Things We Learn Started by: Marietta on Apr 03, '09 17:35
I have learned a lot of things within the past week.

Sure, I know what many of you are thinking. A woman as old as me can learn 'new tricks'? Well of course I can. This lifestyle is ever changing and ever growing. New equations will arise, strange problems will be solved and at the end of the day I hope that a majority of us come off better for having taken part.

Confusing, I know.

One thing I learned this past week is that most of the community deserves my utmost respect and thanks. After the unfortunate incident with my Don WildTurkey's family being homeless, I am happy to report that only two of the forty-odd men and women were killed. One of them has already been avenged. So in the end, after 72 excruciating hours of losing not one, but two Detroit leaders within that time, we have ended up with only one unclaimed dead man. For that I thank you all. It speaks volumes about your integrity and respect for me and my business. I find that it is only fair that I return the same to you tenfold.

However, not everything within the past seven days has been tinted gold. As many of you are aware there was a band of merry men and women called the Sad Little Pandas that ran around frightening school children with their water pistols.

It is not them that I wish to speak of at this time, though.

Sometime throughout the chaos of children crying and the adults trying to spank the naughty little pandas, it came to my attention that many of the people that were shooting at the Bold and Slanty individuals of this world were using something that many of us have nicknamed "Permanent Auth".

Perma Auth, as I call it, for those that are not familiar, is an agreement between a Crew Leader and his or her soldato. They have given the soldato permission to shoot at anyone they wish, and in return the Leader has the hitter's word that they will not abuse that power and only shoot at what is deemed a 'legal' target. This past weekend I was shot by someone who was a user of the permanent auth oath. What got me, however, was the fact that this was not a soldier of rank to shoot me- but rather it was a Wise Guy. A Wise Guy.

By no means was this the only instance within the past week either, nor was I the only person to suffer from this travesty.

I will not be naming any names, but I would like to explain my utter disappointment at the people that are tricking their families into gaining permanent auth. Why for? These people now have the ability to shoot more than three ranks up or down, and basically can take aim at anyone they wish. Even more upsetting is that people under the rank of Made Man are claiming it is for "hunting the homeless" purposes, which is an utter falsehood that it is 'needed'.

For loyal family members I find it to be no problem to grant permanent auth. By loyal I should become more clear and say Made Men and Women. We as leaders can be funny at times. We will deliberate endlessly over whether or not to grant someone access to the innermost sanctum of our families, but then some of us will grant to a peon who has not even completely pledged their lives to becoming a member of a family yet permission to shoot at whomever they want to.

This is my plea to the world at large that it has to stop.

It has long been a rule in my own family, The Riot!, that everyone over Made Man and up would be granted perma auth. That is because they have proved to me, in their time of service, that they are capable of following rules and devoting their allegiance to me. Everyone Wise Guy and under would have to suffer and do their best to impress me to get their promo, for with their promotions came all the perks.

While I am over here doing my best to make sure that not only my city, but the other crime cities, are safe, other leaders are putting their trust into friendly bloodlines and associates that still have yet to make that prestigious spot in their own crews. And I want to know... why? I am not trying to embarrass anyone or put anyone on the spot. All I want is for the current Leaders, Right Hands and Hit Squad leaders of the Seven Cities to hear my words and perhaps take a different approach to how they are viewing permanent auth.

Think about it logically and I am sure you can see that there are multiple flaws in the plan of giving a gun and free reign to someone who is a mere child by our standards. We make rules for shooting against people, yet we also allow them the chance to act out if they wish. That's like telling someone not to press the big red button. I'm sure we all know how that scenario ends!

No matter how close someone is to you, I am urging other Leaders to not "press the red button". Pauses for a chuckle. The men and women who stand Bold before us today are all individuals of sound judgment, and I have worked with them on many occasions. I know that the last thing they want is to be the one who hands over the keys to catastrophe.

So be strong, fellow Leaders. Be strong against your friends, your family. Make perma-auth something to be proud of, rather than something that will be handed over if they merely ask.

I do not tolerate getting shot at. Yet I am an honorable woman who will do what she can to make amends. I just do not want my well of patience to dry up or to watch as someone tragically loses their lives at the hands of someone not legitimately apart of this Thing of Ours.

Thank you for your time.

To be honest, it's actually getting extremely annoying when these thugs are given perm-auth..

A leader in which takes no time or consideration for accepting it, allows these arseholes to run riot on our streets and just sit back saying "oops, I didn't know.."

Too bad! - there's clearly a lot of things you don't know if you are happy to auth such a thing and not expect possible consequences..especially authing it to people you obviously don't know that well..you make be physically sick to know that why some people sit here, just hoping to one day be picked out for auth, it's people like you that beat us to it and you just don't deserve it.

Hustle stops to listens nodding in agreement.

"well said madam."

I agree no one under Mademen/Women should be given the gift of perm Auth as for they are not apart of a family legitly and are simply associates.

When Leaders wake up each and everyday with request's for perm and simply allow each and every person the right to Shoot freely! at any person he/her wants breaks the whole code of this thing of ours.

Widow nods in agreement with Marietta.

To your point someone of wise guy or lower rank do not need perm auth to be able to hunt those that become inactive gangsters, and Marietta completely understand what you say.

To Frankie I will say that some may portray themselves as something that is not what they seem. To be the most trust among the family, to be there for anything needed is what some will do just to get in the good graces of their boss because yes unfortunately they have different motives then those that are loyal 100%. Is that as you say a leader that doesn't take time or consideration? That may not be entirely true because of how they have made themselves seem.

I understand what you are saying, but at the end of the day, as a leader of a mafia family, you have to be prepared to stand up, raise your hands and admit that you messed up, and so far, we have seen none of that from any of the leaders who have either granted perm-auth to a complete dipshit or allowed someone to reach Made Man who was also a dipshit with bad intentions.

People can be very smart when it comes to "acting", but as a leader, it's one of your duties to catch them out before they reach their goals..

But of course, not every "dipshit" will get caught, some will filter, and I'm not blaming it on the leader, I think I'm just more pissed at the fact that they refuse to take any responsibility in the matter once this "dipshit" has stabbed their family in the back and just gone off shooting everyone.

I'm certainly in no position to speak in regards to what it takes to filter people and deem them fit to carry a gun but I will say that in some cases it might be necessary to give a younger member a small derringer to help protect their higher ups. The gun can then be taken back after danger has passed.

Either way, being given a gun and auth for the protection of a leader is different than being handed a Tommy gun and a full round and a pat on the head.

"a younger member a small derringer to help protect their higher ups. The gun can then be taken back after danger has passed."

Yes ofcourse in times of hecticness younger members are need in order to protect their family heads in which Auth is maybe needed in order for them to do just so.

But, Im going to take back what i said ealier i think auth should be given and only given after The member requesting Auth have proven themselve worthy of gaining this much trust from their leader.

Just because your a mademen doesnt mean you deserve Auth.. Though it does make sense you are only given the promotion of Mademen only after you have proven yourself worthy to join you familia fully.

To my knowledge, one needs authorization to shoot at someone under three ranks below him or her unless the target's been asleep for a week. When a group of hitters find a mark, they tend to take aim when it becomes a gangster--one week after the civilian or thug's entry into this world. However, those two times are very often not the same. I'm not suggesting that "perma-auth" should be granted to anyone trying to train his or her gun, but wanted to clarify that it is a convenience for a family's hit squad when the leaders are not around to grant requests. I don't know if I agree that no one under Made Man has earned the right to this privilege, but you're correct in saying that it isn't something that should just be handed out. There are ways around this--specifically, hitters can request authorization in advance for "hunting the homeless," as you put it.

Anyway, that was quite the compelling argument, Godmother Rossi, and it has certainly changed the way that I've thought about the subject.

I have to echo Widow's words. A Wise Guy can shoot a homeless bum without the need for auth. Auth should be an honor even higher than Made Man, or at least at the same level.
Report Post Tip
Shirley, the main point is that no one under Mademan needs this privilege, at least for the purposes of gun training. A Wiseguy can shoot any gangster without auth.

As far as Mademen and above, it's my understanding it is SIX days, not seven, that is the minimum age for a Mademan to shoot a gangster without auth.

I also don't think we need to start scrutinizing whether or not a Mademan should receive their permauth upon promotion. Let's not get too anal. I know that most of you have no idea what the position of Mademan entails, so you will just have to trust me that it is pretty important and sort of a big deal. Trust goes hand in hand with it. It is inherent to the rank.
