON and he most be given respect due to his position. The Consigliere is the made mans voice when a wrong has been done or inquiries are needed on a particular thing. They are in those positions for a reason. Omerta mean keeping your mouth shut! When there is a issue no one out side your family should ever know. A true mafioso follows the chain of command. I believed that then and I believe it now. Paul turns towards the fruit stand and pays for his pears and apples |

Philly is not my home town, so I hope you forgive my insolence by giving my opinion on the matter. Although I do agree with the contents of the speech, I think the delivery method is futile. In this public speech you will only get the attention of those who already respect you, those who don't respect you already tuned you out as soon as they heard your voice, or they paid attention only to ridicule you behind your back. We are in a world where lessons must be taught, if somebody needs to learn them. If somebody disrespects you, then you slap them in the face, maybe even cap one or two in somebody's ass to make an example of the first fool to diss you. Maybe that will be the type of actions that would draw more respect than just standing and yelling for people to respect you. Whenever somebody tells me something I already know, or that I *should* know, then something went wrong before, at the time I first should've learned it and I didn't. |

I for one actually find it confusing for a Godfather to have a separate family from the Don's they Auth, Godfathers are the bosses of bosses and in my opinion they should be leading over their respective authorized crews and not having their own small group of close friends. The people the authorize should be the people in charge when they are not in town or on a vacation, not a right hand man to a Godfather/Mother. Of course Dr Ball commands respect, I just find it odd that a Godfather can even have a RHM, the Godfather/mother is the boss of bosses. They should be put on a pedestal above the population. I guess I just am confused as to how a Boss of Bosses can have their own crew when they are obviously in charge of all of the goings on in our world. YC leafs through some old books regarding the history of this thing of ours. |

YC turns around and addresses the crowd before heading on his way. What I am saying is that I don't believe that a Godfather/mother should be in charge of a small crew that almost seems a bit distant than the rest of the population by being allowed a small crew of trusted friends/family. Why are they not simply a GF/GM in charge of a family that holds Don's who control their crews with guidance from the Boss of Bosses? |

Gets out of his black Roles and walks up to address the crowd. Dr_Ball, I understand where you are coming from, but sometimes direct contact about business is needed with someone as important as Godfather Jimmy. For a short time, yes. An RHM can step in for their Boss when the leader cannot attend to matters. But, this never works for the long run. If I had a gravely serious matter to discuss with Philadelphia, I would like to speak directly with Godfather Jimmy. You might be his RHM, but you are not the man in the bold suit. Some matters must be handled directly by him and no one else. I do not believe that it is a thing of respect, but more of "going straight to the source". I mean no disrespect by this, only my opinion. |

I think this speech was more voiced for those who are not a leader. Lately I have had everyone ranging from gangsters to consigs messaging me with problems. Most of the time when My rhm has tried to help he has been shrugged off by these people who are not of rhm or Cl position. I understand that certain situations require a Crewleader or rhm to approach me. I see this as only reasonable. On the other hand I have complete strangers approaching me with problems not even related to my family, so I have asked my rhm to sort through my mail and send me only the things of utmost importance. |

I think the key then to sorting this issue out is for your RH to forward any problems that are not of your family back to the said members family. Either CL, RH or LH. Then the problem will be solved. |

I eagerly await the reappearance of Dr_Ball to see how he addresses the questions posed to him by those who have chosen to question his speech. After all, a speech on the streets should never be concluded the moment he stops speaking, and if that's the case then I suspect that we will have a few less wanderers on our streets making what would seem to have become pointless contributions. You may be a busy man Dr Ball, but you were clearly not too busy to address what you see as a problem by making a public speech. I find it hard to believe that you are hence too flooded with tasks to address those who address you, namely the RH of the Don of Chicago. Since the Don is currently sleeping, does that not make him the Don of Chicago in your eyes? And in that case, are you going to just ignore what we have termed the Don of Chicago? I'm happy to say that since the "baton of power", to sum up what you say, has passed to me simply because I'm the only member of DiggerRourke's crew online, hence making me in charge of Digger's entire family. Anyone spot any flaws with this? My point exactly. |

| well not exactly, as he said the RH and LH men became incharge if the CL was offline, that does not apply to people who are just members of a crew. That is why RH and LH's are appointed in a family =.. to help the CL run the family and they are to be givin the same amount of respect as your CL would when he is offline. It doesnt apply to regular members like us at all :P | |

| This is simple, kids. The good Doctor and the right hands get to read the mail for a reason. It's 'cause the leader trusts them, see? And if the leader trusts them, you should trust them. Their response is as good as the leader's. You should be grateful they even decided to respond! Kids today. | |
