Uncertain return Started by: TipperFour on Feb 16, '09 21:06
Just having returned to this world, Tipper looks around with a joyful yet skeptical marvel at what has become of a world that she knew so well. Things look great around here, the rats seem to be at bay, even the dead bodies don't seem to smell as bad. Just when Tipper thinks returning was a good choice Metal32 walks up and says:

"join diggerrourke" She replies in what may be a rude fashion, but a goomba should not be recruiting random civilians fresh off the boat. If he does do so he should at least be able to answer simple questions about his family, not just respond, "I thought it would be a good idea". I might be out of line speaking like this as a civilian, but I hope people have more respect in their families and this thing of ours than to be complete spam happy, trigger happy worms.

Please tell me this was a fluke or is joining a family truly that easy now. Then again this new world does seem to have a lot of them.
Report Post Tip
well it seems to be the same to join a family you dont use one liners and that but Captains tend to work with the newbies to help them improve there asking and respect skills :)
Report Post Tip
No that should have never been said, a goomba should never be recruiting especially in that fashion...
Report Post Tip
It is not down to a Goomba to go out and randomly start one-liner recruiting. He may feel he is helping out the family but it is quite embarassing actually.
Report Post Tip
Actually, some Goomba's may actually know what they're doing. Say someone from a line that knows what they're doing is given a job directly by his boss to go and recruit, then obviously they would know what they're doing. I am sorry for your encounter Tipper, you should not have been contacted by this person.
Report Post Tip
It is obvious that this particular Goomba wasn't tasked to go out and recruit, purely because of his abysmal effort he put into it. But yes, if it came from higher up, it does not matter what rank someone is to do any job.
Report Post Tip
That is mostly what i was getting at if your family has a way about recruiting and goombas are involved that is one thing, but when i ask questions about the boss I may be dedicating my life to and cant get answers, flags are raised.
Report Post Tip
Wow........ What a weak effort, recruiting takes finnese and not just commanding someone to join. Dumb effort!
Report Post Tip
I'd just like to point out on behalf of digger and his family that I am, and should be, the only person other than Digger, and his right and left hand women to be recruiting. Please ignore all other mails regarding joining us unless they come from one of us.

As to those in the family lead by Digger, please do not talk to people about joining unless you have been instructed to do so.
Report Post Tip
As sad as the way he tried to recruit you was, Did you ever stop to think that maybe he had your best interest at heart? I understand that maybe he may not have been able to respond to the questions you had, but this should have been something you talked to him then his leader about. The fact he took the time to even message you means he has character. He was looking at you fresh off the boat and trying to offer you a chance to join his family therefore offering you protection and such.

It might not have been the best approach but neither is your speech here in the streets. Did his name have to be mentioned? Where you looking to have him ridiculed? Better yet where you looking to make Diggers family look bad?

I for one will not look down upon this member as he stepped out of his daily routine in hopes of helping you.
Report Post Tip
I had though all of those things out. You see this is my stance. I might be a fresh face off the boat, but familiar faces leave us just as often as new faces join. You never know who you are approaching, or what they know. Yes he took time from his day to give me advice, I did in fact try to hear him out, he gave me no feed back. I then asked him to do some homework and get back to me. He still did nothing, As a civilian I should not be putting a Boss' name in the streets this is true, I have apologized and hope that it is accepted. I almost took the matter to his family, however I realize that I have nothing to lose either way. If I take it to the boss he gets whatever is decided upon. Here he learns a little more. I took everything i said into great consideration and stand by my actions.

This guy reminds me of myself.

Louis chuckled to himself and offered the young man his hand, dropping his cigarette to the ground as he did

"We should talk, my friend..."

Tipper look at my crew, i have 24 members. Almost a full crew. What that means is im to the point where i dont have to pro-actively recruit anymore. Did i when i had a 3 man crew? absolutely. But even at that point i never went to someone and said blatantly that hey "join my crew". You can see my response in one of the Gato's RHM's street threads about what my policy about recruiting was and what metal exuberated is completely contradictory to my philosophy (http://mafiareturns.com/comm/thread/41569/page1).

These days I get more messages about joining my family in a day then i have space to accommodate at this point, does that mean that what metal did can be shrugged off? Absolutely not. What he did was his own perogitive, to come to the streets and say that's the policy of my crew, is however just as condescending as what metal did so the next time you have a problem with a crew try consulting with their leader(s) first.

Now that im here and since im not a proponent of making empty street appearances, let me set something else straight. Why is a person like metal on my crew? Well am i CL? absolutely. But understand that i am a captain. Its my job to train the new comers about the ins and outs of the game. If i don't do it one of two things happen, they will either end up dead (as some the posters here should be) or will be bored and gone in a week. So when someone does send me a one liner, i send a reply back and try to see what they have to offer, the kind of capacity they have and drive for learning a new trade (MR). Is metal a finished product? by no means as evidenced here, does he deserve to get disciplined for this breach, that's a in house matter just as this conversation should have been!

Jimmy thanks for bringing some coherent light to this matter, many Thanks good sir!
Report Post Tip
I have got to agree with Jimmy and Digger, Well i dont HAVE to be i feel i have to comment on such a subject. I would like to think im a helpful guy who shows people the same respect they have shown me and the same compassion they have shown me and put the things iv learned in motion. With all this said now to the point...

When i took my first step on these shores i felt a little out of my depth. i would of been very happy for someone to grab my hand and show me the way of this thing of ours. Being a new guy in town is very tough, you would be right not to expect any help, But if help does come and someone will take the time to offer you their services its a great relief and a great step to take. in the first 48 its crucial to get yourself protection and a family as we all know as people of experience, but what about people that dont?

I can see it wasnt a very tactful way of doing things, but one line of helpfulness can help a guy/gal along way... Just all be it a bit more than "join my crew" Im all for approaching new blood, and i will carry on trying to help them take there first steps and support them through their journey.
Report Post Tip
in my opinion a goomba shouldn't have the authority to recruit new blood especially using one liners, i would hope one liner recruiting would be a thing of the past and that crews should respect their families by recruiting carefully, ensuring that recruits will be loyal and profitable

although saying this, i do agree with SirSammyRourke that even though the rank of goomba is historically a far inexperienced rank to start recruiting, a goomba in some circumstances will know what they are doing, also their position within the family can determine whether they recruit new blood, for example if they are the RHM or LHM

i don't have a problem with a goomba recruiting within a family as long as they know what they are doing and it is at the descresion of the crew boss, the only conflict i have is the method of using one liners as opposed to a more extensive method
Report Post Tip
Vincent, I think this has already been covered in previous posts. In this instance, the Goomba in question was not authorised to make any approaches on behalf of his CL.

He was merely it seems trying to show some initiative and help a newcomer out. I think it is now clear to him that this method was perhaps not the best choice. Going forward, I would be surprised to see him make the same error in judgment again. His actions, were in my eyes inappropriate, but his intentions were good. I would hope that his enthusiasm for helping can be turned into something useful in the coming weeks/months.

Bringing his name to the streets and trying to publicly shame both he and his family was a greater sin, epsecially for someone who has traversed these streets before. In saying that, LouisGato, a captain within Detroit has now taken this person under his wing, and again, will try guiding her. I wish both captains all the best in their endeavors and am sure we won't see these same mistakes come to light from these newly initiated hoods again.
Report Post Tip
i agree, the enthusiasm of the goomba in question is a good thing and can be used in the future for the good of the family, good point mac, it was wrong for this to be posted as a thread in the streets and this was just as disrespectful to the family as the goomba's actions, perhaps even more, but as you say she is now under louisGato's wing and i have complete confidence that it will never happen again
Report Post Tip
oh and ye that goomba shouldnt have said what they said i forgot to add that the other day lmao im dumb somtimes :)
Report Post Tip
Tipper, firstly, joining a family should not be difficult unless your are a dead retard and have no form or skill in simple communication or survival to want to live through the first 48 hours.

Now as for the random spam you have suggested coming from this Goomba, do you not think it was a bit harsh to publicly attempt to bash a crew by this one incident? I think the point of this little speech was because you had nothing else better to do with your time. Seems there are too many of you so sensitive about the tiniest of things.

Your response should have been, "Thank you, I will consider it" or "No thanks, I would prefer to look around before making my decision" but no, you opted to bring another crew and its leaders name into the streets over something like this.

As for having respect in ones family that you so boldly mentioned, how do you think this would reflect on your family? If this post was made before you joined one, did you think someone would have sat there thinking to himself, "I think this person is on to something! A great addition for any crew!"? I think not. I should hope not.

Maybe some have, maybe some still do. All I am saying is, is that there are many other options to consider before dealing with a particular situation whether it be an invite advertisement or pointing fingers at others so openly.
Report Post Tip
I don't think his intentions were all that good. They were not evil, but they were selfish. He is merely trying to buff up the numbers of his crew but with no regards to the quality of the members he may be recruiting.

I must admit, though, that I was sympathizing with the opening post until much more experienced players like JimmyTheLionHeart and DiggerRourke help me see a bigger picture.
