| Well, Thomas, you are certainly being very generous towards those individuals by casting the blame for their failed attacks on their lack of patience, and not on their mental incompetency. Are you running for public office or something? | |

| Ah, right. That's what happens when I use selective hearing. Good to see that you are telling it like it is. | |

I think, ultimately, this one falls into the laps of the gods. Of course, in an ideal world, crew leaders would be more meticulous in who they promoted and ensuring the rank had actually been earned. However, it just won't happen. I'm not saying there aren't CLs who consider these things, but for the most part, the advantages of having a family full of high rankers are too much for the CL not to promote. It's completely understandable. What it has done though, has completely devalued any sense of achievement that you gain from reaching the higher echelons in this thing of ours. This is a big problem. People don't really care these days about getting made, they care more about getting to the rank immediately below their boss. At that point, satisfaction isn't necessarily achieved. Instead, they eagerly await their leader's next promo so they can get back on the case pronto. As others have said, they generally don't have to show any kind of balance to get there, if they can jail, they can have it. I'm on the side of the fence that feels it should probably take longer to rank than it does, but again, you can't blame people for using what is available to them. If that means jailbreaking all day, so be it. You can either adapt and keep up, or go about it in your own fashion without worrying about it. Marietta has shown as much. There were a lot of complaints about it at the time, and there are a lot of people who will hate me saying it given that they have an aversion to the group that imposed it on us all, but the last time I can recall people actually having to make at least some effort to get made (outwith the odd family, who break the mould and have standards for Made Men) was when the referral system was in place. Regardless of the ins and outs of the system's merits/implemenation, the fact was that people actually had to make some effort to get their button. It takes more than a thousand jails to get people to vouch for you when their life or rank is at stake. I'm not saying that is the answer, simply that people had to work for Made. Again, however, I can only see any resolution coming from the gods themselves. Minimum rank times seem to be the favoured way, but I'm not even sure if that method in itself is fitting. What relevance does the number of days since you arrive on these shores have? It should be based on experience, but not experience in one area (ie, jails). Perhaps ranking should be limited to those who are well-rounded? Given that city hall keep tabs on what we're up to anyway (achievements), why not use that for promotion eligibility. Yes, you might have a thousand jails, but whilst you have only done 150 petties and 50 drug runs, you are going nowhere in this world. Extending this to speech count (posts) is not really feasible given that it would mean the gods would have to monitor speeches much more closely and filter out the crap. At least with trigger levels on all mafia-related crimes, there's a bit more to it than jailing. If such a system is in place already, then the balance needs addressed. |

| I should've said, it all seems a bit like shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted, given that we have so many high rankers these days, but in time it'll right itself. Doing nothing won't help either. If indeed the gods do agree that things are a touch silly these days. | |

To me, the scariest thing is how our lives have been devaluated so drasticly. One of the things that keeps our families steady and on target is FEAR. Fear of your crew leader thinking you are a danger to them, Fear of the cops putting you away for life. Fear of disrespecting something and pissing them off enough so that they get rid of you. Fear of being struck down by the gods due to being impious. In short. Fear of loosing everything that you spent your long life working towards Months of work... lost Yet today, you can find a family that was among the elite of Ours, and the next day gone, and wait, yes, a week later back among the elite. What restraints do they have to follow our rules, limit their risks when they can think "oh, no problem, Jr will take over my work in just a few days". QUICK RANKING IS A SICKNESS TO THIS THING OF OURS AND ROT IN THE FOUNDATIONS OF EVERYTHING WE STAND FOR. |

To make it very brief I guess: 1. The CLs have the authority to Rank their members if They think these members deserves to get Ranked, I think these members have to prove it in the City Hall. 2. The gods allowed Crackdowns but there must be a limit for everything I think that's why They are holding those who use them most. 3. Crackdowns aren't that bad, But using them a lot is not good. 4. Well It's up to the CLs anyway but there is some people who get ranked and they don't deserve it. |

After listening for a while bboy clears his throat and begun to speak and share whats on his mind. My grandmother used to tell me this,"A horseman's whip could only hit as far as it could reach." If a CL decides to promote his crews on a daily basis for what ever reasons he or she may think of then it would be their prerogative. After all "IT IS" their family. As long as whatever they are doing within their family does not affect other families, then I don't see anything wrong about that. For in the end they will be responsible for all the actions that they made. But again this is but my humble opinion.Others may think wiser though. |

Am I not right in saying that it's not only the currency that is held in an "offshore" bank account (OOC: Real money to buy crackdowns), but the currency in this world can also be used to bribe the police? So I fail to see why it is seen as a playing field that's not level, considering that you can gain the cash to bribe the police based on your work in the Mafia, doing drug runs and such. Just throwing that out there. As it is, of course it's the crewleader's job to promote so why should those who work harder be held back by limitations? I hate to point the finger, but in my youthful opinion, it is the crewleaders who have forced the gods to act and re-instate these limitations. Not to mention the veterans who are so naive as to think that this feature shouldn't be used to the extent that it is. If it's there, then should we not use it just because a few people pride themselves on being so old-school that they feel jailbreaking is taboo?? Jailbreaking in moderation, which is what the narrow minded minority are calling for, can be related to the warnings of drinking alcohol in moderation. I'd like to point out that the drinking in moderation warning is not a law, it's advice. Advice that doesn't have to be, and often isn't, followed. |

~ Nods his head in agreement with bboy and calmly replies ~ Noone really likes to be told how to run their own business or crew. There is a reason that the CL is a CL. The CL should be the one making the call on who to rank, since the CL knows his/her own members the best. Sure you could argue that the newly ranked member might not be as good a Sharp shooter as his older comrades and he also might not be the best drug runner, but the CL might see in him other qualties such as good character, determination and loyalty ...which therefore earned him the CL's trust. (and I honestly dont think non-family members can see all these traits) As long as it does not affect the other families, then I see no big problem. This is just my humble and honest opinion :) |

Every time I see a long list of active users and people in the last line are LHM or RHM it makes me cringe and wonder. It is obvious to me that they are inheriting their deceased parent's position, but I'm not sure that it is totally fair. Maybe that new player should get the highest position available once everybody moves up one tier because of that previously mentioned deceased parent. As far as ranking goes, I thought there was a list of requirements that when ALL criteria met then the promotion happened.mIf jailing is being abused, perhaps it's because that particular activity gives too much experience. Level that activity with the rest and you won't have it abused. HOWEVER, my personal opinion is that it's ok the way it is: like somebody said, it sustains the Gods' way of life, and through them OURS. As far as a minimum 3-to-5-day waiting period, I think 3 is ok, but any more is unnecessarily impeding progress. What is a "day" after all in this world? Some people are "awake" (online) 2 or 3 hours a day and sleep the rest. What if I put in 10 hours on a single day because it's my alter ego's day off at work? That should count as 3 or 4 days of that other player that gets online for a few hours. It's all about what was done in those hours, and that's why I'm confused about some points made. I thought it all came down to Experience Points. I thought that nobody could rank unless a certain amount of Experience Points were earned. So if those points are earned, what are we really discussing here? Please take these comments considering the source: an orphan. I have no parents, so I am the first of my bloodline here. |

Personally I am a believe in the crewleader should judge when someone is ready for promotion, i have watched various people shoot up the ranks fairly quickly but still not be fully understanding in the ways of our society. Long ago in a world thankfully far away values were ingrained in you as you ranked on that long long walk to made(when it actually meant something as wasnt many of them). Now we live in a world where is rank and hope for survival which the bosses pocket short of a jailbreak ranker. I think at the end of the day is not the crackdowns that are back supplementing ranking with jail was always a way in the past, people would come in and use it at the same time with jail parties and izzy, pallida and others in jail making it more entertaining. Now it is a race to empty jail and where someone was once an afternoon of fun, is now a new crackdown every 5 minutes. I think the truth is whether leaders rank someone on jailbreaks or hard work, you never know what someone wil do. You also dont know if outside the family what they do for the family e.g. mentoring, whacking, big earner but the truth is it is a minority of people above made man that seem to go nuts and sometimes i think is down to the boredom that comes with time sitting with maybe not doing enough with the family whether interaction or lack of ambition. Unfortately for some some with rank comes responsibility and to some that takes out the fun of this thing, others it makes them more then what they ever thought they could be. You never know if your promoting the wrong person, as even your most trusted advisor and highest ranks who have served you long and hard can make that one mistake that costs the their lives. |
