The thin, frail frame of a man stumbles out of a nearby bar, takes roughly eight steps, then pauses to lean against a nearby wall. Fumbling through his pockets, he finds the smokes he was looking for, and removes a thin cylinder stick from the box. After lighting it, and taking a drag, the man begins to speak... So...they say never to begin a sentence with the word "so". So what? Rules, rules, rules... The man shakes his head around a bit, then enhales another long breath full of smoke, before speaking again... So, I've heard a lot of talk lately about the problems of this world. Sure, the streets are dead these days. We've seen more than our share of rogues and wars. We've all got ideas on how this world should change to benefit each of us. Complain, complain, complain... So, what's the deal with the stagnancy? Well, I'll give you this guy's thoughts. The man pauses to take another puff off his cigarette, then continues... You see, as I see it, what is there to motivate anyone to spice this place up? I mean, we have a few hundred mafiosi running around these here streets that are expected to do nothing more than earn, earn, earn. For these few hundred folks, we have four crews. Four. Now, how the leaders of this world want to do business is their business, but with only four crews, how many opportunities for someone to earn responsibility is there? If nobody earns responsibility, how do they earn more responsibility, and finally earn trust, respect, and be rewarded for that hard work? So, as is, we're stuck with the same folks being handed the same responsibilities and rewards based upon the trust their lineages have earned in days past. Sure, I understand that if you're a leader, you put those you trust in positions around you, and I agree with that idea. I believe though, and this is more to my point, that if we, the crewleaders, and the mafiosi of this world were to take the time to train up these new folks, take an active interest in their well-being, and give them chances to earn trust and responsibility, then we could turn this world around. If all we're here to do is nitpick, critique, humiliate, and ignore those that do put an effort into this world, no matter what you think the quality of that effort is, then what is to keep people from giving up and eventually leaving? These are just a few thoughts of a simple man. VonGaunt, upon completion of his speech, shuffles his feet a bit, and begins moving towards a nearby bench. |

You know nothing of my family and how it works. The same family lineage are not being given the same jobs. I do not use family lineage as a guide to whether the person deserves a crew. ProphetOfDoom will vouch for that, A RH to me after I knew nothing of him or his previous family names. Also, every rank is given responsibility with it. Wise Guys are not just people who earn money, they are given that rank as they have shown me they deserve to do so. As such I give them tasks to carry out. The ranks after also carry jobs attached to them that I do not wish to disclose. You bring a sweeping statement to the streets that we give new blood no chances yet are far off the mark in my eyes. |

Not everybody humiliates and ignores, i would like to think theres only a select few. I know that when someone who isnt as smart comes out with there own little poster asking questions, maybe just a few lines long theres alot who will critisize and make fun off, which should be frowned upon, if the person is actually trying. I know that if i was in a position of power myself, this is something i would try expose in our world. Fair enough we don't enjoy when people don't make the effort but then again some people have to be taught the proper ways, they just cant come in to this thing of ours and be expected to be excellent straight away, i know i wasnt. Just to let some of you know, before you try to make fun of those less educated than yourself, you could be hurting that persons confidence and they could start to shine if you just let them carry on and help them. Think about that before you judge. |

With all due respect, I don't believe I made a sweeping statement. I didn't single out any one family or leader, and haven't accused any family or leader of doing anything. However, to suggest that this problem doesn't exist anywhere, never has, or ever will, just wouldn't be true. My point, was to serve as a reminder to remember the little fellow, and prop him up. If you, Scandia, are doing that, then kudos to you. Not everyone does. On a daily basis I see folks being ridiculed, mobsters complaining of boredom, and mafiosi leaving this world because they feel like they've been overlooked. That right there is the plain and simple truth, and until folks start realizing this point, then the complaining, whining, and eventual departures from this world won't end. |

To be honest, if people are leaving out of boredom or because they feel they've been overlooked, let them go. Those are the ones who aren't patient or determined enough to work towards something over a period of time. Nothing will ever be served on a silver platter to anyone, no matter how hard they have worked. We will never eliminate the bias of placing those closest to us in favourable positions because, to put it in an incredibly cheesy way, this is the mafia and this has everything to do with trust. I agree that hard work should be rewarded and it often is, just in small portions. A weeks hard work won't earn someone a dazzling promotion into the higher status of the criminal world. A weeks hard work will buy your boss a nice new car. You shouldn't expect anything in return until the boss decides it's time to give you something in return. This is something people need to grasp. |

I couldn't agree with you more, and yet we see folks two days old being given such responsibilities frequently. What I've addressed is the concerns of others. Personally speaking, my boss, has put a lot of faith and trust in me, and I've been rewarded for my deeds in various ways. This isn't true of everyone however, as it's been a real complaint of many a mafioso. Now, to your point about letting folks go, I'd disagree. Living in this world is a choice we make, and there are other worlds like it. I know I'd rather have a larger community, because with a larger community comes more action. Are we really so lazy that we can't take a few moments to address the concerns of our world? Are we really so disinterested in anyone else that we can't take the time to put a bit more effort into making this community a bit better? All I'm saying is, if you take the time to train up a few of these new folks, give them responsibilities, and give them a chance to earn their way around here, not only will you have a more intelligent community, but a larger one. |

Yes, Von you are correct. However, we DO have to train them up now don't we? It is not all that easy. We are working on it, at least in the honourable organization. We have taken great consideration to those who are new to these shores and are doing our best to accommodate them. However, alot of learning in our world is set by example I think. That is pretty much how I've become who I am today, by studying the great mafioso before me and above me. Just because it isn't happening as quickly as you may want it to, it is happening. Progress is a slow process, it may pick up every once in a while but over time it usually not very speedy. We are growing as a society and growth is painful. There are many pros and cons to this, and we all have to work together to weed out the problems by providing solutions. I myself answer any new mafioso's questions readily, daily I might add as well, and even though it can be difficult I do it with a smile because it will help this world to become a greater place. My suggestion to any Mafioso out there who may be hearing my words and want to learn more about our ways, I suggest you find another man or woman in our world that is willing to help you. Find yourself a mentor. It will do wonders. And to those who may be experienced who are not already doing so, offer to help. Don't shun them because they are new, help them because we want to grow as a society. If you have knowledge, lend it and help out your new brothers and sisters. |
