Charity, Why not Always Started by: Shadwek on Mar 24, '15 10:17

Hi All,

I was thinking, why is Charity Stopping ?

Why don't we start a Charity Campaign every month. So it is an ongoing thing. Every month a different campaign, and the money is donated towards a certain cause.

1) To An Orphanage.

2) Water Supply in Somalia.

3) Natural Disasters survivors.

There are many international organizations that can use such money. and players should be able to donate in credits or direct cash game. (Which will later be transferred as a real money based on the value of each credit, and the market price for those credits)

Only the admins can say this for sure, but I know keeping track of all funds for charity and keeping them separate isn't always easy. It can become a hassle to make sure that charitable contributions aren't combined with business income. I think participation would have to be high enough for the admins to make it worth the time and energy that would go into keeping things legal on the business end of things.

This is one of those things that can get annoying real quick.  For example, today I got another 3 letters from various charities I've donated to last year asking for even  more donation - and I am so turned off about them now, because I can't go a month without another mail from them begging for more money... This devalues my opinion about all charities - all because of the inconvenience and greed of a few.

I don't want to become just like them.  We are a very charitable company with very giving users, however, if every month I was knocking on your door to give to X, then Y, then Z and so on, I think that when a great reason to give comes up - it will be watered down among all the other things from every previous month we pushed.

When we take up every cause that comes our way, we are spread too thin, which I think will only hurt the charities in the future that we may really want to get on board with.

To fill your charitable itch, may I recommend Kiva.

Its a microlending site that provides micro loans for small time entrepreneurs who live in countries where business loans are just not available from traditional banking institutions, it empowers these people to start/grow their small business with a loan of $25.  The greatest thing is, you get paid back your $25, then you loan it to someone else.  That same $25 is helping person, after person, after person, after person.

As you can see, I've loaned out $3,575.00, and I've lost a grand total of $17.57 from defaults, and $5.62 from currency exchange. Every other single dime has come back. (Everyone is pre-screened, which is why of the 142 loans I've done on this account, every single one of them has paid back accept for one guy from the South Sudan who only paid back the first 1/3rd)

Anyway, if you care to join Kiva, http://www.kiva.org/invitedto/mafiareturns/by/MafiaReturns join the MR team :)  There is 109 of us on the MR team and between all of us, we have done 254 loans!

Squishy, I might disagree a little with you.

Helping others is an ongoing thing, that might be done on a regular base with small amounts of money even 1 dollar.

When starting a month campaign , you don't have to keep sending messages to people, one message would be good at the beginning of the month, it doesn't matter how much u collect, it is like the cause of the month, some people might respond to a cause and not to another. which is still ok.

Anyways, it was just an idea, maybe we can do a poll about it and see how does people accept the idea :)
