To call the room well lit would be like saying a belly wound hurts. The chandeliers over head provided enough luminescence that no one would be falling asleep anytime time soon. The sounds of multiple conversations drifted through the air, providing a dull roar that covered all but the loudest of calls from lucky gamblers. It was a place where one could be seen without being recognized or acknowledged; perfect for what was planned that night.

He observed the people flowing about the room like the tide of some great lake; seemingly traveling in groups to bear witness to the rise and fall of fortunes. Bah. He'd never understood gamblers. It was one thing to gamble with life and limb because your occupation provided no other option, but to willingly place your self at the mercy of an uncaring fate? Fools, all of them. A strange attitude indeed for one who lived and worked in Las Vegas, but he was a family man and money seemingly only flowed from one group.

It was almost time. Soon they would be here, and then he could leave this place and get back to working the streets. It wasn't often men like him were to meet people like those who would be there that night, but he had something that others like him didn't. His last job had been nothing spectacular, nothing more than a night security guard. But then that job disappeared, given to the brother of the branch manager. Nine years of loyalty uncorrupted, and then nothing. Oh well. This would show them. It wasn't everyday that someone who knew how to access the storage vaults at the Denver branch of the US Mint lost their job and joined a group of less than law abiding...associates.

Adrian was born into wealth. His parents were wealthy, his friends are wealthy, everything about him screams "rich". Despite not lacking in money, Adrian always wanted more, partly because he was greedy, but mostly just because he could. He enjoyed getting his money in...unconventional ways, and he always succeeded in getting it. They don't call him "The Champ" for nothing.

Tonight would be different though. Tonight, along with a select group of associates, The Champ attempts to break into the US Mint, in Denver. Something that's damn near, if not completely impossible. Tonight The Champ either goes gold, or goes to jail, and he doesn't plan on being locked up, at least not anytime soon.

With a crowd surrounding him, The Champ enters the meeting place, mingling with the patrons. He waves them all off, and makes his way over to a man standing alone. He extends his hand, and gives him a cocky smile.

Name's Adrian...they call me The Champ. You the guy with "the job"?

Trudging through the snow, MacLeod muttered a brief oath about just getting used to the desert. He entered the casino in downtown Denver and squinted as his eyes grew accustomed to coming out of the night. Noticing Adrian in the corner, MacLeod shook off his overcoat, handed it off, and adjusted his suit. He walked over to Adrian pats his old friend on the back, spilling the other man's expensive drink. Turning to Praeceps, he began to speak.

So this is the young man who's dragged me away from my 85 degree temperatures, beautiful women, and labish hotel suite. To hang out in a snowstorm in the mountains.

MacLeod chuckles and shakes Praeceps hand.

So what's the story, Praeceps? Or do you want to head somewhere a bit less public?
Report Post Tip
Aye, that I am. Follow me please.

Now that the men he was expecting were here, he could get on with this business. He led the two men over to a table he had reserved.

I prefer to conduct meetings such as this in public, no one ever expects it. After all, we three gentlemen are just here enjoying a few drinks after work after all, right? He says with a slight grin on his face.

But now on to business. The idea here is to try to create as little fuss as possible. After all, the more attention we draw, the harder our lives become. So here's what we will do.

I'll be driving the armored truck that we'll use to get in and out of there and take care of the night security. You two will have to make your way to the vault and open it with these combinations listed in order, top to bottom. As he says this, he slides a small slip of paper across the table towards the two men sitting across from him.

After opening the vault, start getting as much into the truck as you can. I'll join you as soon as I can. Any questions?

Don't you worry about a thing, friend. We got this.

Adrian looks over to MacLeod and winks.

You still down?

After listening to Praeceps and taking the paper with the vault combinations, MacLeod hears The Champ ask him if he's ready. Smirking, MacLeod winks.

Of course I am.

Lead the way to the truck, Praeceps.

Following Praeceps out the door and down the garage, MacLeod checked yet again to make sure his gun was inside his jacket holster under his left arm. He assumed that both Adrian and Praeceps would be packing, but you never know. Stepping up into the back of the truck with Adrian as Praeceps started it up and pulled out into the street towards the mint. Whatever happened, he'd be ready.

The night was relatively bright with a full moon in the sky. Good. More light meant less idiots causing accidents. It was always the little things that got you, the things you couldn't predict or plan for. Regardless, at the end of tonight wither he would be a lot richer, or his career would be over for good.

He parked after gaining entrance into the pick-up/drop-off parking lot. As the three men left the truck, Praeceps took a moment to study his surroundings. They were alone, and that was how he liked it. He walked over to the door opening into the facility, and held it open for his associates. He watched as they walked to the left, knowing that this was were he was going to leave them.

He took a right and began to jog down the hall. He had to reach the security office before his companions reached the first security checkpoint. He had no doubt they could handle anyone they met, but he had to shut down any alarms before they could be set off and alert the outside world to what was happening. There. It was simple really. It looked to be nothing more than a closet; this was more out of a desire to save money than a disguise.

He entered the room slowly and quietly trying not to disturb the guard that was likely within. He needn't have bothered. The guard sat in his chair, fast asleep. That made things easy. He moved behind the guard and knocked him out quickly. He then tied up the guard, and blindfolded him. No witnesses, and no needless deaths. It would help them a bit if the police were just looking for thieves as opposed to murders. He looked around and found what he was looking for. All the alarms in the building ran through this line. It saved money and space but doomed security. Typical. He quickly severed the line with his knife, careful to avoid any electric shocks, getting the phone line for good measure, and quickly locked the door behind him with the keys he removed from the guard. It was time to meet his associates and see if they needed help.
