Ladies and Gentleman,

In the last... well... 4 months... I have seen such an outrageous amount of crying over the most ridiculous shit from... Pretty much the same sources. Just outdated, ugly little cretins who can't seem to grasp that things aren't going to be the same... And why should they be? Things under MANY, MANY past regimes, several of which my bloodline supported, have seemed to all blend together in a sea of gray compared to where they are at now (a vibrantly gay magenta). However, I gained something much more valuable from my ascendants... Perspective.

So right now I want us all to look very realistically at the complaints lodged by stale mindsets and critical failures.

There are too many Godfathers and none of them have earned it!

In the past years that some of us have existed in the life of crime, there had been two Godfathers. The streets were rife with betrayal to your fellow man, and the inherent need to one up anyone and anything. It was very rare for someone to reach the pinnacle of achievement in Don let alone the highest rank that can get passed down. Jealousy, envy, grudges, etc. all drove the population's ambition into the ground and created a malaise that was quite frankly sickening. That all changed in October when an ambitious group tried to kill the ruling class, it was a story as old as time. It was the classic high school football star giving the head cheerleader his varsity jacket and asking her to go steady. However, what arose out of that war was something much greater than anyone could've fathomed. A small... VERY small band of survivors were tasked with starting anew. I know, I was there to see the war end, and was on that crew of people. In this group, a certain spirit started to stir that if they survived such a typical war only notable based on its brutality then surely that was not the way to conduct future affairs with neighboring crews. It took another month but finally there was some headway made on re-establishing the cities. By January, many of the cities had begun to flourish and develop their own brand of differentiations.

Yet despite the successes we had started to attain, as Marietta's LHM, I saw we were still constantly bombarded with requests and urgent telegrams saying that we shouldn't let certain people get Don/A Crew/Godfather as they would surely use that opportunity to attack. I can't say it wouldn't have been easy to fall into the trappings of that line of thinking shared by such special people as John Q. Got Boss Once. However, the lesson of October had been learned, the topic was, "War should always be a last resort, it is always bad for business." Words spoken by so many, but meant by none, until recently. So what does earn Godfather? A merit badge? War wounds? 100 kills? In my opinion, earning Godfather is no simpler than thinking you can make a difference, positive or negative aside, and stick to your guns on the decisions you make regardless of a small minority prone to retarded allegations, petty grudge holding, and a lack of taste for anything that doesn't match up with the Old Guard Status Quo. This is for people new to this world as well, I want you to take a good look at those who formulate such dizzying insults and allegations, most of which are perennial Earners and Goombas, and ask yourself, "Is this what I want for myself?" The people who got Godfather did so because they understood that to work towards change was greater than to wallow in a way of life that never worked. They realized that having even a little trust in another human being greatly increased their potential. That's earning it in my book, and seeing as I'm a Godfather, and the people who complain are generally a slew of angry Goomba malcontents, my book should probably be on the best-seller list.

Having so many crews is irresponsible and cheapens the honor of being authed.

The hugest flaw in this way of thinking is that the people who actually adhere to this argument are serious. When Marietta and Aurora began developing the plans for authing families into empty cities they started to toss around the idea that multiple auths would be an interesting way to see things get done. People could lean on each other in the same city instead of on Detroit for support and there wouldn't be such a treacherous backlash and need for help on Detroit's behalf towards the other cities. The plan was a success in that it broke down the norms that had existed previously that each city should only have one leader, and that leader should lead a family of 150 people... Directly into the ground. The only thing one leader per city does is kill any sense of ambition. Everybody wants to succeed in this world, and having 20+ examples of it is a lot more encouraging than 7. For months, and even still today, there are such pathetic arguments that the manpower resources to support multiple crews in one city are too low, but I hear about crew numbers each day, and the ever-growing populations within families seem to prove otherwise. The people who decided to take those steps and become bold-suited even though so many others claimed the world was still flat and they'd fall right off the map instead of finding people to man their proverbial ship have only proven the simple theory of "More Crews = Better" to be correct. There seems to be a bit of hesitance in weakening the legions of the "main" family, but from where I'm sitting, there hasn't been a "needless" war for quite some time. To not trust your family enough to allow another member to branch out under you in the same city is the err in thinking, not this new order.

Everyone has goals to achieve, either family-oriented or individual. The reason you, dear reader, can't believe ANYONE who says that more crews cheapen their meaning, is because where do those people normally reside? Inside of a crew. Obviously crews haven't been cheapened enough to provide these teat-suckers a home and protection. The only way becoming authed into the world of bold suits loses its honor is if you let the yahoos turn you into one of them. Remember the old saying, once you go Jerusalem, you can never go back to being anything.

Taxes, Pay4Rank, Jailbreaking ruins/cheapens/destroys everything. LEAVE BRITNEY ALONE!

I don't think I've lived in an age where a reign could be marred by such petty things. I offer to rank people for money. Philly, New Orleans and Detroit have taxes. Many cities have pickpocketing policies. People sell crackdowns and it helps others rank, sometimes quickly. Well now I've seen Armageddon. I can't speak for the other leaders, but to be completely fair, we just can't make a livelihood off of petty crimes. So, in what may be a first given the loud dissent from the same small group of idiots, we, mobsters by blood, decided to try to make a buck. Should I pause for dramatic effect? When you get to a certain place of power, or have complete control over a city, you actually give yourself options to make money. Rank is a commodity I possess, I am in a unique position to give people my blessing for ranks they can't otherwise attain. I do it for a price. Why? Because I'm a Godfather, and above all, have lived a life in crime. Things don't just happen for free. Philly, New Orleans, and Detroit all made taxes unique to their cities. Wow. I was stunned at the audacity of them not to offer up such grand schemes as "resurrecting" their bar districts for spare change. You can partake in the current offerings or not, and I think, to wrap this all up nicely, it speaks a lot about our current culture where crews don't get warred because they don't do things on their own accord, like pay a tax. You don't need to throw yourself into an alligator death roll each time someone suggests a service get offered for money. You can say, "No thanks."

Thomas clears his throat and adjusts himself lasciviously several times at his audience.

I've said a lot in a simple fashion about things that many people just can't seem to get over. It's not that difficult people. The overlying theme in all of it is progress. We are making lots of it. For those who just can't seem to stop being utter Jerusalems about it, then you'll be what you always have been, roadblocks. Constructive criticism is good, complaining is bad, there's a difference. Be a better person or be Vitiate, it doesn't make a difference to me, but I will say that a lot more doors open up for you when you realize things aren't as they were. They're better.

Well Put Thomas

Excellent points in parts, not so in others, but I think you just have to accept the fact that people will gripe and people will voice opinions, constructively or not. A man of your experience will know that every single reign over these shores has been littered with detractors. To expect otherwise from people is futile, that's just how things work, end of.

Someone had to say it and you did it well. Nice job Thomas.

He had been happily strolling that morning, listening to the quiet buzz of the streets. Something about this or something about that. Nothing that really interested him until he came upon his city's Godfather, who was preaching vociferously to a small group of true-believers. Brick stood there for a few minutes to hear what he was saying, and found himself inching in to get closer. He heard it all and wanted to be a part of the discussion. He raised his hand and waited for his turn to be called.

I enjoyed the speech. I actually stayed for the whole thing, which is unusual these days to tell the truth. Now, that's not to say I agree with everything in the speech. I won't go so far as to say I agree at all. Or, that I don't agree. I can just say - I see your points. Some of them.

There are too many Godfathers: What is too many? What is too few? I don't know the answer to that. I would just say that maybe the issue with it is this. And this is not a complaint as much as it is my own selfish disappointment or observations. You work so hard in this world for one reason - to attain rank. Now within that word rank are so many other things: respect, loyalty, a voice within this community, etc. Your ultimate goal - to achieve that rank that so few before you have attained. And when you look up and there's a live Godfather in every city, it just cheapens the rank. Understand this. I AM NOT SAYING THAT IS REALITY. I'm saying it's perception. The reality is attaining the rank of Godfather is virtually impossible and the hardest thing you will ever do in this life. But the perception among the community is that because there are so many the rank is cheapened. And you know what they say about perception...

And frankly - the bottom line is that once you start creating Godfathers, you no longer have any choice. And you said something about - making some crewleaders Godfather would give them the opportunity to attack. That honestly sounds a little naive. I think the opposite is true. Holding them back from becoming Godfather would give them the opportunity to attack. And I'll ask you this question Thomas: if The Godfather of Philadelphia wouldn't have approached you with the oppourtnity to become Godfather of New Orleans, what would you have done?

Now, I don't have time to respond to every point, though I think you deserve it because you put in a lot of time on this, so I do apologize. I will respond to one more...

So many auths...

I have declined to put myself in the position to argue about this one in the past - to some extent. I think other members of my immediate family have spoken enough for both of us on this issue, and so I've stayed on the fringe. I think we're being a little disingenuous about the reasons we auth. Everybody likes to call their ideas progress. So our generation will look at what we've done and say "yeah, we made progress." While those in the next generation might say what we've done is ridiculous as we often do when looking at generations before us. Some say the way things were done in the past was progress compared to what is happening today. You know, thining the herd, so to speak, or other ways things were done in the past. I don't know which way is better. But that word - progress - strikes me as odd. I too look at the crewmembers we have, and the numbers in each of the crews. I see a net gain of 1 member for the last week or so in my particular family. 1 member. That, to me, is amazing in this world. Because we often lose members for one thing or another. They take their own lives, or are killed in some silly accident, or a dispute, or they just can't follow rules. Then what are we left to do? Well, we're left to find replacements as are all others.

And here's where my problem lies. There's no longer any, how do articulate (my closest friends know I have difficulty articulating at times) what I want to say here? I want the cream of the crop, you know what I mean? I want to be selective. But honestly - in world where it's important to maintain numbers to compete with other families, there is no selective recruiting. There are 18 ( I don't know the real number, may be more or may be less) seeking the services of the new members of this community. I hope we are all selective in our recruiting practices, but are we? Really?

And so what some call progress, I guess I would call self-preservation maybe.

I do believe you are correct Thomas, a lot of people have been nagging about the new god fathers, and its not fair to the god fathers. Obviously, they had to put in a lot of effort and hard work to get to that position. Overall, you could just make a post called, Quit Your Bitchin', and address it to all the whiners out there.

All valid points.

There are too many GodFathers: You are allowed to have your own opinion on this. The people that have reached their rank of GodFather have put in the time and effort to be given the honor. They are not some chum off the street starting out in the mafia world and handed a city. They put in the time just as you and I are. They have had their own family and have shown us what they are capable of. Whether they deserve the position will be something learned with time. I don't care if it was John Smith and this is the first of his bloodline. If he no longer deserves the position he will be taken out. For the time being I havn't seen a funeral for one have you? That has to say something about how they are doing.

The taxes: Its their city, if they want you to wear yellow sun dresses and blue high heels when you enter their city then you better hit the shop because you don't make that choice anymore. They control the city, they have earned the right to tell you how things go in their city.

Jail Breakings: We all have our nitch, if you gain rank through earnings then more power to you. Don't bash on someone else because they earn respect in different manners. If it was not important to this world then everyone would spend their whole time in jail.

My point basically is, stop bitching. If you have a problem then do something about it. If you don't like the change then leave. This is the mafia. Nothing is handed to you on a silver platter. You get what you have earned from the respect you have built through time and the effort you show.

That was well said and put forth. And like people have been saying there is alot of godfathers now, I'm not saying it's for the good or the bad,but hell there was a time when 5 or 6 godfathers is all we needed.

Good point !
