Leaning against the window of the small pastry shop window the Godfather of Detroit, Marietta Rossi, let out a heavy sigh. He was late. How dare he be late? Sure, she had pushed back the date of this meeting for several days now, but that was besides the point. He should've been ready. He should've known. He should've... Her thoughts quickly stifled themselves as she heard the tinkling of the little silver bell on the shop's front entrance. Turning her head she saw just whom she was looking for walking through the door, stooping his tall frame as he did so. Grabbing her handbag and giving a meaningful glance to her bodyguard companion, they stood to greet him. "You're late," she couldn't help but mutter towards him, making a bee line towards the door and stepping out into the cold, Detroit afternoon air. "You said to meet at..." he started to respond, shaking his head silently and rolling his eyes instead. He fell in line behind her, following her as she weaved a path down Woodward Avenue towards a small gathered crowd. In the center of the crowd was a small podium, placed delicately upon the stairs om front of a large building. Yet it wasn't the building the men and women were gathered there for. Behind the podium stood a young, energetic woman- also known as Marietta's Right Hand Aurora, who was answering a question asked by one of the men with a notepad whom was obviously representing some sort of press circuit. "...And we hope that by buying up more property, we can not only help out the economy by selling it at a better price for potential business owners, but in the process will help to expand the Rossi and Company empire. Good will to our neighbors means... a better profit for all!" The crowd laughed politely as she smiled. "Next question?" Aurora graciously asked as a stout man near the front raised his hand. "Miss... Rodriguez-Rourke, was it? As Vice-President of the Rossi and Company, can you tell us what is in store for the new buildings being bought at this moment?" he asked, leaning forward to catch every syllable of her answer. Without hesitation Marietta jumped onto the steps in front of the building she used for... "tax purposes". The name 'Rossi and Co. Clothing Distributors' stood out bright against the brick building, getting older by day but still as majestic of a building as it had been on the day she bought it. Flashing a smile towards Aurora the young, dark-haired woman nodded back and turned towards the reporter. "Actually, Miss Rossi herself can answer that for you," she said, and throwing a grateful glance towards Marietta, Aurora stepped back from the podium. With a practiced 'press' smile and confidence, the blonde woman stepped forward, nodding towards the men and women, some who were beginning to shift anxiously in the crowd. "Unfortunately the few businesses that we do have in mind I cannot divulge, as that violates some of the stakes I had written up in the contracts for this deal. I can, however, introduce you to this man behind me..." For a moment Marietta wheeled around and pointed blindly towards the tall man standing beside her before turning back towards the gathered people. "...Mac, who I have appointed as my lead marketing executive on this project. Once some control tests are done and we find the right demographic to be selling to, we'll know more about the businesses going into our new office building. At the moment, though, I just can't tell. It's all a secret!" Marietta said, pressing a finger to her lips in a child-like manner and gaining another round of chuckles from sea of bodies standing below her. "Unfortunately that wraps up all the available time we have, ladies and gentlemen, but I thank you for turning out. I'll be sure to contact some of your editors directly if any details change within the next few weeks." Nodding politely she slowly stepped back from the podium, watching as a majority of the crowd cleared away, grabbing their belongings and taking off on foot or by car. When at last the hub-ub had died down, all that remained was a small smattering of of the original crowd; the men and women who would know what this 'press release' was really about. "Thank you all so much for waiting," Marietta stated, stepping up towards the podium once more. "I know it's a pain in the ass that I always seem to have to make a formal press release whenever I make a new move with my 'company', but there you have it, eh? Once again, thanks for waiting and I will try to make this a short statement, as I really do have a meeting to get to." Marietta cleared her throat and then gestured towards the man standing next to her. "Everyone, this is Mac. He's been a long standing associate of mine for ages now. He's done a plethora of amazing things for my business over time. A dependable and highly capable man, I know that he would be happy to stay with me forevermore, but I feel that it's time to see if he's ready for a bigger and better challenge." "As you know, I'm quite fond of my captains, so Mac will be heading up a new division of the Detroit syndicate as my fifth captain. I have every faith that he and my brother, Leo_Rossi, will do their best to maintain the business we already have, but help to expand and improve upon it as well." "You can probably tell that the new building was purchased for him. No more smoke and mirrors act. So without further ado, I would like to present my new captain Mac and his division, the Redemption. Congratulations, Maccy. Do us RIOTers proud!" |
