Bodyguard Loyalty To Kin Started by: Liam_Neeson on Nov 18, '14 02:49

so we all know this life comes with a certain expectation of life and death and a certain aspect of loyalty and disloyalty and with that i propose this idea of bodyguards being loyal to the next of kin

now this of course makes sense that some bodyguards would remain loyal to their fallen employer after a certain period of employment, this idea would boost the roleplaying aspect of this world of ours by doing simply this,

allow a certain number of loyal bodyguards to carry over to the NEXT of kin, this doesnt mean 3 characters down the line. this means the next character you make. the reason for this is it would help eliminate post war trolling as that troll would essentially use up the NEXT kin slot for bodyguard loyalty

this would also help bring in an aspect of BG Waving back into this thing of ours, as of now you die and the bg's just sit there like a stool pidgeon waiting to be shot, however if the bodyguards that were still alive when their employer died had a chance to aid their employers next of kin i feel it would help bring more strategy to wars and removals

now i obviously dont mean all the bodyguards carry over to the next of kin. only the most loyal and oldest bodyguards now this option can be tweaked and fine tuned

it of course should have a toggle option incase you would like to come back incognito and choose not to carry over the loyal bodyguards however coming back incog would still use up that character "slot" to bring over loyal bodyguards

thoughts?

I personally think this is a pretty good idea, assuming like you said only a % comes back, and maybe they come back with like 50% and you have to train them up.

Report Post Tip
As we all know, occasionally when you train a BG, they declare loyalty to you, at which point, they give you their name (you get to name them), perhaps only these could carry over, seeing as they have formally declared loyalty.

This is an outstanding idea, can also bring back respectable hitters and hit squad leaders. The strategy comes back and will bring some old school to the game. Awesome Idea Liam I support it 100%.

I don't like the idea of carrying over anything between accounts. Firstly because RP doesn't dictate that you're your last character's child. You can come back with any name, and take on any persona you like. The idea of "fathers" and "mothers" as past accounts comes from our love of the term "bloodline," and that somehow gives us the allowance to consider it "RP" to have three fully-grown men in the same crew in the same week. I'm getting off-track, but my point is that the line between two characters should be bold and distinct. With the exception of credits (which I'm not a fan of), nothing should carry over.

Secondly, this may tend to have a dynastic effect. Getting to cap on one account shouldn't make getting to cap easier on the next. This comes from the idea that every account starts off at zero (plus our answer sets). Anything beyond that, you have to do on your own. Giving certain players headstarts over others because they had more bodyguards when they died seems inherently unfair.

Thirdly, I have no earthly idea what Patton is talking about.

I'm pretty old-fashioned, but I think this is a step away from RP not towards it. The more stats we allow to carry over between accounts, the more we start to view our gameplay as one overarching account instead of embracing each character as a separate and unique identity.

Report Post Tip

I would approve with this idea as long as we make sure that maxed BG's won't be passed on to your descendants.

If someone goes inactive and reaches 7 days, then why would I need to take on a maxed BG with a mediocre gun just to kill an inactive gangster?

that is why it would have the ability to not choose the carry over option if you choose not to RP the characters next of kin

Getting to cap on one account shouldn't make getting to cap easier on the next.

it wouldnt make a world of a difference since this is open to be hashed out as to what could carry over wether it be named bg's or simply just the oldest bg it would and could only be anywheres from 1-11 bg's and we all know even 11 fully trained bg's wont stop a hitter

You already get the benefit of your family's forts, which ensure you have some safety even when low ranked.

I don't really understand why you should get some leftover protection.

Report Post Tip
I think the big reason for it is that the next character has something to lose. So if they do have something to lose they will think twice of coming back and going to the streets to start complaining that their father died and that whoever killed them is worthless scum and so on and so forth. We see a lot of this and I agree, this could prevent some of it. I like it for that idea. Corrupt agents do this for us. Don't see why your most loyal bgs can't as well. Deff is something to think about as this has quite a few pros and cons.

forts dont travel for you when you do drug runs

and if you dont think someone should get leftover protection then why not kill their bg's before you kill that person? if they die with 0 bg's then 0 bg's carry over

as of now someone only really buys bg's to keep them alive from small guns or to serve as targets for when they die

no one thinks of them as a real investment that they are

"forts dont travel for you when you do drug runs"

Yes, you take a risk by traveling into another crew's territory. This validates the need for BGs, not the need to carry them over between accounts.

"and if you dont think someone should get leftover protection then why not kill their bg's before you kill that person?"

Quite obviously, sometimes you want to kill someone before they're aware that they're being attacked. The decision to kill their BGs first is a strategic one, and has nothing to do with whether or not that person's next account should be given BGs after they die.

"as of now someone only really buys bg's to keep them alive from small guns or to serve as targets for when they die"

This is simply incorrect. No one buys bodyguards so that there's targets when they die. Absolutely no one.

"no one thinks of them as a real investment that they are"

Yes, they do. I don't know how you're getting these absurd generalizations about the entire userbase, but your thoughts on how people play the game are tremendously off-base. Crews are assembled almost entirely to fund a CL's BG expenditures. I'm pretty confident that you have no idea what you're talking about.

Report Post Tip

If people want to make a new character and come to the streets and do so in an appropriate manner that is within the game's rules, I see absolutely nothing wrong with that. I'll actually be very sad if we reach the day where someone dies and nobody bothers to fight their corner or explain their side of events.

I assume it is the people who come to the streets and complain in a less than appropriate manner which this is aimed to deter, which in reality is a non-event as the posts will be removed and the player in question punished by the authorities as deemed fit.

As to the rest of the explanation behind why this is a good thing; taylor has it covered.

it isnt about a NEED never did i once say it was a need i am proposing a OPTION

this is why this should be implemented to re-introduce the need for bg waving as it currently is inexistent because one cap killer just buries the bg's and their employer

This is simply incorrect. No one buys bodyguards so that there's targets when they die. Absolutely no one.

the only use users have for bg's ATM is to make it necessary for a capkiller to hit them and not a lower ranked gun, they do not generate income nor do they do anything else than a lead balloon around their employer

Yes, they do. I don't know how you're getting these absurd generalizations about the entire userbase, but your thoughts on how people play the game are tremendously off-base. these generalizations are far from absurd i know exactly what im talking about. why should someone invest nearly 500m into bg's to simply lose them all when they die, such great expense should offer the ability to RP back as the next of kin and obtain the loyal bg's that served their father (this is seen very very very often in anything related to this world of ours in the silver screens and in many other worlds and to simply suggest that they should just continue to be a blackhole of financial debt is indeed absurd which is why im suggesting that they CAN carry over IF THE USER CHOOSES)

Report Post Tip
terrible idea either way you look at it.
Report Post Tip

I think that ONE named BG should carry over. So your most loyal BG protects your son/daughter. And he comes back as a new bodyguard. $50000 saved, most people happy.
