Recent Events:

February 23, 2009: Sorth Korea says North Korea has a new type of ballistic missile capable of reaching northern Australia and the Pacific island of Guam.

April 5, 2009: North Korea launches a rocket carrying what it insists is a communications satellite, but the move draws accusations it was testing a long-range missile. The UN Security Council responds by imposing further sanctions.

April 14-25, 2009: North Korea announces move to quit six-party nuclear talks and re-start operations at partly-disabled Yongbyon. It also expelled UN inspectors, and later announced that the reprocessing of spent fuel rods has begun.

April 29, 2009: Angered by criticisms over its rocket launch, the North threatens to conduct nuclear test and test long-range ballistic missile unless the UN Security Council apologises for imposing sanctions.

May 7-12, 2009: Special US envoy on North Korea visits Asia, saying Washington is ready for direct talks with Pyongyang. But the North dismisses the offer as useless, citing the US' "hostile policy".

May 25, 2009: North Korea confirms successful underground nuclear test, raising the explosive power and level of control of its nuclear device. The test raises regional tensions and draws international condemnation.

June: North Korea proposes reopening talks with South on Kaesong factory park, which is run by South Korean companies, employs North Korean workers and is based just north of the border.

Also besides the Nuclear power: North Korea sentences two US journalists Laura Ling and Euna Lee to 12 years hard labor for allegedly crossing the border illegally.

UN Security Council votes unanimously to impose tougher sanctions on North Korea. Pyongyang responds by saying it will view any US-led attempt to blockade the country as an "act of war" and that it plans to "weaponise" its plutonium stocks.

Knowing what any county can do, US had nuclear bombs and this time North Korea is not as easy as Iraq, US knows if they attack, shown over a million man army in Korea and can fight back hard and possible with Nuclear Bombs.

I think this whole thing just shows what the world can do and is willing to do to keep weapons out of the hands of a corrupt government. As the world watches, I can't wait to see what the US and the UN will do, after all its the US we hear about over this.

Well I am from Canada and IF for any reason Canada felt a threat to the point were we had to go to war to protect our country, I would sign up asap without even thinking about it. I love my county!

It's very difficult to make an objective judgment about the potential threat, because the information we receive from our government and media is obviously biased. I am old enough to have lived through much of the "Cold War" with the former Soviet Union. They were painted as an inferior political system run by corrupt and power-hungry dictators.

Of course, if you were over in the Soviet Union at the time, you surely heard many awful things about the NATO countries.

So...maybe N. Korea is run by a lunatic...or maybe it's just more paranoia, fear-based politics, and ethnocentric world political view.

The bottom line is, we all need to just chill the fuck out. It's highly unlikely that North Korea is going to start an unprovoked attack against any world power. It is also completely illogical to suggest the Western countries should be the only ones with nuclear capabilities. We have no right to rule the world. It's time to evolve and let other cultures develop as they will.

The people in N.K are affects by the propaganda. They know nothing about the world nor even the evil deeds committed by their political leaders. Man, I agreed with ya too. McGeez, your statement shows just how unaware people are when they are being manipulated by their own governments. You say that the people of North Korea are subjected to propaganda, then you refer to their leaders as "evil". That is surely a perspective that is taught to you by the information and norms of your own country.

Then you go on to talk about "other countries" who pose a nuclear threat, while suggesting that we should send a few nukes over there and wipe them clean. Wouldn't a country that preemptively nukes another country be the REAL nuclear threat? If your country did that, THEY would be the nuclear threat. You should feel lucky that no one decided to nuke your country simply because they were testing nuclear weapons back in the day. For almost 50 years, the U.S. and the Soviet Union both had nuclear weapons aimed at each other, but both countries were sane enough to know that any first attack would spell death for both countries. I take solace in the fact that you will never be a world leader with the power to make such decisions.

Why do we feel we are holier than another country, in that we should be allowed to hold certain nuclear weapons, and they shouldn't? Are we superior beings? God's chosen people?

I will absolutely support any movement that denies other countries the right to develop weapons technology, once we get rid of our own weapons. Until then, it is hypocrisy, paranoia, and an ethnocentric false belief of ethnic superiority.
