...of the Camarilla. Brick was standing at the bar in the Camarilla headquarters telling a story as he often did, and as often happened when he was telling his stories, he was interrupted. They tended to get long winded, and Sal or Nikki often interrupted him to spare the youths the long history lessons. He was preaching the old ways to the young mafiosi when the tap came on his shoulder. He turned to see Sal standing there. Brick turned and acknowledged Sal with a hug and a kiss on each cheek, a sign of respect. "Brick," Sal said gravely. I need to talk to you. It's important." Brick nodded and followed Sal out of the door and into the street, right in front of their HQ. They both looked around to make sure nobody was listening, then Sal began to speak again. "It's time Brick. I'm calling on you. It's your time to set up and work along side the other New Orleans families. Are you ready?" The thoughts sailed through Brick's mind, one right after the other. Was he ready? He had been trained by THE Godfather of Philadelphia, and by one of the best - Sal_Giaquinto, and felt as if they'd prepared him well for this opportunity. But the challenges ahead were not overlooked. He knew there would be many, from recruiting good members, to teaching his family how to be an active and welcomed part of the community. It would be tremendous hard work, but Brick knew he'd have Nikki by his side, and together they would be able to make a difference. So, Brick nodded, extended his hand, and looked Sal in the eye. I'm ready boss. I won't let you down. "Okay then. There's your HQ, right across the street. I've had some movers move your things, Nikki's things, and some equipment over to help you get started. You need to make the announcement today. The community is waiting for you. Now go." Brick looked across the street, to the 4 story building that would house the new Headquarters of the Elegido Corporation, a subsidiary of the Canal Street Camarilla. Now, as he stood before the crowd that Sal had just addressed, he reflected on how it had all come about, and how it would go forward from this point. Now, down to business. This family is and will always be a part of the Canal Street Camarilla. Because we have our own unique name does not mean we are not a part of our family. I will always remember where I came from, and always honor the code. Honor - Now that's an important word. It is THE most important word that will be spoken in this family, and it emcompasses everything we do. It is our code, so to speak, and everybody who is a part of this family will live by that code. If you don't know what honor means, or how to live an honorable life, you will not be welcome within the walls of this HQ. But for those who are still questioning, let me tell you what I think honor encompasses: Loyalty - You shall be loyal to your family. No matter what friends or former family members you may have outside the cities of New Orleans and Philadelphia, but if you are accepted within these walls, you will give your unwavering allegiance to the family. Respect - You've heard this before. Respect is earned not given. You will earn respect. If you don't, you cannot succeed. That means you will carry yourself appropriately at all times. You will speak respectfully everyone, until they are no longer worthy of your respect. And who decides whether they are no longer worthy of respect? Probably not you. Community - Be a part of this community. I would love to have members of this family rank as quickly as possible, but I'm not interested in those who will sit outside jails and outside 7/11s to the detriment of this community. I want you to be active. I want you to have a voice, and I want you to use it. And that doesn't mean go out to the streets and say "good point" 24 times a day. It means engage. Debate. Go to the bars, restaurants, and other establishments in these cities and get to know people. Mingle, drink, be merry. Do something other than what is increasingly becoming the norm. Now, does that mean I don't want you to do what you need to do to rank? Absolutely not. It means there's a happy medium. Find it. Live it. Enjoy this life. I was talking to Jimmy earlier today. The question is why do we continue to come back to these shores generation after generation. Jimmy's Answer: The people. He's right. I've met the best friend I have in this world on these streets. Couldn't imagine life without her. And would I have met her if I was focused on 7/11's and jailbreaks? No. So, be a part of the community. If you're not, we'll part ways one way or another. Trust - This is a big one. You want to be in this family, be trustworthy. Don't let me find out that you're not worthy of the trust that I will put in you. And I will put trust in all of you, to varying degrees. Again, only one person I trust whole-heartedly, and you're not that person. But your job, should you choose to accept it, is to prove to me that you can be that person. How do you do that? Figure it out. As you become more trustworthy, you will become a larger part of this family. Omerta - We live by this code of silence. You break it, you die. Easy. What you see in our HQ is for your eyes only. If I get word that you've given that information to anybody outside of the family, you die. If I get word that you have broken this silence in any regard, you die. These aren't rules. This is the code. My goal is this: to assist young members in this community the understand the old ways. I'll be doing it by example, and those under me will be doing it through example and direct tutelage. It'll be a far cry from a kumbaya society, and it won't be an easy road. Luckily I'll have my fellow Camarillas working with me and along side us. As expected, my Right Hand Woman will be NikkiPhoenix. She comes from an extremely long line of gifted leaders, is an exceptional colleague, works extremely hard, and has always lived by the code. She and I do not always agree, but that's a good thing as we can come at an argument from both sides and get to the middle. We are like two halves of the same person, and I couldn't do this without her. I thank her for everything she's done, and apologize in advance for all the hard work she'll have to do in the future. She will assist me in running the day-to-day operations, and is owed the same respect. She has been a tremendous support to me, and as much as I enjoy our daily banter, I've long looked forward to having the opportunity to work with her, side by side. Finally - a couple of words to those who are the reason I am here. Sal - I said it when you announced your retirement, but I'll say it again. Thank you for this opportunity. You have tought me so much, and I am grateful for the opportunity to now go out and teach others the important leassons that I've learned. I won't let you down. Jimmy - When I first came to this world, you allowed me to join your family and showed me the ropes. My family has been on these streets for generations, but I can say that none of them were met with a more open minded and helpful leader. Thank you for getting us started, and for pushing us out the door. Nikki - yeah, you know. Let's go to work. |

Your speech made me hard. Take notes, folks. These are the principles we live by and this is how a leader should come out of the gate. |

Nikki had waited for the congratulators to make their way around, shaking his hand and giving him pats on the back, but now she walked up next to him, and slipped her hand in his with a smile. Congratulations, Brick. You and I both know how much you've wanted this. I mean, we talked about starting a family someday, but I thought you mean having a baby and making an honest woman out of me. Though to be fair, Ignatius does need regular changing. So this is the family we have, and the family I've come to know and love. I'm proud of what you've accomplished, and what you're going to achieve here. I already know your potential, and I look forward to working with the rest of Elegido to bring back to the forefront these principles you hold near and dear to your heart. To Eligido, Mr. Pollitt as Nikki squeezed his hand. I'm proud of you, Brick. |
