The Addition Of Vehicles Started by: Frankie-D on Feb 03, '15 17:15

Hi All,

I'm new to Mafia Returns but have played similar games in the past - most notably Dark Future.

Something I think that would be beneficial to the game is the addition of vehicles.

Essentially,  there would be a number of vehicles that you could purchase. These are scaled in price and rank accessibility. In other words, new players couldn't purchase the best vehicles.

Each vehicle would be able to hold a different number of units and would have different travelling times. For example, a motorbike would be able to hold less units in one go, but could travel quicker.

You could also use a similar feature as seen with the bodyguards. So, over time your vehicle condition gets worse. As it does the unit carrying capacity and the travel time limit gets worse. You'll be able to repair the vehicle however at mechanic across the cities.

The purchasing of vehicles could be done either via NPC owned businesses (you just buy them) or via businesses owned by players or Families or both - creating a new and used market. Again, the age and condition of a vehicle could dictate carrying capacity and travel time.

Just a thought of mine and I'd be keen to hear what people think! I know it's not a small change but it might add something.

Cheers All!

F.

That's actually a pretty good idea. It would give the game a new twist, maybe another form of competition, something else to work towards. Etc.

Something like that is usually not the type of thing that this game tends to add, cars can be roleplayed within the streets and business districts without the need of their coded addition. I don't know anything about how much work it would be to code, or how long it would take for it to actually be added to the game, but it doesn't sound like a small addition by any means, which you even mention in your initial post.

I personally wouldn't care either way if this were added, but I don't think it will be.

Yeah, I appreciate that it may not be the simplest addition - it would certainly involve back end work.

With that being said however, large amounts of the code will already exist within the game as the functionality does. For example, the example above with regards to bodyguards shows that the code for depreciation of stats is currently used.

I just thought I'd chuck it out there and see what people thought.

I have to agree with Ted on this one regarding RP. I personally like RPing them, yet a game code side of things sounds neat. If you add vehicles, then you need to add other purchasable items and a marketplace to buy/sell them. It would mean much more than just vehicles (Houses (units/defence), weapons (+wack stats), clothing (defence) etc.). It would also mean the units aren't just based on XP anymore.

The idea seems cool, just how admin would implement it and if it'll be balanced enough for the game.

Adding vehicles as you suggested would mean a major re-working of the game, particularly in the area of Drugs. Also, as they have tried to keep a somewhat realistic travel time in the game, anything short of a DC-2 would greatly increase travel times.

For instance, A Zeppelin has a max speed of around 84mph, NY to PH is about 93 miles, so including boarding times, take off and landing etc a travel time of 2-3 hours is not unreasonable. Likewise your average car of the 30's, such as The Model A Ford, has a top speed of 65 mph. Sure you can get cars like the Mercedes SSK with a top speed of 120mph, which would reduce time for travel, but when the speed limit around 20-25 mph in cities and higher outside town, you have to tghen impliament a chance to get stoped by the cops and your stash seized if you are speeding. Where this starts to fall down is travelling NY to LA. The shortest flight distance between Los Angeles and New York is 2475 miles so our Zepplin covers it in 29.5 hrs. Your average car, if it could fly would be 62 hours with no stops. Even the SSk at full speed is gonna come in at 20 hours. Our DC-2, one of the most advanced planes in the world at the time:

Maximum speed: 210 mph at 6,800ft

Range: 1,085 mi

So it has to stop twice to refuel and it will still take a flight time of 12 hours. In actuality, this trip took 32 hours and 14 stops.

Sure you can fudge the figures, but that makes it harder to introduce your vehicles. Not to mention that mobsters in the 30s very seldom had any vehicles beyond cars or trucks.

Honestly, I believe this idea, like the repeated calls to introduce weapons is something completely alien and unworkable for how MR is played in its current state, and any attempt to do so would fundamentally change the game, whether that's for the best or worst would remain to be seen.

I personally like the idea. When dark-future was up that was how you travelled. However, I don't think the admins would want to copy for various reasons.

That woukd be awesome :-)

Dark Future was an awesome game, difference was Dark Future is set in the modern era with super sonic jets and sports cars doing in excess of 200 mph. MR is set in the 30s

Frankie-D

I really like the idea of vehicles as a means of transporting units. Maybe different types, starting at different ranks and being able to upgrade
