The Suicide Abused Started by: McLovin on May 14, '09 01:23
I always felt that suicide is the coward's way out. They should at least let somebody else put a bullet through their head. I think that would be a more honorable way to go.

As far as people not wanting to stick around, it's their loss. A good mobster will stick around even when things don't work smooth in his crew. He would work to improve the conditions, not just jump ship. If they want things easy, let them try other crews. Any crew that offers an easy climb to important roles, is not a crew that is detined to survive very long anyway.

I think part of the problem with the ranks lower than Made Man suiciding is the fact that buying out of one's crew is never accepted, which I think is wrong. Now, I have always been loyal to every crew in my lineage, but sometimes someone will come to this world, seek refuge, and just doesn't fit where he or she ended up. I feel they should have the option, before they are made, to buy out and move somewhere else. I know people see it as a breach of loyalty, but it's not. Until you are Made, you haven't truly pledged loyalty to anyone, and sometimes people just don't fit where they are, and it is silly for them to have to suicide to move just because they made a decision based on limited information which turned sour.

Then there are other people who say that they take privileged information with them if they do that, but there's a simple answer. You shouldn't be giving privileged information to anyone under Made anyway. That have not earned that yet. And frankly, if they fit in your crew so poorly that they are willing to pay hundreds of thousands of dollars, wouldn't you rather have that and lose a member, than watch him blow his own brains out for free?

Once they are Made however, a buyout would be cause for death, even to me. Made and above, you're now part of the family, and you don't mess with that.

As he turned to leave, Mudkips tossed his card to McLovin, having is land inside his jacket pocket...

I know most people don't share this opinion. Let's talk about it sometime.

...but by the time he had pulled the card from his pocket, Mudkips was gone; a flash of light reflected off his holstered .38 Special and a puff of smoke from a fresh cigarette the only signs he had ever been there at all...

I would advise you to be more careful with this card slinging, Mr. Mudkips. Some folks around these parts don't take too kindly to strangers flipping cards at them over and over and over.

I find it sad that one thinks it is okay to suicide to leave a family to try again. When I first got here I read somewhere "Choose your family carefully". Enough said in my mind. Most people on this game have played before as I am learning. This means they may have some insight to what a family is like. Once you pick a family and send out a request to join you should know you are making a commitment to that family and they in you. You don't like what is happening, speak to the family and get it fixed, take it up with your CL and the upper heads. Hopefully you have a Godfather or Godmother that will listen to you and help you.

Point being, you choose that family and that family accepted you. Live and love it. Dont be a baby because you didnt get something you wanted and kill yourself.

Gets down from his soap box, pulls out a smoke and looks around

You don't initially join a family, you join the crew. You join the family when you become Made. And let's be honest, most CLs will sell even a WG up the creek if they need to, whereas almost ever single one I know will protect anyone Made and above at almost any cost. Until you are a member of the family, buying out if you are unhappy should be an option.

However, that being said, most people who want to leave their crews and/or suicide, do so over stupid and selfish circumstances, and not because they just flat out don't fit, so maybe this "right" should be taken on a case by case basis.

This is a difficult topic in my eyes. There are many among us who believe that once you accept an invite your tied to the family for life. There are then those who believe that your not tied until you become made. then there are those who's bloodline hops from one crew to the next.

It's very frustrating as a family head to hear of a member commiting suicide, you think to yourself what could I have done different. Then there are those who see it as a slight on the family itself, that suicide is the selfish option. By killing oneslef you've taken a potential training aid away from one of the families hitters.

One thing that is clear in my mind is this, my life is my own. I can either chose to end it in a variety of ways, or it will be taken by another, to chastise those bloodlines who actively kill themselves to me is a waste of time. No matter what you say to someone, if they wish to end their life you will not stop them from doing so.

I will leave with this small quote

"It's your life, your body, your sister, your parents, your friends, and your partner

so you can choose what you do.

And if one day you can't rain it in,

and of your last breath you are the only witness,

Then fuck everybody else cause that is something you've got to live with"

I guess then what I see it comes down to is the RP part of the game. I personally know in RL, when you start to hang around a gang and get involved, it is considered an insult to up and leave and go hang with another gang. Behavior like that would get you shot. With this in mind, personally that is, you are part of a crew that is part of a family. So loyalty is needed. IF you are playing from a sense of RP, which I think it was intended, then this, in my mind, is consider an insult. I don't think Capone would have been very happen in RL during his time if something like this happened.

Now, that being said. The whole discussion is like beating your head against the wall, because basically if a person wants to change they will change, there is on no true consequence for this behavior.

Stands up, walks to wall, and begins beating his head into the wall.

i respect any opinion including yours Mr Mudkips,

but i think by the time we accepted by a crew or family, we are part of that crew or family. and if we are a made man or above, we are become inner or core member of that crew or family.

so the idea about wise guy and under can freely move to another crew is unacceptable in my opinion.

I understand that not many of you will share my view, and as it stands now, I am a member of Death-Knight's crew, and as such, abide by his rules gladly and proudly, and I think that is part of how I have made it to be a Made Man, especially at such a young age.

However, the last opinion I will express here is that it is disrespectful to say to a member that if they want to leave for whatever reason, and after they've resigned themselves to dying, that they must or should allow themselves to be used as target practice. If they are deciding to die, they get to choose the when and how. I do believe that if they offer themselves up to be used as practice, that is the more honorable approach, but think of it from and RP standpoint. These are people who you took in. It is not for you to decide whether or not their decision is right, you just have to accept the decisions you make. And if they choose to die, they should not be expected to be used like a beer can in a back alley. They are, after all, human.
