If I remember correctly, if i interrupted my teacher with repeated hand waiving that equated to stupid questions that would be answered by the end of the lecture if I hadda waited, I got shit on tho the full extent of the teachers vocal chords.

Now, that being said, I am repeated seeing new players spamming the G chat with stupid questions that would be answered if they COMPLETED THE TUTORIAL.

I am requesting that the chat system be shut out completely until the member closes the tutorial or joins a family. This will hopefully also deter the ad spamming as well. This will be a hidden thing, not announced by a popup saying "To turn on the Global chat, simply turn off the tutorial." to deter new members for doing what was stated prior.

Everyone has made the point to not let us contact people before they have completed jobs, well I don't wanna hear from people till' they have completed the jobs then.

Yes, lets shun new people because they ask "stupid" questions. I'm sure that will go over really well.

I'm more concerned with the, less than appropriate (be it outright sexual, over the top flirting, offensive and/or things that we used to stress were topics that shouldn't be discussed publicly), chats from seasoned members than I am newbies asking how to play.

Don't like it? Do as I, and others do, put on your big kid underoos and ignore it or guide them to somebody (Helpdesk possibly? CLs/Hands/Sponsors?) who is more than willing to answer their questions. Nobody is forcing you to help them.

Heh, I knew "content of G chat" AKA comfort level wold instantly take an absolutely unrelated precedence on my part of the suggestion menu.

The point of this topic is not about content, it is about laze and conduct of new members.

We have been strictly forbidden for contacting people outside of the job system and, in my opinion, if they cannot read and follow the tutorial, do jobs and then contact me, then I don't want to hear about questions they should be figuring out themselves. These questions should be answered by the CL or sponsor that picks them up AFTER the completion of the jobs and after they complete the tutorial. And you can ask anyone I have sponsored in the past, I have been very good to them, now or not. I like my posts to have a light feel, but if you want to get serious, stay on topic.

I would have to agree with Coraline on the new player asking questions freely, I thought the entire idea of having new people join this game was to be able to teach them the proper way to play.

Yes they can be annoying when they pop in with random questions without completely following the tutorial but that's the entire reason we have G1 and G2 realistically so those who have just joined and are yet to join a family have others they can turn to and ask questions, It just so happens that G1 is the place where most chat takes place so the new players will gravitate there naturally, because they see the most activity happening there.

I think to shun them and lock them away from being able to ask even the stupidest of questions would be wrong and would discourage them from playing the game further or cause them to go out and do something irrational and dangerous to not only themselves but to those around them..

Oh. My. God. Dodge. First of all, your grammar is horrendous. This was actually painful to read. Second of all, quit your bitching. Everyone learns things differently. Not everyone can follow a tutorial. I personally find it easier to grasp a concept if I talk with someone about it rather than just read some pre-scripted text. More often than not, if I find a game with a tutorial, I have a tendency to just leave the game to find something else rather than suffering through another tutorial. More and more seasoned members leave this game as it is. Do not try to keep new ones out or we will only continue to shrink as a community.

I'm pretty sure I said that I ignore it.... but there is also a HUGE difference between people asking MR related questions and pretty graphic content that has nothing to do with the game. 

And with that, Dodge, it is on topic. You suggested that newbies be blocked because their questions are spam. I countered that is not the case and if you are worried about spam you should be more concerned with the other things being said. The fact you knew it would be brought up goes to show it is on topic, because if it wasn't the thought wouldn't have crossed your mind ;)

I am failing to see where people have strictly forbidden people from contacting people outside of the job system. If anything THAT right there should be a valid argument to not block them from speaking in chat. The chat is a great place to get rounded out answers from multiple people and it's usually quicker than mailing and waiting for a response.

Hmm.. Not sure what caused that, but it makes me unhappy.

I agree with both Caroline and Sunshine in that we're here to help new members. I really don't think they know any better, and I'm more than happy to help them if they haven't yet found a crew/family and these chats should be an avenue for new members to actually get assistance in real time, rather than waiting for a response from helpdesk.

I also think it's not that of a regular thing to be worrying about it. If they were in crews, and started asking the general population questions then you'd just direct them to their C chat or sponsors. Since they aren't in a family yet, I don't see the harm in helping them in G1 and G2, and I actually like to when I can.

I'm simply recommending that it be hidden to force them into the tutorial, what the fuck is so wrong with that, I'm in no where shape or form bashing them. I'm not asking for MRs philosophy on life, your supposed to agree or disagree. if you disagree DISAGEE THEN DIAGREE

I've played games in the past where you had to reach a certain rank or join a family to be able to talk in their public chat on game (not irc). I didn't like it. I wanted to ask questions, simple ones, but I wasn't able to. It can get a bit discouraging reading through a help forum or being hand held through a tutorial when you are just trying to get one thing done and you can't figure out how to. I like that our game chat here is open to everyone and doesn't require a certain rank or family qualification to chat in it. 

Like Coraline said, chat is simple to ignore.

Big_Dodge please don't take it as a personal attack, you opened up a forum of discussion, the majority just seems to disagree at this point, I understood your first post even with the display problems it posted with, I disagree with it for it seems the same reason others do, they like myself, are just openly stating why they disagree.

I really don't see the need to start using vulgarities. I'm sure that if I just came in and said "disagree" you'd have a tantrum about that as well. So I chose to give my reason on why I disagree, there is nothing wrong with what I did. You also did kind of bash them, calling the questions they ask stupid and liking them to a student with no patience that should be yelled at. Pretty harsh if you ask me.

One of your main backings for wanting this change was because of restrictions on contacting new members, you have yet to provide insight on this. As far as I'm aware there is no rule that states this. If there is please inform Batiatus that his RH Kaboom is breaking this rule, as she contacted me without me doing a job for him. Tsk tsk. I have a feeling though that this isn't a rule, and your only reason for pushing for this change would be deemed invalid.

LOL I obviously disagree. If you want others to post their responses, then they will post their reasons also. If you want people to be open to reading your suggestion in it's entirety, then be open to reading other peoples responses with their reasons and whatever the fuck else they want to add to their response.

Well I would like to ask what IS wrong with asking questions in the first place, whether new or not so new players.  Did EVERYONE here in MR learn everything from the tutorial alone?  Or from wiki?  Or did maybe just maybe they asked someone somewhere sometime a question?

In my personal experience, I have asked LOTS of stupid questions in my opinion, but to those who actually cared to help me they were not stupid, just questions I needed to ask in order to further my learning of the game. 

Now I won't copy the section for you because I am sure the thread is in public forums and a mere click away.  This is in reference to your comment on "not contacting until the new people complete the job boards" -- that isn't word for word but the font errors were too awful to copy.

Since sponsors are free to contact new members, and the global chat is open for everyone to use, who has the right to limit (or request to limit) anyone else on who is allowed to chat there?  There were comments made in reference to the existing topics that take place there, and you feel that it does not have any bearing on this suggestion thread when you are giving the suggestion to limit who can use the chat in the first place because of what they say (asking questions).

I have been given help by too many people to list here, and to me that is what the game is about.  Helping others, not shutting them out.

I actually agree with this suggestion.  Not to shut out noons but to deter spamming.  I've seen other sites don't his as well for that exact reason.  Spammers.  As for shutting out noobs I don't think that's possible.  If they read the tutorial they will know how to mm Lmao.  Plus even the dumbest of people can read "Click here to turn off tutorial".  So not to worry they will still be able to ask their questions.  If they can't read thee words ^, then they are too dumb to play anyway until they learn to read.  I rather have a site with 30 smart members than 1000 ignorant people.
