I've always liked the idea of businesses actually netting you a profit. However, with roleplaying you can't exactly set the price of a martini for $2,000. To get around this and also add a little to the authenticity of the era, some businesses can elect to have a fee for someone to "enter" or view the thread. The Business owner would select the fee per person, or per rank. A gangster pays less than an earner etc. Now, you wouldn't pay per view. Instead you would pay per visit of that city. Since the lay overs in each city are incredible long you could RP out several conversations and look through the whole history of the business. This would also further entice leaders to have thriving businesses as the income from visitors would be taxed. I think some of the downsides such as people electing not to pay at all and skip RPing in that setting would only be seen if the fee was extremely high. There could be a possibility of "sneaking in". If you were caught maybe the owner or his associates would try and pickpocketing the change from you until it equaled the cost of entry. Overall, I think this would be a good dynamic though, I'm unsure how hard it would be to implement and if it is too difficult I do not blame you for not trying it. | I agree with the fact that businesses should actually bring players income. But I think the amount of income should be determined by the effort pug into the writing of the business. | |

I quite like the entry fee suggestion - it could appear quite exciting, say - to enter a prestigious bar for $50,000, over a burger bar for $10 (to use an example). Maybe, the fee you are able to charge is dependent on the owners rank, with the ability to charge more the higher rank you are - rather than charging each rank individually as they enter (which may get complicated). As always, there needs to be a balance that does not deter people from posting. It could be challenging to iron out the idea, as considerations need to be made for what happens when the business owner is killed. |

Sounds very similar to this http://mafiareturns.com/comm/thread/417326#7578786 I would really like to be able to pay in order to enter or post in a business but business owners should also have to pay for setting up a business as well in order to get all the proper "permits". |
