So far the only leaders who achieved anything worth being remembered for (eg: total domination) have barely been mentioned.

These leaders earned what they earned through fighting and smarts, not through IRC ass kissing and promises of kisses and cuddles when they go bold. |

Hmm, I don't think the older version bosses got their crews through ass kissing, I know VincentGambino and Lopecci got them because there were great players.
I'm surprised no one mentioned Dobleslady/Maverick or Sims or LazyBoy or Stugots/BigAlTheFish. They aren't my favorites but they had quite a following before. |
