When you enter a family essentially you are giving up your life for the sake of the greater good of the family. And generally the benefits for a member outweigh the disadvantages. A family gives you a shelter to live, to grow and will go to extreme ends to help you succeed in your ventures. So when the time comes, and it dawns on all of us, the sunsets on our lives and we generally break these bonds forged with our family, bonds that were forged with blood, sweat, hard work and dedication. Now there are others that think joining a family is like going to a restaurant. These SCUM of our mafia world think they can come eat, feast, drink, party and then leave! As mind boggling as that is, some have a tendency to that. If you have lived your life in the mob long enough (which should be a couple of days) you know that the only real way to leave a family is in a body bag. I don't mean that with any sense of negativity. Leaving a family in a body bag, as sad as it to see one of ours fall, its the ultimate moment of honor one can achieve from their family. Case in point being the GodFather war, Detroit lost Three don's and they were showered with tears and odes of greatness! These men of honor died for the very lives we live today...is that not a honorable death? Is that not the highest honor one can achieve? So when a member approaches the Don to be released, and as you all know there is a difference of expectations between an associate and a member of the family, a Don has to contemplate the consequences of such a decision. If a member (A Made or above) approaches the Don with such a request, then they have probably misunderstood how the mob works. If you are Made and above, you are the cornerstone of the family, the associates (Made and lower) look up to you aspiring to become a Made Man someday. In this case it is hard but the Don has to draw his lines and has to put this scum of the mob to rest! The only exception to this rule is when a Made member of the family is given their own family...and that moment is a moment of joy for the Don. To release a fellow Made so they can pursue building their own family is the ultimate sense of pride for a Don! On the other hand, if your still an associate (Made and under), the same rules apply but with perhaps just a little bit of flexibility. Hey boss, a friend of mine just got a family, they want me to be their RHM or LHM. Can I please be released? These decisions are always hard for a Don to make, because the Don knows that this associate is a worthy member and will proudly be a Made Man one day. But such opportunities are hard to come by and the Don may sanction the release of such an associate. But if an associate wants out of the family to join another family and they are joining the others rank as a mere member...there's only one way out! Some would say that this is unfair...but ask yourself this. How would you feel if a member that you have worked so hard to develop into a brilliant mafioso wants to leave family for the sake of friendship...break these bonds of blood, sweat and dedication. Isn't that a slap in the face for a Don? Should they be allowed to just walk away without reasonable cause? Is the Don not being merciful & gracious when they allow the above two exceptions? |

| You forget something in your post. What if, in such a case of a war, that the family is being rebuilt, by the RHM or LHM? Isn't the point of sheltering a person to protect them until they can find their true destiny, in a family? | |

This was not forgotten. She has clearly stated that her talk is of mafioso that join a family from the start of their life and wish to leave the family mid way through. |

Well said HP. An excellent point that can at times be missed to those new to our shores, who see family as little more than 'someone to join for protection' rather than 'someone to dedicate my entire life to'. Flipping this on its head for a moment, as someone who has had experience of this in the past, is there a certain amount of responsibility on the family here? Should a made man or above, someone who has been welcomed into the inner cicle and received the button, ever be someone who would make a request of this nature? If someone doesn't clearly understand the bond of family, doesn't understand that the moment they received their button they were entered into the family for life... should they ever have gotten that button to begin with? Has the family failed them in not teaching them the ways of the world and how a true mafiosa should act? Please don't take this as an attack on anyone who has experienced this in the past. I raise it simply as my own bloodline, when in a position in the upper structure of a family, has received a request like this. I know from the diaries I have read, my own forefathers felt as if they had let down the family in question... had let down themselves... and more importantly had let down the mafiosa in question when this happened with a 'true member' that they had been a part of welcoming to the family. |

Alas, I see I my spark started a fire. Well, I recently had this same sort of event occur (in a wierd way). I was released, without a shot being fired by me or against me. I believe that this was due, not to rank, but respect. I showed, what I think, was the utmost respect, to my boss. Rank, that doesn't mean anything. A made man can we killed just as easily, if not easier, than a ganster. Consider this. Who would you kill, the Made Man being an asshole, or the Gangster who didn't ever harm you but, on the reverse, addressed you as sir, ma'am, Madam, or whatever title, and even sent in a small tribute of his hard-earned cash every once in a while? |

I must take exception with the comment 2rank, that doesn't mean anything." When you join a family, as an associate, every single person can work their way up to Wise Guy with nothing more than a little time and doing a few crimes. This doesn't require honour, loyalty, intelligence.... hell, it doesn't even take much hard work. To earn a button, I can only speak for my own family here but I have no doubt that it is similiar in a large number of other families, takes a hell of a lot more! Nobody can earn the right to be 'made' a true member of the family simply by kicking up a bit of tribute from some 7-11 crimes. It takes the trust of the upper structure, people willing to vouch for you, the trust of your crew leader along with hard work to gain such an honour. |

Joe i follow your query, but at the same time, your question has nothing to do with this post. I think HydroPhonic came out to make a strong point, a matter which was beginning to be taken lightly in the post GF war world. And she has as a CL should, drawn light to perhaps a area that my have started to lack the necessary attention! |

With all due respect mate, I thought about that part too. And with 50 members in a crew we try our best to filter the "associates" from the "members" but some get through. A lot of the Made's are generally older players, because they know the way of our world and they will do the "Right" things to Earn the badge. But what if you have some new blood that just got it's FIRST Made? I mean the expectations of a Made Man don't go down, but its fair to say some mistakes can be expected. I guess call it a double standard, but if a "New" made asks to be released, you can show them why its wrong and make them understand. But if a older more seasoned player asks the same, should they really be given that ounce of leniency? |

Marietta had been standing at the the back of the crowd, nodding vigorously in agreement with the speech that her captain, HydroPhonic, had been giving. When at last all the men standing around had taken a breather from their debate, she stepped forward and grasped the woman's hand, smiling a bit as she did so. "You are absolutely completely one hundred percent correct, Hydro," the Godfather said, taking a deep breath and shaking her head in frustration as she turned towards the men surrounding them. "For me there is no bigger pet peeve than a man or a woman who leaves their family for a bad reason. You have beautifully illustrated the proper examples of when it is right to leave a crew. In the life of a soldato there should be no higher honor than to live and die for one's Boss. Leaving any other way besides those that are approved... you are nothing but a bad mobster." "If you leave your family to join another, it is obvious that you are disloyal and selfish. Completely childish. I for one will not allow you to live if you disrespect my crew leaders and captains, my city and myself. Let this be a warning to you- if you leave a Detroit family without proper consent, I will kill you for being a risk to my business." Sighing she turns once more to Miss Hydro, giving a weak smile to the woman. "And if there is one thing I hate above all, it's disrespect towards myself and my associates." |

Excellent speech Hydro! I wholeheartedly agree with everything you are saying and I hope everyone else in our community does also. It is absolutely disgusting and void of honor to leave a family, much less request to leave, once you have joined it. The very few exceptions in which this is forgivable you have pointed out. Benny Blanco glances around at the still lingering crowd listening to this Don's address. Hoping none of the faces he sees are guilty of this though knowing that it is extremely unlikely that they aren't. He continues sincerely... I hope that all of us goombas, earners and wiseguys alike understand this and do not make the mistake of committing this horrible offense. For this kind of action is deserving only of a pair of cement shoes and a long sleep with the fishes. |

Sayyid nods in agreement with the speech, the content stirring memories of his childhood and the lessons his father began teaching him from a very young age. One experience in particular stood out. One cold winter day, young Sayyid despondently listened to his favorite radio show without the usual company of his father. A few hours late, old poppa Muqtada walked in, blood on his shirt, looking mentally exhausted. Seeing his son's eyes wide and filled with only a limited understanding, he sat down and explained the true meaning and value of loyalty, and that it meant never asking to leave the family without the most powerful justifications. This was the bargain: the family would be willing to sacrifice itself to protect its members, but the members must be willing to do the same in exchange. Only through bonds this strong was the entire organization able to flourish; without loyalty this strong, all would stand and fall alone. And in order to secure this level of trust and reliance, those who turn their back upon it must be eliminated for the good of the whole. And that was why his father Muqtada's hands were covered in blood that day. Pondering the meaning of it all, and hearing that he was not alone in agreeing with the speech as it was delivered, Sayyid decided he needed add little to the discussion. HydroPhonic, the elimination of the disloyal is a noble goal which I would be unable to raise a single argument against. Well said. And with a tip of his hat, Sayyid walked away. |

It is very sad that an issue that should be a given needs to be addressed publicly and with such a powerful speech. The truth of the matter is that if you are more than 48 hours old, you owe YOUR LIFE to the Family that sheltered you first. We all know of the endless list of obituaries and the vast majority of names on that list come from people who were not in a Family. The fact that somebody could even consider the possibility of just asking to be released is one of the biggest sign of disrespect and deserves nothing less than a bullet or cement shoes, as BennyBlanco said. |

The family protect you, develop your skills and not cheaply; 1 mill for whacking permissions, 1 mill to make money in certain cities. These people shelter, risk life to protect you if attacked and what for, just for you to say i don't want to be here X seems better, or will give me this. Simple things like honour, loyalty and respect have long been eroded in this thing of ours. Sadly is something that cannot be taught to all and no matter what you give, offer at the end is all thrown back at you like dealing with a spoilt child. |
