Paging Doctor Gato! Started by: Marietta on Mar 01, '09 01:00
"So you're sure you're ready?" the blonde woman asked, her voice low as she leaned around the corner to check that the hallway was empty.

The lack of a response worried Marietta Rossi, Godfather of Detroit, and with a bundle of nerves wiggling their way through her stomach she flicked her green eyes towards her male companion. He didn't look too happy, his mouth drooped into a frown as he slowly adjusted the hospital scrubs he had thrown on quickly. She knew that Louis Gato was probably furious with her at the moment for this little charade. Yet was it her fault that he seemed to be the only man who ever went along with her crazy schemes in times like these? In this instance she wasn't going to accept the blame, and it was obvious that Louis knew that as well.

"Do we have a choice?" he asked bitterly, staring at his Boss and friend with a raised eyebrow of self loathing.

Flashing him a thankful smile she stood up straight, making sure her purse was closed as it swung precariously from her arm. Giving her business suit a quick brush down with her free hand she nodded towards him energetically.

"You look great. Almost like a real doctor."

"Uh huh."

"Now just remember, room three-ten. That's where you need to head."

A grimace marked Louis' face but she quickly ignored it. There was absolutely no time for being namby-pamby. This was a dangerous mission, one that she hadn't quite bargained for when she and Louis had told Carmine Ttrapani to 'get the contracts back' two days ago. With a sigh she shook her head slowly, recounting the job she had instructed her associate to embark upon.

It was supposed to be easy. Just a quick drive by, pop in, fudge a few facts, lie through his teeth and grab the contracts. Marietta had made a sour business deal over syndicate territories that she, like all women are bound to do, had changed her mind about at the last second. Unfortunately for her the contracts had already been signed and sealed. Brilliantly she had come up with a plan to send Carmine in to retrieve them- and after *much* convincing of Mister Ttrapani and his Boss, they had agreed.

Carmine had tried, of course, and failed, though that hadn't been his fault. Halfway through his mission he unfortunately had been caught out by the Galvagno clan, another rival crew located in the Motor City and the family of the contracts in question. Instead of letting him go they had served a little justice- shooting him several times in the shoulder and chest.

Miraculously he had survived, and had just enough energy to drag himself to the local hospital. Marietta had been thanking God and thanking her lucky stars that he hadn't been killed over her selfish maneuver. When she received his phone call it had seemed simple enough to fetch him and take him back to the HQ for some home remedies, but now there were bigger problems to be faced...

The Galvagno family *had* to have known where he was. They had their hands in all sorts of places, and who was to say they didn't have a nurse or two on their payroll? And she knew, in her heart of hearts, that they would come back to finish the job if they caught wind of Carmine's survival... unless she and Louis got there first.

"Okay, it's now or never. Remember- I'll provide the distraction, you get him to the car. Pedro's keeping the motor running. We have six minutes until we're leaving. We can do this. Are you with me?"

Louis rearranged his scrubs slightly, glaring with an envious glow at the simple lab coats some of the real Doctors were wearing, strutting proudly and with dignified importance through the halls. Fixing botched jobs was becoming a routine irk that Gato couldn't stand having to suffer. It was the only time he regretted his oath of loyalty, and much rather be enjoying his oath to himself of 'Get-wasted-on-Saturday-nights-and-not-prance-around-in-mauve-scrubs-for-the-Godfather'. As his mind ticked over the events about to unfold, he watched as another white lab coat-tail fluttered past him

"Well, yeah, but why can't I just have one of-"

His whine was cut short as Marietta shoved him out into the bustling corridor with a quick jab to the ribs. He winced but set his mind on the job at hand instead of cursing the woman.

The rooms that lined the hallways were bustling with activity, people dashing in and out, noises coming from each one and a general sense of urgency filled the atmosphere

He cleared his throat and straightened his scrubs once more, feeling the Godfathers eyes burning into the back of his head, he rubbed the back of his scalp with a slight sense of relief and upon feeling nothing but his shaggy hair, he strode off. A sudden realisation came over him and Louis pivoted mid stride, turning back towards Miss Rossi, he whispered a hiss at her through clenched teeth, a sense of urgency in his eyes

"Whichroomisit??"

"Three Ten!!" Came the irritated, but unsuprised, reply hiss from between Marietta's lips. With that, Gato finished his 360 degree pivot and continued onwards

He stepped slowly past several of the cubicle like rooms, concentrating so much on not attracting attention a slight scowl formed on his brow. It was then he noticed the familiar form of Tito Galvagno, bruiser and thick witted younger brother of the more deadly Johnny Galvagno, chatting happily with a nurse. Louis kept aware, noting not the hulking figure of Tito, but who else might be lurking in the crowds.

Rolling her eyes at Louis' retreating back, Marietta instead turned her attention to the nearby nurse's center and information desk. A sudden realization and fear struck her as she studied the multitude of women dressed in white, bustling about with folders of paperwork and dialing various numbers onto their phones...

"What the hell am I going to do?" Marietta mumbled to herself, narrowing her eyes as a young brunette lady leaned over the desk and flashed a smile towards another, pretty red-headed nurse, who was sitting in an office chair and had just hung up her phone receiver. True, the woman's outrageous plans had always been legendary (or at least joked about) in the HQ, but they had never been pre-planned or, sadly, well thought out. Her objective was to keep these ladies, and subsequently the doctors, away from Carmine's room long enough for Louis to drag him out of the hospital. But... how?

Clearing her throat she once more checked her purse to see that it was, indeed, closed and that her weapon of choice was completely concealed. There was no time to lolly-gag. She would have to, as she did so often in her life, throw caution to the wind and make it all up on the spot. That hopefully wouldn't be too hard to do.

Sauntering over casually to the counter she leaned upon it and looked the two women she had been studying previously in the eye.

"Hi," she said with a small little smile, tapping her fingernails on the glossy counter top.

The two women exchanged a glance before turning back to Marietta, their faces twisted into looks of puzzlement.

"Hello there. Can we help you?" asked the red-head in a strangely high-pitched voice.

"Mmm yes, you can," Marietta replied. Taking a deep breath she turned her head back and forth between the two ladies, finally shouting out a well placed: "I've got it!"

Jumping out of their skin the two nurses backed away from her a few inches. Noticing this the Godfather immediately began to chuckle.

"Oh no! No, no no. There's nothing to- I'm sorry. I'm just confused, that's all. I need your help."

"Oh... alright... how can we...?" the brunette nurse began to ask, clutching her file folders closer to her chest.

"I'm looking for a man." Marietta bit the inside of her mouth and raised her eyebrow thoughtfully at the pair.

"A... uh, man?" came the brunette's reply.

"Indeed. A man."

"This isn't a place to meet men, ma'am," came the disgusted tone of the red-head.

Marietta simply blinked several times before she responded.

"I'm not looking for 'a man', Miss. You've misunderstood me. I'm looking for a specific man. A patient here. A man by the name of..."

She trailed off, her eyes darting around wildly, taking in various people and objects situated in the waiting room. At last, and to her dismay, her line of vision settled on a lone couch, sat in the middle of the floor.

"...Couch."

"Couch?"

"Yeah, I guess," Mari said quietly with an inward sigh. Grasping at straws was her least favorite activity. "Barney Couch."

Though the look on her face clearly read 'suspicious', the red-headed nurse picked up a copy of the patient registry and ran her finger down the list. She did so twice, and once she was done she rolled her eyes back up towards Marietta. "There is no patient here by that name."

"Oh. Imagine that. Is there any way that you could possibly double check? I swear that-"

"No," interrupted the other nurse with a forceful tone. "You'll have to excuse us, ma'am. This is a hospital. We don't have time for this type of game."

Marietta's mouth dropped open in shock and surprise as she stared at the two younger women before her.

"Well I never!" she stated in mock horror and placed her hands on her hips.

"Really lady. We're done, leave," stated the sassy nurse, snorting in disbelief towards her companion. The two resumed their conversation, blocking out any further word from Marietta.

But oh, she wasn't going to give up that easy.

Turning on her heel another wave of inspiration suddenly struck Marietta. Without another moment of hesitation she dropped to her knees, sprawling to the cold, linoleum floor of the hospital. Quickly noticing how uncomfortable this position was, she flipped onto her back, rearranging her skirt and jacket to make sure she was completely covered.

"Oh dear! Help! Help! I've fallen and it hurts terribly!" she shrieked, silently hating herself for what she was doing. Hopefully Louis was having a little more luck on his end of the bargain...

Ducking and weaving, Louis felt like he was dancing between patients and doctors, so much for not making a scene. His eyes had not wandered far from where Tito stood, but he was sure the hulking Galvagno would have someone with brains nearby, so kept alert. A sudden yelp sounded from down the hall and Gato knew in an instant that Marietta had pulled one of her oldest tricks. He would grin at such an occasion, but that meant she was all out of smart ideas, so he had to be swift when the opportune moment arose.

There were still plenty of staff members tottering backwards and forwards through the hospital, so Mari's diversion was probably taking a little longer than planned. Louis didn't mind, it gave him chance to pick out any more Galvagno associates that were lurking in the building

Dodging another sweep of the corridor, Louis turned out of Tito's gaze and breathed a sigh of relief as the man-mountain overlooked him once more. This feeling didn't last long however, as he turned straight into the path of a nurse on a mission

You'll do!!" She barked, grasping the blinking man and dragging him into a nearby room.

Louis stumbled into the cubicle, regaining his balance after the manhandling nurse released him, and he prepared to give her a scowling she would never forget. This however, was interrupted by the writhing and agony stricken man that lay before him. Apparently, his wound from a previous operation was bleeding out and through his own wriggling, was causing him much pain and discomfort. Gato though, was no doctor nor did he care, so in a moment of utter desperation, he took a step backwards and tripped himself

"Oh dear! Help! Help! I've fallen and it hurts terribly!"

Carmine was at the bottom of the the almost calm pool called unconciousness. He kept having flash backs of something shiny and metal causing an explosion so loud it still made his head ache, not to mention something about his shoulder and chest. He felt tired, like he wouldn't get up if he tried.

"Sir..sir! Can you hear me? Sir!"

A low, almost manly, obnoxious voice suddenly brought him up to the surface, his eyes slowly opened and the pain hit him like a ton of bricks. Causing him to yell out in pain, not knowing what spot to try to comfort first.

"Ahhhhh, my shoulder! my chest! fuck!" Carmine yelled, obviously suprised and hostile about how much pain he was in.

"Sir, relax. I'm going to ask you to sit back, relax and I'll give you a quick shot of morphine, that will kill the pain and back you a little sleepy." Said a short, pudgy nurse who looked like she might even have a five o'clock shadow as she pushed on the shoulder that currently didn't have a hole in it.

"Just shoot me again, this time in the head!" He sat back and noticed his surroundings for the first time, not paying attention to anything else. He was in a hospital, very well decorated, with pictures of flowers in buckets on the wall and a huge window that let enough light in to upgrade Carmine's headache to migraine.

"This will only hurt for a second hun, you'll feel a quick pinch and the pain will go away, you need some rest and the doctor will be in here soon to check up on you. We'll wake you up when he's here" The nurse said in a calm manner as she placed the syringe into Carmine's vain and pressed down, releasing the powerful pain killer into his body.

"But...I...have...to...get..to.." He tried to reply, but soon the morphine took effect, taking away all his pain and worries.

And ability to defend himself.

The red-headed nurse and brunette nurse didn't look too happy as they stood over her, their hands on their hips and their eyebrows raised so far they were almost hidden by their fashionable little uniform white hats. Obviously they could tell that her fall had been as staged as a scene from a movie; neither of them were moving to help her to stand or check for injuries. Behind the nurse's station a clock ticked slowly. Three minutes had passed. Three minutes to make it to Pedro. 'No time for dramatics, Mari,' the older woman thought to herself, deciding to give up her charade. Marietta gave a nervous chuckle and reached her free hand upwards towards the pair.

"Heh, mind helping out an old lady?"

With a heavy sigh the brunette nurse moved forward, extending her hand and grasping Marietta's own. As the nurse began to pull her up, however, Marietta was caught in the strangest case of vertigo. Time seemed to slow to a crawl and the room seemed to tilt and spin as she saw, past the young lady, past the nurse's station, past the waiting room a one Tito Galvagno standing in the middle of the hall.

And he was looking straight at her.

"Oh God," Marietta vaguely comprehended herself saying. From the glint in Tito's eye she knew in her heart of hearts that he would be coming after her. She had to find Louis. She had to rescue Carmine. And she had to do it all *fast*.

Not even blinking her eye she quickly wrapped her ankle around the brunette nurse's own. "Sorry," she muttered as she tripped the woman, the poor gal letting out a horrible shriek as she dove headfirst into the linoleum. Immediately the red-headed nurse rushed to her friend's aide, and through a fog she heard the second nurse call for help. More people fled from the nurse's station and past her; out of the corner of her eye she saw spurts of blood littering the floor. She had probably broken the nurse's nose. Yet none of that mattered. Locking eyes with Tito again only one thing became extremely clear:

She needed to find Louis.

Room three-ten. That was the room Carmine was supposed to be in. That was the room she had sent Louis to. Pushing her way through the small crowd that was gathering, Marietta quickly slid into the side hallway, trucking her way as fast as she could towards the 'three' wing of the hospital. A rattling sound ahead spooked her as she clomped her way through the passage in her too-tall high heels. For a moment her blood ran cold. What if it was Tito- coming to get her?!

Her fear was unfounded as a nurse with a huge laundry cart passed by. Casting her eyes a the bounty a sudden idea struck her.

"There you are!" she called to the small, waif of a nurse. The woman's eyes immediately went round and she stopped in her tracks as she stared at the Godfather.

"M-me?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

"Yes, of course you. Laura said you would be here. I need a fresh uniform."

"O-oh," was the lady's only reply. Marietta, before she could be pressed for any questions, strode forward and grabbed a fresh nurse's uniform off of the top of the pile.

"Thank you. I'll see you later then, alright!"

Walking away and leaving the poor girl shocked, Mari slipped the nurse's uniform over her clothing as she went. She was nearing the corridor where she needed to be- and the numbers on the doors were starting to get bigger the further along she got. Three-oh-three, three-oh-four...

A loud commotion was coming from inside room three-oh-five. Biting her lip, her curiosity peaked, she tip-toed to the open door and looked inside. There, writhing around on the floor mumbling to himself was none other than...

"Oh give me a break!" she sighed exasperatedly as she stared at Louis, performing a perfect replica of her own 'help me I've fallen' bit. Time was probably long gone by now, and knowing how impatient Pedro was she assumed he was already halfway back to the HQ at that point. With the Galvagnos on the loose, however, she didn't want to chance losing any more men on any more of her asinine missions. Throwing her shoulders back she marched into the room and over towards her Consigliere.

"Excuse me," she said gruffly to the nurse who was standing over him, looking shocked. As the woman stepped away Marietta bent down to her knees and without further ado slapped Louis across the face.

"GET AHOLD OF YOURSELF, DOCTOR!" she shrieked dramatically, knowing that at this point she was drawing more attention to herself than need be. Standing up she pulled Louis up with her by his arm. "Your patient needs you! Pull yourself together and... and... get with the program!"

"Oh yes!" agreed the nurse, nodding as she stood by the table where the injured man lay moaning in pain.

"Uh, oh," Marietta said, blinking twice as she realized what was going on. "Um, not this patient, obviously. Doctor Sponge...en...heim...er...stein... is needed in another room. You'll have to page Doctor... well, someone else if you need help. Sorry!"

Grabbing Louis by the hand she shuffled out of the room, pulling him along behind her with much difficulty. Once they were outside of the door she turned to look at him with a roll of her eyes.

"Uh, you're welcome."

"Welcome?! Welcome for what?! You got me into this mess!" came the reply.

"Yes, but if I hadn't just saved you you'd be performing open heart surgery right now. Now we need to stop messing around. I saw Tito Galvagno. We have to find Carmine."
Report Post Tip
Louis nodded in agreement. His mind was suddenly set back on Tito Galvagno, though the big man was slow to react and a little dense, he hit hard and if he got hold of you there were very few lines he wouldn't overstep, especially in a crowded place like this where he could slip away. Brushing himself off, Louis looked back at Marietta and almost ordered her about, though it was more the urgencey of the situation that caused his words to come across as demanding

"Ok, I've got Doc Santoro waiting by the stair-well, go find him, I'll get Carmine"

Louis thought for a second, his mind working quickley. How could our over-sized ape friend be used to our advantage? Tito was stupid enough, but there had to be more clout hanging about in this place. Gato glanced back at Mari, flapping his hand as he spoke towards her bag

"Put your glasses back on, and wheres your hat? You always have that big hat!! Oh never mind. Look, you need to get tito's attention and have him follow you. Doc will be at the stair-well to support"

Louis pointed towards the wall where Tito was stood, out in the hallway

"There's a fire escape out that way, if you can get him or whoever else is lurking in here to chase you, then we can meet you out back. Just pray Pedro is still out there. We'll need to flush out some of these people so I can grab Carmine, too, so make some noise when you reel in the Galvagno"
Report Post Tip
Doc Santoro is a man who never questions his orders. He will accomplish them by any means necessary, but this time he had to wonder why his boss would have him wait by a stairwell like this for such a long period of time. Especially, in a hospital with so many people around. But he wasn't going to dwell on it. He would just wait here and stay alert.

"What the hell is that?" Doc says to himself.

He heard the commotion coming from the hallway upstairs. He thought to himself that someone may have passed on and the family was just grieving out loud. But just in case that it wasn't, Doc had pulled out his .45 Beretta to cock it and place it back into his pocket very discreetly.

As soon as the commotion calmed down, Doc went back to thinking about Carmine. He hadn't heard anything about his condition in a day or two. He was worried that his friend and Capo would not make it.

"Just what I need, to bury another friend."
Report Post Tip
The morphine was starting to wear off, and slowly Carmine begain waking up. He laid there at first, staring up at the sealing, taking a deep breath and wondering what would become of his wounds. As he grabbed the bed rails with what little strength he had, he heard people yelling loud somewhere in the building and thought maybe who ever it was might be coming towards him. He looked around the room as quick as he could be he didn't spot any of his clothes, and no clothes meant no guns.

"Son of a bitch, I gotta get outta here and get back home, hide out for a while and let Louis and Marietta know what the hell happened." He said in a low voice to himself. Wondering if they had already found out. Maybe they're looking for him right now, or maybe they haven't found out yet and it was all up to Carmine to get back to the stronghold and warn them.

He slapped himself in the face to wake up, shaking his head and opening his eyes wide, he knew the first thing to do was find some clothes and find out how the hell to get out of the hospital. He looked around the room, nothing, some spare sheets, a box of tissue..finally he spotted a closet that was half way open.

"Maybe my pants are in there, if not then good thing I wore clean underwear today."

Walking over to the closet, he opened one side. Nothing. He opened the other side, another gown. Having little options available, he put the other gown over the one he was already wearing.

"Better than nothing I guess, I have to find someone's clothes before I leave otherwise people are gonna think I'm crazy."

A silent laugh shook his body. He *was* crazy. After all, you have to be in order to live the life he had. Following a crazy woman's orders who rumor had it owned a lot of cats and didn't get out much, getting hit on by rugged nurses' and walking around the hospital in underwear.
Report Post Tip
All she could do was nod. Though Louis was taking a less than pleasant tone with her at the moment, even the Godfather knew when to suck up her pride and follow orders- if it meant saving a life or, well, there were five of them at the hospital that day, so five.

"I'll do what I can," she said to her captain with a grimace as she rummaged around her purse and pulled out her sunglasses. Perching them upon her nose delicately she gave a sad glance towards the man. Would this be the last time they ever saw each other?

"Louis," Marietta said quietly, her tone pitiful and a bit frightened. "I-I just want to say good luck rescuing Carmine, and that if this doesn't work out it's been a pleasure knowing-"

"Stop with the dramatics and get moving!" came the exasperated reply.

"Geeze. Aye aye, Doctor Gato. See you in the parking lot."

Turning away from the man and clomping down the hall in her high heels she skidded to a halt at the corner. She knew that behind this wall Tito Galvagno was probably lurking... waiting... ready to shoot her dead on the spot or worse- punch her in the face and give her two big black rings around her green eyes. Gulping in fear but knowing now was not the time to lose it in front of her men she made a visual map in her head.

The hallway itself looped in a grand square, the stair well to the second floor on the side of where she stood- right next to where Tito himself stood. If the woman, through some miracle of God's, could make an entire lap around the hospital ground floor *and* lure all the Galvagno soldatos after her, she could duck into the stair well and, keeping her fingers crossed and praying, make a timely exit with Doc Santoro. All they would need to do then was loop around the back, take the stair well back down to the first floor and sprint through the exit.

Where, she thought murderously, Pedro better have been waiting if he wanted to keep his job.

"It's now or never," Marietta muttered to herself, and with the insanity and intensity of a warped mind she jumped into the hallway. Within three seconds flat she had her gaze upon Tito Galvagno and he, likewise, had his sights set directly upon her.

"SQUEEE!" she shrieked delicately, turning on her heels, kicking off her black pumps, and beginning her barefoot sprint around the hospital. Behind her she heard the undecipherable angry shouts of several men, and chancing a look backwards she saw that three men built much like wrecking balls hurdling straight for her.

"Oh gawd I'm gunna die!" she wailed, taking a sharp corner and beginning the second leg of her trip. Her chest felt as if it were on fire as she pumped her arms in time with her speedy leaps, and cursing herself and her body that despite all her great care continued to age each year, gritted her teeth and put on an extra burst of speed.

The shouts came louder, and from behind her crashing sounds (most likely gourneys and hospital trays being over turned) called out to her, beckoning her to take another look over her shoulder. Marietta didn't dare. As she rounded the corner to the third corridor of the square she stumbled, stubbing her toe into the wall. "Ah fuck me," she stated briefly before running again. It was almost over... she was almost there... just one more corner...

Around the last corner she skidded into the wall, quickly feeling her way along the doorways and door knobs until she found the one marked "Stairs". Without further delay she pulled the door open and then scrambled to shut it quickly behind her. Turning around wildly she saw a young man standing next to the stairs with wide eyes and a dapper suit and hat.

"Hi," Marietta said breathlessly, clutching at a stitch in her side with her free hand. "Are you Doc Santoro?"

The young man nodded in response, to which she flashed a smile. "Doc, I'm Marietta. Nice to meet you. Now we need to get a move on. There are murderous Italian men right outside this door, holding guns with our names on 'em."

Louis sighed with a smile, knowing full well his good friend and boss had all the cunning and positive karma to will her way to Doc Santoro. Through the years of moving up in the family, many had come and gone, but there were those few who had always been there and as far as Gato wanted, they would stay there. Now all he had to do was find Carmine the crippled Caporegime and throw him out the fire escape, and with a little bit of grace and good luck, he'd land in Pedro's back seat.

The Consigliere was pulled from his thoughts and blinked several times as Tito's men pulled out their pistols and started racing past him. People screamed and scattered, causing the goomba's to regret making their weapons visible, but that's all that Gato needed from them. He slipped around a corner and crept quickly down the hall, sticking to the walls. His eyes kept shooting a glance over his shoulder as people ran, and a wave of confidence passed over him as he felt things were coming to a half decent outcome.

Making another sweep of his surroundings, he looked back ahead to suddenly come face to face with Johnny Galvagno. His cold, ice blue eyes widened at the sight of Gato, his wrinkled brow furled into a scowl. The two recognised each other straight away, though the ageing Boss was a little slow to react, as Louis fired a single punch to the mans jaw and sent him reeling backwards. His senses returned almost instantly, as he reached into his pocket to pull out a small blade that was sheathed in leather, though by the time he had lifted it high enough to become a threat, Gato already had his hand on the back of the man's head.

His face crumpled into the hospital wall with a sickening crunch, blood smothering the once clean surface. Louis released his firm grip from the Galvagno's thinning, gray hair and let the unconscious man stumble to the floor. His nose was broken and a tooth smashed to pieces in his own mouth, though Gato didn't spend much time admiring his work, and was already on the move. He found three-ten and stepped quickly inside, greeted by the hobbling figure of Carmine Ttrapani, wobbling around his room. Louis blinked for a few moments, before looking up at his friend.

"I've just knocked out Johnny fucking Galvagno" Louis skipped any formal greeting with his Capo, before smiling at the mans sorry state and throwing his own arm over his shoulder

"We've not got long, Marietta's hopefully with Santoro now and are making their way outside, we've gotta drop down the fire escape, there are Goomba's everywhere"

Carmine simply grunted a response, Louis could only imagine the pain that was shooting through him with every movement that they made towards the fire escape
Report Post Tip
Just as Carmine was about to open the door and walk out into the main hallway, he heard a bunch of yelling, bed pans flying and what sounded like a woman being chased by the boogie man. He took his hand of the door knob and stood there, listening to see what was happening and when he would have the chance to escape. Hearing someone coming towards his room and not knowing what was going on outside, he tried as quick as he could to get back to his bed, but before he could the door opened and before him in what he would describe as an interesting looking disquise, was Louis Gato. Just as he was about to greet him and ask what the hell was going on, he was being hoisted onto Louis' shoulders and being told they were making an exit through the fire escape.

"Well, hi to you too Louis. Don't mind the underwear, I've been shot twice, hit on a very nice but masculine nurse, can't find my clothes or my gun and here you are carrying me like a sack of potatoes. Good thing Marietta is crazy huh? And I'm glad Doc is here too. That way when we all get shot with guns from the Galvagno crew, he too can share in the experience. Oh, what a day!" Carmine said in suprising sarcasm to Louis. Who was power walking towards the fire escape.

"Yes, Thank God Pedro is here with his car. Otherwise we'd be sittin ducks." He said more to himself than Carmine. After judging the distance from where they were to the car, Carmine's some what sturdy weight, and the hopeful idea that Marietta and Doc had taken care of the wrecking ball sized Goomba's, he spoke to Carmine in an urgent and almost careful tone.

"We gotta get you outta here as quick as possible, the only way to do it is to drop you down into the backseat of Pedro's car, after you're in, I'll drop down and we'll go around the side to pick up Marietta and Doc. We'll haul ass and get back home as quick as we can, providing we don't have to stop for food or any bathroom breaks. Hope your not afraid of heights, because here we go."

Carmine felt his weight suddenly thrust forward and out into the free air. He soared like a majestic eagle hunting fish in the mountains. From where he was at, he could see Pedro's car and the questionable size of the backseat. While he tried his best to aim for the backseat, out of the corner of his eye he could see a woman running like she was on fire, with three huge men behind her, and next to her was Doc Santoro. All of a sudden it was like slow motion, Carmine saw the look of awe on both of their faces as he was in mid-flight, heading towards the backseat of the car. Only problem was he wasn't soaring like an eagle, it was more like a football thrown by someone who didn't know what the hell a spiral was.

"Ooooooooohhhhhhhhhh shhhhhhhhiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiitt!"

The car suddenly rocked side to side as Carmine's two-hundred pound frame hit the seats with a thump, thud and a ding as the top of his head hit the door the same time his shoulder with the hole hit the seats.

Marietta and Doc had almost forgot they were being chased and snapped back into the situation at hand.
Report Post Tip
Doc was in awe that he finally got to meet the Godmother of Detroit but now wasn't the time to stare. He knew that he had to get her out of there and back to safety.

"Nice to meet you, Ms. Rossi. Let's get you outta here!"

They both scampered down the stairs, Marietta gasping for breath while Doc is rummaging in his coat pocket for his .45. About halfway down the stairs, Doc trips and falls, nearly taking Marietta down with him.

"Heyyy! Watch where you're falling! She yells to him.

"I....I'm sorry, Ms. Rossi." Doc grunts while picking himself back up.

They continue down the stairwell to the sounds of gasping, grunting and cursing. Doc couldn't help but let out a chuckle or two. They finally reach the bottom of the stairwell and head out the side door. Crashing out into the street, Doc spots Pedro enjoying a smoke while waiting outside the car. Suddenly, a huge shadow appears and blinds out the sun for a split-second.

"What the fuck is that?" Doc states in amazement. Marietta starts to chuckle at the sight of a grown man soaring through the air like a zeppelin ready to crash.

Carmine's body made such an impact, one could not help but wince. But now, Carmine was safely in the car and now a getaway was next on the list. Doc and Marietta stopped to watch Carmine's fall but they quickly gathered their thoughts and broke into a frantic sprint to the car. Marietta's legs had about all they could take before she would fall to the ground. Doc noticed this and in mid-run, he snatched her up and threw her over his shoulder and continued sprinting towards the car. Now, Doc was yelled and beat on while he carried her to safety.

"Put me down! I'm wearing a dress, you dumbass!!" She screams at him while flailing her arms like a child against his back. Doc couldn't help but grin. He often smiled on his assignments. It was his nature. The actions of a wiseguy.

The woman was breathless, silent. Between running her marathon, clambering through flights upon flights of stairs with Doc and now having seen Louis, like some lunatic, dump Carmine over the edge of the building and into the back of Pedro's car, Marietta really didn't have a word to say. That's probably why, after stopping dead and watching Mister Ttrapini, the amazing building diver, she could barely find the words to tell off Doc Santoro when he whisked her onto his shoulders and ran towards the waiting car.

"Put me down! I'm wearing a dress, you dumbass!" she had barely found the energy to shriek, beating her fists against his back as the man chuckled between giant steps across the pavement.

Bobbing on his shoulder she finally felt him stop. Without warning Doc dumped her into the back of the car on top of Carmine, who seemed dazed and confused as to where he was, before jumping into the front passenger side seat himself and shutting the door. Squabbling around for room with Carmine for a moment (involving much slap fighting and name calling) they finally settled in and looked at Pedro, Carmine clutching his head behind the man himself and Marietta sitting behind Santoro.

Pedro, wide eyed and open mouthed, had turned from the driver's seat and stared at them all in horror. "What... the fuck... is wrong with you guys?" was all he was able to ask. "I was just about to leave, and instead of coming out the front doors like you said you decided to jump off the roof? What the hell happened in there?"

Waving her hand frantically she hit the man on the shoulder and shook her head.

"No no no, there's no time. We have to get out of here."

The three men continued to stare at her blankly. Men. Horrible in emergencies. Apparently they needed a little motivation. Opening her purse and pulling out her gun she brandished it wildly at them.

"Pedro, start the damn car or I start shooting!"

Marietta's shooting record was legendary for being quite abysmal and Pedro, obviously not wanting to find himself with a bullet accidentally lodged up his nose, stepped on the gas and propelled the car forward. Relaxing a bit for the first time in minutes, the Godfather leaned against the car seat and sighed softly. What an adventure. Who would've thought that the Galvagnos would actually have *already* been at the hospital? Louis had been right, though. He called it. If he...

"WAAAAAAAAAAAAAIT!" shrieked Marietta once more, lunging forward and pushing past Pedro's shoulder to grab the steering wheel. In a knee jerk reaction the man stomped on the brakes, causing Carmine's already frail frame to sail into the back of Pedro's chair.

"Louis! Ohmigawd we forgot Louis!"

Her tone was panicked and without another word she turned in her seat to look out the back of the car. Louis was running towards them, waving his arms in the air and his mouth was opening and closing angrily; obviously he was shouting at them to stop.

Behind him, however, came the horde of Galvagno clan soldatos... all running just as fast and just as furiously.

Louis dropped down from the rusty ladder that hung from the steps leading up the building and turned to see Marietta barking orders at Pedro, just before the car sped off. He sighed and shook his head, no doubt expecting any better from such a fabulous day. What made it worse were the gun shots that suddenly whipped past his ear, causing a duck and sprint action from the Mafioso. Clutching at his chest as he ran, Louis was reminded he was not the fresh faced nineteen-year old he had been upon recruitment into Detroit, and his middle aged body, complete with an over indulgence lifestyle, was starting to become clear.

Taking a risky glance behind him, he watched the fuming Galvagno's flailing their arms in pursuit and shooting towards him. Gato focussed on his legs and willed them to move faster, looking up in time to see the car come to a screeching halt ahead of him. It was unfortunate for him though that his legs would not stop in time, though even more unfortunate for poor Carmine, who would have the consigliere vault into the car and land directly in his lap.

With a grunt, Louis collided with the rear bumper of the car, his torso slammed forwards into the trunk as he came to a sudden stop. Though his path of motion didn't stop there, for he then rolled on one shoulder, sending his legs flapping into the air before he came full circle and landed on the wounded Ttrapani. He looked up at his friend and managed a smile

"Good catch" He chuckled, before grimacing and clutching his chest

"Aahk, think I broke a rib"

After tossing Marietta into the backseat like a rag doll, Doc hopped into the front passenger seat. Pedro, after obvious persuasion from Marietta, started the car and began to drive off. Doc suddenly realized that Louis was M.I.A. and before he could get a word off, he heard...

"WAAAAAAAAAAAAAIT! Louis! Ohmigawd we forgot Louis!" Shrieked Marietta from the back seat. The sounds of Carmine grumbling and Marietta cursing Pedro filled the air while the faint sounds of Louis huffing and puffing and making a break for the car.

Doc started reaching around in his jacket pocket for his .45. He knew that trouble would be brewing ahead when the Galvagnos were involved. Louis finally vaulted in the back seat and the sounds of more grumbling, moaning, and cursing were even more vocal than before.

"Hit the gas, Pedro!" Doc yelled at him. Pedro floored it and created some separation between our heroes and the Galvagnos.

Just when they thought they had a clear route home, a 4 door black sedan appeared and nearly clipped the car. A wave of gun fire was aimed at the car. More groans and cursing came at the car but this time it was directed away from each other.

"Who the fuck is shooting at us?!?" Yelled a dumbfounded Pedro.

"What does it matter? Just drive the fucking car!" Marietta shouted at him.

Doc finally got the .45 out of his car and returned some fire towards the car. He exchanged fire with the Galvagnos for a good thirty seconds.

"Watch where you are shooting! You almost took my hat off. Louis had always been a stylish guy, even in the sign of danger. He often worried about how he looked and if he looked good doing it.

"Quit your bitching, Louis! Or at least duck your head." Marietta spouted back at him. They often bickered like a married couple.
