Alaric lit a cigarette and stepped out of his car, flicking the burning match toward the man holding the door for him. The driver was always making him late for his appointments. He looked again at his pocket watch and frowned.
I hope you don't think I was kidding when I said to get me here by three o'clock.
He didn't wait for a response, but instead stormed off toward the interior the building that was his destination--a grand hotel that overlooked Lake Michigan. He waved aside the clerk that insisted on greeting him in a sing-song manner and continued toward the back and paused outside the entrance to a large ballroom, from which much music and laughter could be heard. He extinguished his cigarette, smoothed his tuxedo, and checked his appearance in the gold-framed mirror to his right. Immaculate, he thought, and smiled.
He entered the room and wasted no time in getting everyone's attention, grabbing a glass from a passing waiter and rhythmically clinking a knife against it.
Ladies and gentlemen, if I could have your attention please.
He waited for silence.
Where is El_Nino?
The people collectively looked around until the crowd parted to make way for the mob boss. Alaric waited until he was joined by the man before continuing.
Many of you may ask why I assembled you here this afternoon. While I'm offended that I cannot invite some of my friends together for champagne simply to celebrate our fortunate lives, I do have some important news.
As you are undoubtedly aware, El_Nino inhereted Guardian's family when he became the Godfather of Chicago several nights ago. He has worked tirelessly to mold the crew into a family of his own--The Outhere Brothers. Now, it is my distinct honor to announce that my boss and dear friend, El_Nino, has achieved the rank of Don. Congratulations, boss.
