Almost two years ago someone I hadn't seen in almost five years was in a severe car accident, had suffered brain damage at the base of the brain connecting to the spinal cord, and was in a coma.

Growing up he had been my best friend and during the university years we inevitably drifted apart.

It was devastating.  I cannot imagine what it would have been like had it been my sister in that car instead.

God's light on all of you in your time of need and questioning.  I'll keep you in my prayers.

P.S.  I know that praying is hard.  It is awkward and messy and most times desperate... but it works.  They were sure that my friend was going to die, that he'd be in a vegetative state, on life support and then eventually slip away.  But we prayed for miracles.  And then... he woke up.  Medically speaking he should be dead or seriously handicapped.  I saw him not that long ago, I guess his mum told him I came to the ICU even though we hadn't talked in so long... he's going to university in the fall, applying for financial aid, getting his life together.  If I hadn't known him so well before the accident, I don't think I'd even know it had happened.  I'd never suspect he was the least bit different... because really, I see the miracle.

I pray and wish for the fast recovery of that person...God will help them at this time of hardship.

Firstly i'd just like to thank you all for your messages of good will and your prayers. Your messages have been extremely comforting at this time. I held my sisters hand today and told her about all the people who were wishing her well. Today she opened her eyes for a few seconds and was able to whisper a few words. She is still paralysed but according to her doctor this might pass with time and reabilitation.

A bit of background (copied and pasted from Northern Lights HQ so that I don't have to repeat myself!)-

"On Wednesday of last week my long suffering sister aged 22 underwent surgery to remove growths on her brain. She is currently paralysed on her left side, can't open her eyes and is having to receive lots of blood transfusions.

She played here when I first started (PhantomIcarus - her first name), about 7+ years ago and always understood why I played and also could see why I became obsessed at various points in my life, whereas other people, namely my parents thought I was crackers. Her life is hanging in the balance at the moment and im struggling to cope with it.

She was born with spinabifida but has had all sorts of complications through her life (heart, lungs, kidneys...you name it, and now her brain) Well over 70 operations later we're at this point and im truely worried sick. I dunno why im ranting here but some of the people in this family are the best friends imaginable, we've known each other for a long time.

I guess im just asking you all to say a prayer for my sis Katie...

Oh wow Booey. My most heartfelt sympathies go out to you, your sister and your family as she goes through her recovery period. My apologies that I didn't notice this sooner, and just know that there is one more person out there who is channeling every good thought they have towards your sister and family at this moment in time.
