Fellow Romans, Lend Me Your Ear! Started by: Internet on Mar 01, '09 19:18
Brick and Internet make their way out onto the street, fliers in hand, and pull out their guns. They fire a couple of shots in the air in order to get the crowd's attention, then start passing out the fliers. Internet, passing as Brick holds the crowd's attention by flapping his arms around wildly in the air. As more and more people gathered around the odd duo, Brick opened his mouth and began to speak.

If we may have your attention for just a moment please, ladies and gentlemen! Thank you for taking the time to join us on this here street corner. Internet and I are here to provide you with an excellent opportunity on behalf of la Famiglia di Giaquinto; to build a business from the ground up. Business- not necessarily just bars. Restaurants, shops, if you can think it, submit it. You'll think, create, and draw up the blueprints down to every tiny detail. And what will we do? We'll give you all the permits you'll need, set you up with some contractors that work for our city bosses, and advertise on your behalf.

But here's the real benefit. This is not merely an invitation to set up crappy businesses on the streets of New Orleans. To make things interesting, we've decided to make a contest out of this opportunity. The winner of this competition will be awarded a grand prize of $2.5 million. That's right. The architect of the best business for New Orleans will be awarded the handsome sum of $2,500,000.

The crowd begins to murmur at the promise of a prize. Internet stepped up and waited for the people to settle down, then began:

But that's not all, folks! In addition to the winner of the huge cash prize, if your business is chosen as a runner up (nine in addition to the grand prize winner), and happen to be a Made Man or higher (or plan on ever attaining that rank) you will be given a free pass to enter New Orleans, tax-free, whenever you want.

So, for the peanut gallery - let's go over this again. If your business is selected as the best of the entries, you will be awarded $2.5 million, AND free passage to New Orleans for life. If your business is selected as a top ten entry, then you will receive free passage to New Orleans for life.

Now - how will the prize be awarded? Well, you're in luck. If you read the fliers carefully, there are instructions for what you should do. I'll go over it for the illiterate few. You create the business. Make sure it's awesome. You send your business proposal (draft of street thread) to Internet or Brick_Pollitt, and you will be given the go ahead to build in the business district of New Orleans. If you build anyway, without having approved plans, your newly constructed business will meet an, ah, unfortunate ending.

Brick_Pollitt cut in just then.

However, it's not only about starting a business, but we want to see your ability to maintain one as well. So, prize money and other considerations will be awarded only after your new business has created and maintained a decent base of locals, regulars, and appropriate customers. While there are no 'set' rules as to what constitutes a decent customer base, please try your best. (One liners will not be considered in determining whether your business has maintained a good customer base.)

There you have it. Let the contest begin, and do New Orleans proud!

Emori listens and nods. She had always wanted a business to run herself, but was unsure of herself. The prizes weren't that bad either. Actually they seemed quite good to her. She decided to think it over.

This seems like a wonderful idea. I shall look into it. Thanks for letting us know.

Then smiling she took off while looking the flier over to start thinking things over.

TeQ walks by, listening to the finely dressed gentleman roll the words off his tongue with such ease

Good day Sir. I have listened to your proposal and I would like to make a donation to add more weight to the pot of gold.

I shall donate 1.5 million to the prize fund, so that's 4 million folks. All for a little bit of EFFORT.

Internet sighs and rolls up a sheaf of extra fliers. He walked over to where gangstermann was standing and whacked him over the head with it, before unrolling one and reading outloud:

Why must I send my business plans to you and Brick beforehand? My construction ideas are "patent pending" and awaiting copyright approvals and I'm concerned that you or your lackeys might branch out and steal my operations and userbase before I may get my business off the ground.

Ouch my head hurts. sorry I didn't know that. I am moving it to chicago anyway so don't freak out.

Mr. Rourke, your plans will be safeguarded to the max by myself or Brick, whomever you choose to send them to. We wouldn't dream of stealing anything from entrants; by all means, feel free to keep a receipt from the post office if it makes you feel better.

How about if we are Made and live outside New Orleans are we allowed passage into there without tax while this "competition" is going on?

Also will the customers be limited to only the people who have paid this tax?
Report Post Tip
It seems i have left out some details there. Lets try again.

How about a person who is Made and above and live outside New Orleans wishes to build a business are we allowed passage into there without tax while this "competition" is going on to keep business turning over? And also are their customers only going to be people who have paid the tax?
