A Long Time Coming Started by: Quilly on Feb 26, '09 02:22
Quilly could pick him out of any crowd. Everyone had that friend, or in some cases an acquaintance, like him. If you didn't know him and sometimes even if you did you didn't approach, look at or talk towards. He was the type of man that held himself well, one could say above others.

She looked up to the second floor that loomed over the stage where one of the upcoming solo jazz musicians sat tuning up for his show. Quilly spotted him as she craned her neck to the side as if she was stretching it, he sat in a large brown leather chair, his suit black, hair slicked and a cigarette between his lips.

The second floor cocktail waitress passed by his table, he quickly threw up his right hand and snapped his fingers at her. When she came quickly back he cleared his throat and ordered whatever he was drinking tonight. Something with a fancy name that hardly anyone could pronounce, maybe that's the difference between American prep schools and the ones his parents had sent him to in France.

Quilly felt that she had "stretched" her neck quite enough and let her date take off her coat, pulling out her chair and pushing it back in after she had sat down. Her mind quickly wandered back up to the second floor V.I.P. section and the man in the brown chair with the silver cigarette case. From her table she could see him playing with it on his table, anxious for the exclusive show to start. He then moved his hand from the case to his drink, she figured he was taking a sip, but couldn't see.

Her mind wondered to the facts about him. That he grew up a well established, wealthy family. His father being a big name in the streets of Chicago and had actually introduced his young son to now mob boss El_Nino. El_Nino must have seen something in those determined eyes, as the man that sat above her was now El_Nino's trusted right hand.

Quilly's date excused himself from their table near the stage to get them a few drinks. She quickly also got up, saying she had to go to the ladies room, but actually went up the flight of stairs to the second floor. She stood next to her chair leaning down slightly.

Have a light?

She asked him, he narrowed his eyes at her at first, but after he took in her well groomed appearance he smiled. He gracefully took out a match, struck the rough surface at the base and a flame appeared. He carefully moved the lit match towards the cigarette Quilly held in her mouth and between her two fingers. She took a puff.

Thank you sir.

She said and nodded. The musician had started, finally. His smooth jazz flowed through the small venue.

People are correct. You do deserve the prestigious rank of Earner. Congratulations Alaric_Malloy.

Quilly smiled and continued on her way.

Aurora locked eyes from across the room, with Alaric. He was the man of the hour, and boy did he earn it. She knew he was going far in this life. He was definitely starting in the right direction. She grabbed her glass of wine off the table and took a sip. Before setting her glass back on the table she carefully stood up and made her way over to Alaric.

No need here for the silly games. She extended her hand to her friend and shook his hand

Congratulations, Alaric. You've worked so hard for this.

All those congratulatory Don and Godfather threads were getting rather common, to be honest. It's nice to see someone recognized for a different rank, if only to spice things up. I mean, honest, what's more common today? Earners or Consigs? I have no idea, but the fact that I'm even asking is a bit mind-blowing.

Alaric, I've heard stories about your father. He was a jerk sometimes. But beneath his crusty exterior was a cream filling of honor and dedication that I have rarely seen in these parts. I can only hope that when the world nibbles on you, you shall respond similarly.

MacLeod coughs.

Truly sir, the idea of you being able to now wield the power of 15 drug units is truly intimidating.

Congratulations.
