| Congratulations Nicholas | Started by: Marietta on May 01, '09 13:32 |

Marietta steps up to the large office doors, knocking on them politely. They were soon answered by a young boy, a frightened expression on his face as he gleaned recognition from staring at her. She smiled encouragingly, bending down to his height and putting her hand on his shoulder. "Hello, I'm looking for Nicholas?" she questioned, her tone light and pleasant. After a moment of hesitation the boy grinned and nodded, gesturing for the woman to follow. Standing up straight she walked behind the boy at a measured pace, turning down rich, carpeted hallways and past intricately carved wooden doors. At last they stopped in front of a large set of wooden double doors that Marietta recognized as the entrance to Nicky's office. Nodding at the boy she opened her purse and handed him a twenty-dollar bill. His eyes widened in surprise and the older woman couldn't help but chuckle. "Don't spend that all in one place!" she called after him as she darted back down the hallway as fast as his little legs would allow. Turning to face the door once more Marietta cleared her throat and knocked twice. "Come in," called the deep, recognizable voice from within. Pushing the doors open Miss Rossi stepped inside the office, closing them gently behind her. She smiled as she saw Nicky, sitting in his stuffed armchair behind his desk, clutching a glass of whiskey and staring at her with a surprised expression upon his face. "Haha, celebrating alone?" she asked in a joking inflection, crossing the office and sitting down in one of the empty chairs across from him. She crossed her legs and placed her hands lightly in her lap, still enjoying the look on Nicky's face. "Wow, Marietta..." he began, but she immediately cut him off with a shake of her head. "Don't think I haven't heard about your promotion, Nicholas. I'm not here on business. I'm here to celebrate." Reaching into her purse she delicately pulled out a small, black jewelry box. Turning it over in her hands a few times before looking up at the younger man with a sense of pride. "You know, when I first met you, Nicholas, you were the Right Hand to Don Hayley, here in Chicago. We never associated much, but there were the occasional times you would come to me for advice. Or that unfortunately one of our members would cause some sort of havoc and we would cross paths in order to rectify the situation. From those few, small dealings I found you to be a trustworthy man. Effective and authoritative. And above all you were loyal to and loved your family. I never knew just how much until that fateful day..." "When I asked Don Hayley to move her organization, The Fallen Angels, to Detroit it was to protect the crew you two had built together. Unfortunately by the time I made that offer it was too late, and that very night Hayley contacted us both about her plans to take her life. I was afraid, pleading with the woman. You were strong. I remember sitting in the coffeeshops for hours speaking with you, when you at last turned to me and said, 'Her decision has been made. Please allow me to take control of our family. Do not separate us. Do not let the dreams this family has built die.' In that moment I trusted in you. In that moment I knew how deeply you had fallen in love with the members of your family. And with that I allowed you authorization to set up in Detroit." "You worked alongside me for weeks, turning into months. I saw you and the family, which had been on the verge of disrepair, grow and flourish underneath your leadership. You were innovative, creative and full of ideas that Detroit has benefited from still to this day. When eventually the Windy City became open and free of mob activity once more, you and I both knew that it was your time to 'go back home'. I told you merely to never give up and continue to do as well as you had started out doing." "And since your move back to Chicago, the world has seen the Kelly Crime Syndicate branch out, have seen you and your men traveling the streets spreading further the lengths of your love for this business, this life. Now, today, you have ascended to a rank that only so few ever see in their bloodlines. Nicholas, you are now a Godfather. I could not possibly let this opportunity pass without you getting a proper celebration for it. So..." Marietta finally slides the jewelry box across the wide, mahogany desk towards Nicky. He stares at it for a moment and she smiles in response. "It's nothing big, I know. Merely a pair of cuff links with your initials etched upon them. But I thought it would be nice to commemorate this occasion. Congratulations, Nicky. Congratulations on becoming Chicago's newest Godfather. I have long watched you grow up from a gangster to a Don, and I can honestly say that you deserve ever honor that comes along with this promotion. Well done, my old friend." |

Thomas had stolen one of Rourkey's whiskeys to sip on and was waiting in line to congratulate the newest Godfather. It was a lengthy line, and Thomas was sure some of the knaves were there just looking for a spot in the coveted Godfather HQ or wanting a loan. Damn parasites, damn dirty parasites. Finally Marietta exited the office and Thomas kicked away the person in front of him and strolled into Nicky's office. He saw that all nameplates in the office were getting fitted with gold trim and Nicky's suits were being replaced by those handstitched with otter skin. At least the promotion wasn't going to his head. "Hey there Nicky, like the new digs... Although I've found that otter chafes. Anyhow it's been a while since we've romped around gleefully in Detroit together, but it feels like just yesterday. I guess that city does breed winners. I can say truthfully that I am not surprised to see you here... You have always had a steady hand in leadership and a calm disposition that makes you quite approachable. You didn't rush your way to becoming Godfather, you worked hard in Detroit and then in Chicago focusing solely on your family, not your rank. It is those types that make for the greatest leaders, and sure enough here you are. Do well in your new position as I know you will." Thomas gives a nod to the new Godfather and leaves his office. |

Hayley waits for the crowd to lessen, and walks up to Nicky. She puts her arms around him and hugs him. Nicky, I can't even begin to tell you how happy and excited I am to see you here. You have worked so hard, always there for your family. My grandmother would have been so proud of you. I can't think of anyone more deserving than you to earn this achievement. Congrats dear. |

"Donnie, see who that is will you?" Staring out of his window at an ever growing Chicago skyline, sipping a drink, he hears a very familiar voice outside his office "Don't spend that all in one place!" Nicky hears followed by the familiar sound of Donnie running through the halls. He turns his chair to face the door and welcome his esteemed guest. Politely she knocks twice "Come in," Pushing the doors open Miss Rossi stepped inside the office, closing them gently behind her. Turning it over in her hands a few times before looking up at the younger man with a sense of pride. Nicky listens to her words, and they cut to very core of him. Not in the negative sense, but to hear such wonderful and complementarity things said about himself by the most respected woman in our world to say the least is emotionally overwhelming. Nicky looks down at his drink from time to time, making an attempt to compose himself. Then Marietta finally slides the jewelry box across the wide, mahogany desk towards Nicky. Well done, my old friend." "They are beautiful. Thank you. You do know I could not have done any of this without your faith and support of me and my family. I am forever indebted to not only you, but so many from your city that helped us along the way. I owe so much to your guidance. I know that every young mobster dreams of this day.....but i think of all of the twists and turns that have taken place along the way and I guess that make today seem surreal, almost like a dream. I guess I never really thought about the things that I did as special, but more simply as necessity for survival. I will admit it is nice to look at those events in a different light now." "I cannot lie I am in awe to be considered on the level of Godfather Jimmy, and Godfather Rourke and well you of course. I just hope you know that even though this is final level for myself, this is only the beginning for my family and my city. I can only hope to do for Chicago what you have done for our world." Nicky adjusts his new cuff links and steps around his desk to embrace his dear friend. Nicky notices Godfather Rourke heading in "Thomas, it is good to see you again sir. You are right the otter does chafe a bit, but I got a great deal and I do not wear them when it is too warm outside." "Thank you for your kind words. I must say it really means a lot to hear these things from you as I always kind of viewed you as a big brother. I always looked up to you. And most of all, I always knew i could turn to you if I ever needed to. Your a huge reason I am where I am today, and for that I thank you." |
