The tall, thin frame of Mr. Gaunt emerges out of the shadows of the back alleys, and into the light cast from a lamppost on the nearby street corner. Propping himself against the metal pole, he lights up a cigarette, takes a drag, then begins to speak aloud. I've heard a lot of talk about rogues, honor, and opportunities around here these days, and it's got me to thinking...a dangerous pastime, I know. You see folks, my opinion is that everyone wants a chance around here. Everything we do around these streets is for a reason, and I have to question the motives of your everyday mobster. First off, why do we step forward to talk about these issues? Let's not play dumb, there's a lot of pressure on people to publicly step forward and say something. We all know the "hot topics", and I've mentioned a few above, but for the mostpart, nobody is imparting any additional wisdom on us that we don't already know. Is it wrong of me to think that a lot of folks come to the streets just to speak about something...anything? Secondly, why is it we feel pressured to make ourselves known on these streets? If, in fact, we have nothing new to express, why bother to open our mouths? Could it be that we are trying to be noticed for our own glory? Are we all wanting to prove ourselves worthy of some greatness? Sure, occasionally we get a unique speech, which, I might add, usually stimulates my interest around these parts, and in my opinion, thats a good thing. In fact, I believe that the effort put into speaking is generally good. My point in asking these questions here is to understand the motives of those that publicly speak. Gaunt, taking another drag off his cigarette, stops speaking, saunters over to the nearby wall of a nearby wall, and waits for someone else to speak. |

| I could just say; why are there always these threads complaining about other threads that are in the street. Theres always going to be unoriginal speeches no matter how many different crazy people we have around here, though the only way to think of something new to say is to have read all the threads that are about first. Its always hard coming out to the street with something new, you don't know what kind of reaction you're going to get. Though i always think it's worth a shot. If i find something original to say ill come straight out and say it, until then, i'll just say whatever the hells on my mind. | |

As Luke trudges through the streets, lost in thought, VonGaunt's speech catches his attention. He pauses long enough to hear him out, considering his own motives. Then, when no one else seems willing to speak, he approaches. I'm a simple guy and I've got simple motives. As of yet, I have not once posted for glory or just for the sake of posting. If I see something that interests me, I'll comment on it, if not, I'll pass. Occasionally a topic will raise a lot of passion in me if I feel strongly for or against it, and I'll speak accordingly. While I do hope to one day rise above the average mobster, I'll do that when I think I'm ready. Right now, I can honestly say I don't have enough experience or confidence to reach any higher. I also don't really want to be noticed, because that sort of thing can get you killed early in this thing of ours. Having nothing more to say, he disappears into the crowd once more. Though he keeps out of sight, he keeps an open ear to any speakers that may follow. |

Gaunt leans forward looking at the man that just spoke. I quite agree with you Mr. Petrelli. Originality is difficult. What is there that hasn't already been said? Of course, it was not my point to touch upon which speeches are unique and which aren't. Again, I wonder the motives behind these speeches. Does everyone that comes to these streets really wish to debate these topics, or are they here to fulfill the wishes of those that place an importance on street presence? Are we all just trying to be noticed? Do we all have goals above and beyond the duties we perform for our current leaders? |

To be perfectly honest, everyone here is lazy. Nobody here will start role playing. Sometimes you can't tell, if someones just normally speaking or playing there mafia role, sometimes i don't even know which I'm doing myself, but we should all be role-playing everything. That way we will have new stuff to say and new things to bring to the streets. Theres forums out there with the likes of wrestling, harry potter etc.. With kids making a better effort than us... Correct me if I'm wrong, but do you not think that everyone here basically ignores RP threads, bar a few and I'm not blaming any one person because i, myself do it, but only because of the fact that everyone else ignores RP threads so it isn't a way to get through to the public. |

Gaunt listens as the man speaks again, then responds in turn... I suppose we're all here for different reasons. I think you're starting to understand the point of my conversation. Some are here to tell stories, some here to destroy the community, some to argue irrelevant points and others for family and friends. Again, I'm not here to judge one's reasons, however, I am curious to know the intentions of those that speak. As nobody has asked me my intentions for speaking here, what anyone chooses to read into my "first line" (I'll assume the subject title is being questioned), is subjective. I accept that, just as I accept anyone's opinions, regardless of their relevance to my speech. The man steps back and takes another long drag of his cigarette. |
