Le French pub, Community hang out spot by day, bootlegging operation by night. Tonight, BD sat with his friend Johnny and his new hired man Paul on the loading dock out behind the bar.
Where the hell is he? BD mutters in frustration at the absence of a pickup truck in front of him. "He'll be here soon, just be patient" johnny said in grim voice that said his patience was used up as well. He's never late, there had better be an amazing reason, like he lost his hands or feet. Otherwise dat bum is gonna wish he lost his hands when I'm done with him, he's costing me money! "We may have just met sir, but I can already tell that violence doesn't become you." said a deep baratone voice from behind BD. He turned and smiled at his new friend, Paul thats why I picked you out of the entire line up. You and me have similar views. Just beyond the loading door a phone rang breaking the silence. "I'll get it!" Johnny said jumping to his feet and rushing into the room.
"Hey D, its for you I think its the truck driver." Frowning, BD picked up the phone and listened for a minute, he said calmly into the phone. What do you mean the cops found the warehouse? ONLY HALF A LOAD!!!!! BD said, his voice raising a whole octave. Calming down, he said ok, its alright, calm down I understand. You couldn't have known. Listen very carefully to me. Drive halfway here, then when you see the abandoned slaughter factory ditch your cargo it in the building lobby behind the desk. You understand? after you do that, keep driving, hit the boarder and keep going. Take a little time off, you can come back in a few weeks. alright We'll meet you there.....bye. BD put the phone back and stood there for a minute and sighed heavily. Dammit! that was the only local source for my firewater. "Loop me in D, whats goin on?" Johnny's concerned voice stated from behind BD. Johnny, we gotta go pick up the cases that that Nicky managed to pick up. The fuzz managed to find and lock down the warehouse that supplied my most popular drink. Nicky managed to grab about thirty cases before getting away.
"Half a load, not bad for a guy in a hurry" both Johnny and Paul chuckled at this fact. Come on you clowns, we got whiskey to haul. The three men hopped into the truck and proceeded to drive the 5 miles to the abandoned slaughter house. As they turned down the drive a truck whipped past, going the opposite direction. D got a look at the driver before passing the truck, a scared looking sandy haired youth. Poor kid, just started in this business. BD put the truck in park and proceeded to load the liquid money into the truck. A thought struck D as he loaded the last of the crates into the bed. He turned to his long time friend and right hand of the Brotherhood crew and said, Johnny, I count these bottles personally, If I find one gone, I'm bring it up with Otis. Johnny rubbed the back of his head sheepishly and grinned, "What? I can't help it if the stuff is delicious." The men Finished up and got into the truck to stock the shelves back at the bar. |
