Guardian approaches the crowd with a ponderous look on his face.

I've been sitting here for a while, watching the world go by, observing friends, associates and barely-known-faces alike. They cross a broad range of families. What struck me was that there are quite a number of people who, despite their bloodlines traditionally being closely-linked with the bloodlines of current CLs, have surprisingly opted to join other families; families you might not expect. Examples won't be named, obviously, but this got me thinking.

For returning bloodlines, what influences their decision when it comes to joining a family? Generally, bloodlines that have been around for even a couple of generations will have a fair idea of who's from which lineage. Personally, my bloodline will generally join a "friendly face" upon reaching these shores, not because it's cosy or for a free ride, but because I feel better equipped to help them where necessary. Whatever they need, they know they can always come to me and I'll help out, it's in my genes. With a non-familiar crew leader, it takes time to re-do all the good work and build up your bloodline's reputation in their eyes, often from scratch if they're unfamiliar. For me, it comes down to continuity from the good work laid out by your forefathers. In the bigger picture, there are certain drawbacks to bloodlines always forming around the same central group, but it's not a major thing.

How do others feel? You tell me. Do people like to keep coffee shop friends and mafia associates separate intentionally? Have people seen friendly bloodlines change for the worse when in power? Do you base your family choice on longevity chances rather than past associates, so join the strongest family at the expense of a smaller, more vulnerable family run by an old friend? Do you indeed stick to the "friendly face"? Does anyone genuinely ever snub a "friendly face" in order to join someone they're not familiar with, or do we ALWAYS have a link to the family we join, even through the RH/LH man?

Not a major discussion, but one that intrigues me based around people's behaviour.

I know my family line for about six months now have been involved with the same crew leaders. Ever since Marietta got authed a long time ago, my family has pretty much consistently been going to Detroit for protection and a place to stay. Whether this is because they felt most welcomed or not, or because they were most well known there is a question only they could answer, and obviously they have passed on so they can not answer.

Generally I go to someone I kow of. Whether that is a associate I know from the coffee shops or someone that my father was a member with.

However, and I know some other peoples family lines do the same, I join a family that has just set up. I have no links to them but I go and try and build something with them. You meet new people, make new friends and are actually part of 'something'. Some of the diaries of my ancestors show the great times they had with people they got to know from scratch..

It depends on what you are trying to do I suppose. If you come back and want to perhaps rejoin an old family or to continue on with a past persona, or want an easy way to get to the top, then join an old family and old friends. But some people want more, and want a change in their lives, and so a new family offers a chance for new friends, and a new challenge, totally fresh of any previous lives.. If the person so wishes of course!

I find that it is a matter of security for most returning bloodlines. If they are secure within their familiar family and are ensured a place to grow and rank up without too much more than the average threat, then they often return there. In case of war, though, many seem to head to unfamiliar crews. Either this is for known protection, or just to start a new life as an unknown face. I suppose some mafiosos enjoy keeping with old ties, while others prefer to make new ones. Each to his own.

I believe that many people join different families for a various array of reasons. One might go to a family they have known for a while and if anything happens then the next time they might try something new. It's all about that persons experiences at the time and their parents I believe. For the most part though those that have been around a while more then likely not know someone from most of the families. As everyone before myself has stated, whether it is for security or a new start there are several different reasons to either join the same family and friends that the persons blood line did or not to.

"Each to his own." As Ember stated.

Well Generally i always go diffrent and that because i havent made many friends in my past Kin but now i have now im here so i shall now join familiar faces as i will feel much more secure and they know how i work and what i like doing in my time on here, also i can chill knowing that i am safe and dont have to build up another realstionship with a new person.

I traditionally go back to the family my father was part of. As a child, my father would take me to the coffee shop and introduce me to the guys, I'd get to know them and feel part of the family, though what "the family" means to a child and what it means to an adult are very different. So, when my father dies, I'd step up to the plate and request permission to join that family.
