Chance Airport Meeting (RP) Started by: Brick_Pollitt on Feb 25, '09 09:47
Brick rushed through the glass doors of the airport, looked at his watch one more time, cursed himself, and ran toward the ticket counter.

Damn, I'm late. I can't miss this flight. Roundtrip to Chicago please. Yes, yes, the flight that leaves in 16 minutes. I understand I'm late. Thank yo...yes, I'm returning tonight.

He argued briefly with time he didn't have, but finally got his ticket, and pushed through the crowd to make his way toward the gate. He wasn't expecting what would occur that day. He had just planned a quick trip to Chicago. The people he had running his bar weren't performing, and he was going to fire them, or to kill them, depending on the condition of the bar when he got there.

He took a deep great and took a seat near the gate. A usual seat for Brick, his back to the wall, and the ability to see everybody near him. He had to laugh when he looked up at the sign that said his flight had been delayed an hour. Why had that ticket idiot yelled at him if he knew the flight was delayed. Ah, how much fun Brick had at the airport.

He looked at his watch one more time, and opened up the newspaper he'd brought with him, one eye on the paper, one eye on the crowd. He waited.

Meanwhile back at the bar, the servants and bartender where hard at work. They where cleaning up the place after last nights business and where paying extra attention to make it as clean as possible. After all they knew the boss only came to visit for one thing. It had only been 5 months since Brick_Pollitt had last come down to visit and that's when charlie the regular bartender went missing. They knew it was only a matter of time until he arrived so they continues there cleaning efforts

Annie waited with waining patience as other passengers on the plane slowly filed down the steps and onto the tarmac walkway. It was a small jet with only 20 or so passengers, half of which were the men hired to accompany Annie to and from her homes in the U.S. and Sicily. This trip had been a very unwelcome annoyance to her. She had tried to take every precaution to make sure the business could be run without her presence required, but she was beginning to lose faith in those she'd left in charge. She had been in Sicily for a week, and how she would explain that away to her friends- much less Sal- had yet to come to her. Finally, she made her way down the gangplank stairs, surrounded by 10 large men, including Remy, in dark suits, and into the airport terminal. Once they were through the gate and out to the street, a conspicuous parade of five cars would escort her from the airport. One car would peel off at a time, until they reached the Bed & Breakfast in only one car containing herself and Remy. That was much less conspicuous, and would likely raise less suspicion among her friends and colleagues.

"Miss Falco, there seems to be a problem with the baggage. The gate attendant has asked that you remain here until the situation is resolved."

Glaring at the bodyguard that had just delivered that news, Annie sighed audibly and threw her hands in the air. She tore into him in a rapid Italian tongue- knowing full well that the problem wasn't his fault- nonetheless very upset by the delay. She was already extremely upset about having to go to Sicily in the first place. The news she got there was disconcerting and cause for some concern about her safety; all adding up to a giant headache. All Annie wanted to do was relax by the ocean at the Bed & Breakfast and regroup.

Having heard the voice he recognized but wasn't expecting, Brick looked up from his newspaper, and now both eyes were focused on the scene. In the distance he saw a friend of his, though she was somewhat hidden by a large group of men that appeared to be protecting her from something or other. Brick moved from side to side in order to get a better look at his friend, and at the situation.

That is...it's Annie. I wonder what she's doing here. And who are all those people she has with her?

Brick thought it outloud as he lifted himself from his seat. He folded the newspaper and slid it under his arm and began to make his way over to where Annie was standing. Her voice was much more animated than he'd heard her in the past. And she was apeaking Italian. Brick briefly looked to the tarmack to see a small plain, then back to Annie. Unaware of what he was getting himself involved in, but extremely curious about his friend's activities, he continued to approach, by this point calling her name.

Annie..Annie. It's me, Brick.

He waved in her direction and continued his approach.

Hearing Brick's voice, Annie suddenly stopped her ranting- much to her guards relief. Her heart skipped a beat or three and she froze in place. What in the world was she going to say? The guards all turned toward Brick and took a collective step in, attempting to tighten around Annie. She rolled her eyes and pushed out from between them.

Dios mio, it is my friend. Move out of my way...

Remy chuckled a bit at Annie's frustration. He knew she was just tired, and that Brick was no direct threat to her- unless he asked too many questions. He kept himself a step or two behind her. Annie, meanwhile, approached Brick and smiled, greeting him with a kiss on both cheeks.

Brick, so good to see you! I didn't expect you to be traveling so soon after yesterday's parties. I am so sorry I missed it all. I had...uh...a funeral to go to...in Sicily.

Brick looked confused, but happy nonetheless to see his friend. After the embrace, he took a step back and looked at his surroundings one more time. The men surrounding Annie were slightly intimidating, and for the life of him he couldn't understand how a bar owner would need such an entourage. It wasn't in his nature to let it go, so he engaged.

A funeral? I'm sorry to hear that. And are all these gentlemen with you?

Remy he recognized from Annie's place in Philadelphia. The others, he did not. And he didn't like what he saw. He worried that his friend was in danger. And wouldn't let it go.

She spoke so quickly, she barely knew what she was saying, much less whether he'd buy it. Even worse, she hated lying to her friend- but certain things needed to be kept in dark places.

Oh, you know Sicily- such an unstable government, and unstable citizens. One isn't always protected for being a "Friend of the Friends" you know. These gentlemen were hired by my family to accompany me to and from the wedding, and then be on their way.

Glancing around them, she silently wished the big goons would disappear, but they were contracted to stay with her for the duration. She smiled sheepishly and tossed her hair over her shoulder.

Brick raised an eyebrow at what appeared to be a slip. She had originally said she was going to a funeral, but upon further questioning, she changed her story. While it was said quickly, it didn't slip past Brick and he called her on it.

Wedding? I thought you said you were at a funeral? What's going on Annie? Is everything okay?

HE looked again at the thugs who were hired to protect her, and the looks on their faces told Brick that perhaps he was reaching a sensitive subject. But Brick's friends were his weakness. He was exceedingly loyal, sometimes to a fault. So he wasn't swayed by the looks and intimitation that was obviously directed at him.

Is there anything I can do to help? Are you somehow in danger?

She scolded herself for making such a mistake covering her tracks. She glanced at the men around her, the man at the gate trying to straighten out her baggage situation, and then back at Brick. Whether it was her paranoia or not, Annie suddenly felt like someone might be trying to stall her for a reason, and Brick was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Quickly, she grabbed Brick's hand and started barking orders at one of the men in Italian. They engulfed Annie and Brick and the group started walking toward a smoking lounge on the other side of the terminal. A few travelers inside saw what was coming and quickly got out. Remy, Annie, and Brick entered the room, and the rest of the men stood guard outside the door. As soon as the doors closed, Annie turned to Brick.

Look, I'm sorry for lying to you, Brick. Yes, I am in danger, but that has been a fact of my life since I was 20 years old. I was in Sicily taking care of some things for my business. You see, I came to America to get away from the old country- it was something of a quick escape. I had to let things cool down. I was getting too close to being identified.

Annie knew that her words were making little to no sense to Brick. After a long, hesitant pause, she decided that it was time to confide in her friend. Besides, he may be just the gateway she needed to get to Sal.

Brick, have you heard of the Hawk?
