I will keep this one really quick and simple. It seems to me that there is a gap in the RP spaces. We have a BD where people can run businesses from a city. The streets where people can make announcements and tel stories to the world. But there is no space for people to RP out conversations with friends or visit each other.

Put simply, it would be cool if we had a district based forum that was for houses of members of those districts. I think this will enhance the RP and allow less experienced RPers to give it a go in an environment which has low exposure and low ramifications. I still think that this forum should contribute to posting points and what not thought.

Would also assist in adding an extra level to streets posts. You could have a meeting in someones house in order to discuss a plan and then tell the story or have the open RP in the streets. Will encourage people to travel and become more involved I think.

Great idea!

I've noticed some threads in the streets that people have in a secular house or building, planning jobs, yet it doesn't make sense for them to be in the streets. They would be better role-played in an area like this.

I like how people could RP their own houses, and put down some solid RP regarding residential establishments. It would be a great social and casual RP area for people to shoot the shit in character and also add to character development.

It could also mean people could RP a thread of an apartment building, complete with the environment in the initial thread, and others could RP living in the same building together, or it could be used for other illegitimate businesses, such as DFP's.

It would, in my opinion, give more to in character casual role-plays and have a proper space for them.

I likes it!

Honestly, I think this idea is perfect. It sounds easy to implement, and it is the perfect middle-ground for not a business, but also not out in the Streets. Creating your own home, an apartment complex, or any area where you're not buying something or debating/weaving a tale could be added to this area.

The possibilities could be endless, and it would be a great starting place for most people. Maybe make it so if you create a house or a complex or whatever, you can "lock the doors" and make it only viewable by the person who created it and people they wish to allow to see it? I don't know how much extra work that would be, but I'm just spit-balling here.

Great idea as is though.

People can pick locks in the game though :P

I like the idea of having it secular, yet then that would tie more into a BA thread in my opinion.

For the role-play to be points inclusive in a forum, it should be able viewable to all. I know if it's a residence then some shouldn't enter without an invite, yet that would come down to being realistic with role-play. I think the majority of users here would know better, and anyone that doesn't can just have others report that post for admin to wack, or just ignore the post and MM with a little schooling on the matter.

If people wanted to, they could just RP entering a room in the house in a post and then send a BA to others, if they really wanted it private. The BA is where private shit goes down. This means people still RP in the house/apartment/whatever, so RP can be had and the benefits gained, yet also gives more private scenarios for in character convos and the like an avenue to lead to a BA thread.

The current BA structure works, and can work with creativity and thinking outside the box in conjunction with a 'Residential Forum'.

The only con in my opinion, might be, that with such a character turnover/cycle so many residences might get rarely used and there'll be a large amount of threads for people having their own houses. Anyone else see this as an issue, or no? Or will only a select portion of the userbase only bother with creating a residence, much like a business in the BD?

Report Post Tip

You could have it so that the posts are all viewable, then a person has to ring a doorbell button and be let in by someone already inside (cleared to post) that is in the district at the time?

This would mean everything is visible for the purpose of RP but also mean that randoms can't just post shit. On the con, this would stop people from being able to RP a raid on someones house.

In regards to unused residencies, the same thing happens with Street threads and BD's, the idea of having a limited number of houses and having the tradable could work. Say 20 per district, then can be sold and auctioned and what not and the previous threads made in those houses can be moved into a basement.

Report Post Tip

I was thinking more along the lines of fitting it in with the current way the forums operate, so as to not try and introduce too much for one addition.

What you suggest with the doorbell function, and raids, is the same with businesses. People should know better to not raid a business, or a house, as it's unrealistic and should actually be asked OOCly of the business or residence owner before hand. If they approve, it's considered a part of role-play. If not, then they shouldn't be doing it.

This can also tie into city rules, just a simple line regarding not to raid a business or even post in a residential thread without prior invitation.

This way it ties into the current game, and doesn't need to go onto the long ass to do list before we see it implemented, if ever.

In regards to the basement theory, and auctions, it's the same thing. Too much shit to work out, and similar suggestions have been made regarding businesses and new ownership.

I really just think putting a new forum based on Residential role-play up, with district leaders posting rules around it is the easiest way. It also leaves it open to being moulded by the userbase, as the forums and role-play are basically run and managed in the same way, by us, the users, beside the general role-play rules of being in character and era specific.

Report Post Tip

I tend to agree with you Scarfo. I still think they should be district based though. Just fills in the gaps more IMO

BlackBlack District based though would also be more realistic for the Business District, as each individual city district would have businesses in them, yet it's made that way from my understanding to be more accessible to us users. If businesses, and if implemented residencies, were district specific, then it'll mean having to be in a specific district to access the thread.

It's much more realistic to have it district specific, yet much user friendly to have it city wide accessible.

The great thing about role-playing is you can add those minor details to the thread. I've had businesses in specific areas of a city, and made it so through the role-play in the first thread. This first post sets the environment, and you can mention it being in that district.

It comes down to functionality, versus realism. What I've noticed and others have helped me understand is, sometimes functionality is a better way to go overall, and role-play can bring things to be more realistic.

Just my opinions, and again it comes back to ease of implementing into the current setup MR has going.

So simply put, adding another forum entitled Residential Forum (or whatever it may be) would work on the same rules etc. as the business district. I'm not even sure how they do these things, yet it seems the easiest way to do it (if possible) and requires really nothing new other than cities declaring their own rules around posting in this area.

Report Post Tip

This is true, although half of the point is to actually have a place with less exposure. Gives more protection to new RPers and gives them less to worry about. the BD isn't set as city wide because it is more accessible to users, it is set as city wide because it existed before districts were even a thing.

Report Post Tip

True, it would work that way. If both can be changed then it'll be better overall for realism, so if it can then why not. I'm just thinking more to fit straight into things.

Maybe an admin can put their two cents in on how hard it would be to restrict forums to district specific, to narrow down this suggestion.

Also not trying to hi jack your idea mate, I think it's brilliant, just trying to help streamline it so it gets implemented ;)

Report Post Tip

Na i know i know. these things take lots of moulding to get right. was more just letting you know in case you didn't already :)

Report Post Tip

Yep :) And also no I didn't, I missed these things with my time away so appreciate the info.

Report Post Tip

I think this is a good idea.

I would make it national, rather than city specific, just for ease of use and communication.

Report Post Tip

I've been trying to see if I could come up with any specific additions to add to this, but I'm struggling to add anything more than fluff.

I like the idea. It certainly gives us new options and new opportunities.

It would be far more functional to have it national, my own biggest issue with BD threads where I often don't get an opportunity to reply for prolonged periods, but I can also understand if it was restricted to City (or even district) from a RP point of view so I'm fairly open on that one.

Report Post Tip
A lot of my motivation for this is to encourage people who don't feel comfortable in the streets or the business district. Actually looking for a forum with a smaller audience to encourage new people to have a go at RP.
Report Post Tip

I would have to agree with BlackBlack, yet more so for realism. Being able to visit someone's residence in every city you are in, doesn't exactly make sense and seems a little unrealistic. It'll also give people more of a reason to travel to another City. It'll also promote inner city role-play, much like the BD's currently do, which seems better for the each individual cities growth.

If you open it up nationally, then BD's should also be the same yet I would be against this for the same reasons. I wouldn't make it district specific though, just city specific to mirror how the BD's currently operate. Just my opinion.

Report Post Tip

I want to bring this one up again. It seemed to fall flat despite the good discussion to strart.

Report Post Tip

Why not use the business district?
