Change the Sponsor/Associate Dynamic Started by: Vaelin_Al_Sorna on Jul 12, '14 21:49
As things stand now, sponsors invite associates into a crew and that is about all they do. Some take time to teach associates, others just invite them then never bother with them again. I'd like to see a change created to improve this situation.

My suggestion is simple, but a real change from what we are all used to. Instead of an associate receiving automatic promotions up to wiseguy, I propose the Sponsor be responsible for granting each promotion from Thug to Wiseguy. This creates a dynamic where the Sponsor/Associate relationship has to become more important than what it is now. I'm not blaming the game, this is a player issue at this point, but I think my suggestion would drastically improve it.

With the sponsor being responsible for the low level promotions, he/she has the responsibility of promoting the associate when they feel they're ready for the next rank, and ultimately being able to say with confidence if an associate is ready to receive their button. More player interaction with less automatic promotion can't be a bad thing from my point of view.

Maybe with this system we could bring back the Sponsor receiving a small percentage of the associates crimes, drug runs, ect.

Thoughts, suggestions, they're all welcome!

I don't really like this idea. I never liked when my sponsor got my tax money, I certainly don't like them being able to control any of my promotions. I work for my leader not for someone that works for them. Maybe that is unrealistic but it is how I feel on it.

I would like to see that sponsors can no longer be under Made Men once again. I just shake my head when I see Wise Guys or younger sponsoring. Makes me think their leaders are just working on disregarding the value of Made Man+.

I think its a great idea, I actually think it gives more back to the rank of Made man as people are not forced to give this rank to people just so there family can grow. I believe that Made man can now be biased more off what it should be and not just being stuck at 25 members till someone truly deserves the rank. Gives families a better chance to grow, and new people a better chance to go where they want without waiting on a made+ person to be around.

I disagree with you Broly. I get why it came about but if a CL has a bunch of people that could sponsor (Made Man+) then they are just being lazy with their training. Giving it to under Made Men should be a desperate measure not one flaunted because they cant be bothered to train their higher ranks to properly recruit/sponsor.

Report Post Tip

Still, if you only have a few Made men they cant be on around the clock.

And it might not have anything to do with training, it might just have to do with lack of people being active in general.

I think the pro's out weigh the cons, hence why im glad with the change and hope it stays.

Tais, if you are an associate for someone you are working for them and they are working for the CL. It's called chain of command. I agree with you though on Wise Guys and Earners being able to have associates. I think it should go back to Made Man plus.

Vaelin_Al_Sorna, I mostly like this idea. I think that some of the more lower ranks should still be given automatically, but Earner and Wise Guy given to the associate by their sponsor. Thug is set up where it makes sense that it's an auto promotion. One becomes thug as soon as they enter a family or after 12 hours of being "born". It would be a pain in the butt to go in and promote your new recruit to thug as soon as they enter in the family and you'd have to do that if it wasn't auto because they wouldn't be a civilian any more.

Gangster and Goomba are are two days after making a character. They are small ranks that I feel just don't need to be given a greater value by having someone give the promotion vs. auto. Earner is 5 days. That's a good amount of time to get to know an associate and decide if they deserve to be higher than a Goomba. Then, 8 days, Wise Guy. One step away from Made Man. I believe Earner and Wise Guy are important enough ranks to be given by a sponsor, but Gangster and Goomba aren't. Specially if that sponsor is juggling two or more new associates. Five days goes by pretty quickly.

Not true. Much like a manager is often in charge of several supervisors, a CL has put trust in several sponsors and expects them to teach the "new" kid the way of things. In that respect, the sponsor is your boss.

I don't think they should be paid for it though...

How ever, I like the idea of both the sponsor and the cl being able to give the wise guy rank... This might allow a sponsor to say "hey, vouching for this guy". The rest are fine as is, in my opinion.

The minor ranks don't really require much skill and responsibility on the part of the player.
Report Post Tip
Indeed, which is why I suggested having it be wise guy only.
Report Post Tip
Id be ok with it coming to play from Goomba up. It about creating more user interaction and less automated features. That is what I'm really trying to accomplish.
Report Post Tip
Sadly, it's just another button push. Ppl wouldn't pay attention to the noobs even if they had it,

If it's associate sponsor interaction you want, then you have to choose active sponsors who'll actually work with ppl, instead of giving everyone the sponsor ability.

Exactly I agree with you Haven

Even if some adjustments are done, I'd like to see something come of this suggestion.
