One Dark Night. Started by: High_SocWinter_Hill on Mar 05, '09 20:42
High_Soc slowly trudged through the dark streets of New Orleans after visiting the local bar. Having just set up his new Head Quarters he had decided to just relax a bit before going back to work the long night away. Looking around he watched as the street lamps flickered against the buildings casting shadows that danced as he continued his walk. The cool fresh night air filled his lungs and he stopped to take a deep breath in. Suddenly hearing something he turned and looked around behind him. A female stood shrouded in the darkness against the building across the street.

"Hello?" High_Soc's voice echoed across the quiet streets that had just recently seemed to all fall asleep. "Can I help you?"

Staring harder into the dark he tried to figure out who she was. Deciding to take a chance he walked across the street and towards her. Still eying her she went around the corner and her heels clicked as she walked quickly.

"This doesn't seem smart at all." High_Soc sighed as he continued after the women. The walkway besides the buildings were very dark and he found himself placing his hand on the grip of his gun as he walked faster to catch up to the women's footsteps.

Listening carefully High_Soc realized that her footsteps had gone quiet and he held his gun under his coat closer. Stopping after taking about 5 more steps he looked around seeing noone in sight. Shaking his head he decided to quit his chase and just go back to his office. Turning suddenly he was startled as she stood just before him.

"What the hell? How?" High_Soc was at a loss for words. He hadn't even noticed that he had walked right past her.

Standing infront of High_Soc Frankenstein shook her head.

"One should really be asking you that now shouldn't they." Her voice was quiet as she stood there in the darkness awaiting his answer.

"I just went out to get a drink and relax. You are the one that seemed to be unwise lurking around the buildings and in the dark." High_Soc's voice was stern with Frankenstein and she laughed at him when he finished he scolding.

"I seriously doubt someone would be out for me verses a clear target like you. Common back to head quarters I think we should both go." Frankenstein walked quietly ahead of him hurrying back.

"Yeah I know.. So much work." High_Soc scratched his head and followed her back down the to the main street.

Seeing the soft glow from the light up ahead Frankenstein stopped and glanced around before entering into the street. Everything seemed to be fine as she turned to make sure that her boss was still following closely behind. Suddenly she stopped as she caught a glimpse of something that seemed to follow just behind her on the other side of the street.

High_Soc saw Frankenstein's quick glance, hit the wall and drew his gun.

Across the street he saw the same shadowy figure Frankenstein did. He motioned to her to duck down behind the wall nearest her.

The weather seemed to turn suddenly, pouring rain, cracks of lightning and booming thunder all around them. High_Soc moved closer to Frankenstein, still hidden beyond the wall just over there.

"Stay here and stay down, watch that street corner, if it moves, shoot it. I am going to double back and come around."High_Soc seemed to shout though barely heard above the near deafening thunder.

"But..."Frankenstein tried to object saying that she herself should go in his place, but he would not have it

"No, i need you Frankenstein. Stay here and watch out for yourself."High_Soc replied before she could finish.

High_Soc ducked below the brick wall, slid behind the dumpster and darted through the back alleyway. Hopefully, the potential assailant did not see him do so. He began making his way through side streets trying to trace back his steps without being spotted or drawing any attention.

10 minutes later...

The weather far worse than before, High_Soc was nearly there, or so he thought. The Dark Night and the impossible rain had gotten him mixed up. He should have taken that left back there...Or was it a right? He did not know for sure, which angered him more. Thinking of Frankenstein, he knew he had to hurry back and figure out who the man following them was.

Just then High_Soc's thoughts were cut short but another loud burst of lightning and thunder clapped the skies like he had never seen. He heard a second, more faint boom.

He thought for a moment and then realized that the second time was no thunder...

"Frankenstein!!!."High_Soc screamed at the top of his lungs. He heard the gun shots again and again

High_Soc raced back faster than he thought possible, jumping parked cars and trampling one man laying beneath a bit of cardboard.
The rain was coming down not in sheets, but far worse. Nothing like this had befallen this place before, this was bad. Nothing could stop him. His legs burned, pain shooting throughout his entire body with every step that hit the ground. His heart pounded in his chest so hard, that he felt as though he may collapse. He was soaked from head to toe, tromping through puddle after puddle and being doused with cold wet buckets of rain. He could barley breathe as he ran back to where he last saw his Left Hand, but that did not matter. He had to find her.

Seconds Later....

High_Soc knew where he was. He recognized The West Bank. He wondered who off the West Side, would dare cross the tracks, and why. "They know the agreement...They know the Consequences!"He said with loathing

He slowed down and came to a stand still as he approached the Alley across the street nearest Frankenstein's location. With gun in hand, he crept quickly and silently through Alley.

Suddenly a fourth shot rang out, as lightning cracked in the sky. The alley lit up for a moment, and High_Soc saw to the end. He raced to end of the Alley...The Man was gone! A Car screeched by taking off back toward The West Banks as fast as they could go.....

"Frankenstein!!" High_Soc shouted as he darted across the quiet street. "Frankie!"High_Soc ran to the wall where he left Frankenstein...She was gone!

High_Soc searched frantically for shell casings, footprints, even for....blood...There was nothing..The rain may have washed away any evidence of an altercation from Frankie's wall

Scared to death thinking what could have befallen his Left Hand, he whipped around to where he saw the car headed. It was gone from sight...

He ran to the pay phone one block up and dialed his men. "She's Gone!...."I don't know..I don't know! just get the hell down to The West Banks now! I'll meet you there!...NO!! Go Now!" High_Soc slammed down the phone and ran back toward the The Banks. He didn't know where Frankenstein was, but he had a good idea that the Westie's were somehow involved...

High_Soc disappeared down the cold wet street in to the Dark Night not knowing what awaited him...

Frankenstein shuddered against the barrel of the gun and wonder what to was become of her.

"Never will I tell." She stood hard against her assailant as she looked down the gun.

Bang

The gun went of in the air as she flinched against the sound of the gun.

"Get up." She was taken by the collar of her neck and drug off into the car suddenly.

"You won't get away with this High_Soc will find me." She tried to grab the light pole that was next to her as her hands were ripped off as she was drug into the van.

"Frankie..." She heard in the distance as she was flung into the van. A black blindfold was thrown over her eyes as she hit the cold hard steel.

20 Minutes Later...

High_Soc had hit the West Side and was jogging through the streets, torrential rain still pouring from the sky, with lightning blanketing it as far as he could see. He didn't know where the van was headed, but he knew if he did not find it, he may never know what happened to Frankie.

Just then 5 cars pulled up alongside him and nearly everyone exited the vehicles and stood awaiting orders. We all knew how vital it was to find her. There was no time to lose. SeanConnery, his Right Hand, approached High_Soc whispering something quickly. 'I know Sean, trust me i know. But, I have no choice!'High_Soc replied.

High_Soc began telling them his plan, which was really no plan at all. He had merely a handful of men against the entire West Bank of New Orleans. He was confident that they could get the job done well. They have trained long enough, there was no better time to be ready.

DonFabrizio and Diamond_Jim_Jr, you two will watch the banks from this side. If they come back, they will come through here. This is the only way through to Eastie. You have had little practice thus far, but I know you can do this. If something goes wrong, send word to Philadelphia. Seek out JimmyTheLionHeart there. He will know what needs to be done.
High_Soc gathered his best men, the few who rivaled even him in marksmanship. They would be needed this night. Tonight, they would be racing the clock, failure was not an option, Frankenstein's life could be at stake!

Candy,CadburyKid,RevanIAm,BD184 and Alphonse, You're coming with me. SeanConnery, take with you Premier,JohnnyRourke,Sally, and Beckett. We must fan out across the banks. Start by the docks, if they are here, we will find them... Someone knows what is going on. I'm going to head over near the scrap yard. They can not have gotten far in this weather. We will find them...We will find...her...
High_Soc thought much differently, but let on to no one. He had to keep his cool.

We split up crossing the bridge to the Western Territory. SeanConnery broke left towards the docks, I went towards the scrapyard. I knew it was a bad idea to split up. Everyone knew it was a bad idea...but it was the only way. What else could we do. There was nothing else we could do...High_Soc began thinking back in his mind to recent days and weeks. Threats on territory threats on his life, who could have taken Frankenstein, where could she have gone...why would they take her?All these questions drowned out his thoughts, his senses, as he made his way...Uptown

Meanwhile Elsewhere....

Jim slid back behind the wheel of his 32 Ford Delivery. He wondered just how they were supposed to watch anything in this portentous downpour. DonFabrizio climbed into the passenger side, cursing as he fumbled in his pockets looking for a smoke.

"Here, have one of these..." Jim proffered one of his fine cubanos "Thanks Jim, mighty kind of you" DonFabrizio said as he gratefully accepted the cigar.

Jim took stock of the young gangster sitting beside him. He didn't really know DonFabrizio; but there was something about his confident manner that made Jim feel quite comfortable trusting his back to this man. Somehow Jim knew the young fellow would be there when it mattered most. For now though there was nothing for them to do but sit and wait...

Hours later after scouring the West Banks, High_Soc met up with SeanConnery again and the rest of the Family

I am found the Van. It's along the far side of the east warehouse. It's been abandoned. Let's Go.

They trudged through the rain, sopping wet and cold, fearing the worst for their friend and Captain. It had been to long...They should have heard something by now...
Upon reaching the van, High_Soc ripped open the rear doors hoping she might be there this time...still nothing.

Okay, you guys go up to the second floor and sneak in, I'm going to go through the side door...ALONE!High_Soc raised his voice

High Soc opened the side door to the warehouse and entered. It was very dark, more so then what he might expect...and very quiet. Too quiet...Something wasn't right. The warehouse looked deserted....Where could they have gone, He thought to himself. Just then he heard footsteps above him. He cocked his gun and turned quickly firing a shot, just missing Alphonse's head. Alphonse in disbelief shouted

What the fuck are you aiming at High!!! That almost killed me!

High Soc shook his head, glad he had missed one of his best men...He thought someone was gunning for him and didn't think twice before shooting

High Soc turned and began walking down the side of the warehouse again. From the corner of his eye he saw feet near the ground behind a stack of pallets right in the center of the warehouse. High Soc started walking towards the person slowly...the worst possible thoughts running through his mind...As he got closer his eyes widened with fear, he stopped for but a moment... he knew..

Frankenstein!!! High Soc shouted to the top of his lungs. The family saw him and began running toward the stairs to see what had happened

High Soc ran to where the body lay...lifeless, upon the ground. The body at his feet, High Soc dropped to his knees, over Frankenstein, wishing, willing and praying she'd move...still nothing.

Frankie!! High Soc cried out once again, the others now gathering around in disbelief. High Soc rolled her over, a pool of blood lay beneath her. A single gunshot wound to the chest was visible. He checked her pulse repeatedly hoping it would change, hoping we would wake up and this was all a terrible dream.
Just inside her coat pocket lay a small note folded up, with the letter A drawn in blood.

High Soc snatched the note and began to read it...

I leave my warning..Heed it well:

Never will you know my face.

I took your Frankie, from this place..

This is but business, nothing more.

But if you wish it, holler WAR...Signed...~A

High Soc trembling with anger crumpled the message from '~A' and threw it across the room. He stood up and faced the others

Who is this ~A that took Frankenstein in her prime? Who is this poet hitman? Find Them!! Bring them to me! I wish to face them as she did...I wish to see what she saw...I want them...GO!!!

High Soc turned and knelt at her body, grabbed her up in his arms and walked out of the warehouse...alone

Outside the the lightning and thunder had ceased, but rain still fell from the heavens. High Soc walked out from the building and stood for a moment in the parking lot. He could see only the moon, for the Dark Night shadowed over everything else. Rain washed the blood from his hands, holding Frankenstein in his arms. He stood for what seemed an eternity, wondering why, how...who...

High Soc began walking back to the East Side, where Frankie called home. As he crossed the bridge into Eastie, Diamond_Jim_Jr exited the van, beside himself but did not say a word. Everyone else followed far behind High Soc, and stopped once they reached the van. High Soc continued to walk, LHM in his arms, as he faded off in to the cold Dark Night...His mind was a blur...Who was ~A...Would he ever know...Did Frankie know...This will not end this tonight.....
