| Bribe not to Witness | Started by: LouisGato on May 03, '15 16:43 |

All of the detail of this suggestion is theoretical and used for example purposes only, thanks for reading and for your interest. Something I found in my old threads, been a couple of years since so thought I'd try again. Short Version: Bribe people not-to-witness a killing. Long Version: Someone has pissed you off, you want them dead. There's so much red tape however that it'll be difficult to push the button on them without getting your own ass tanned. What if you could pay off the witness? It'd cause all sorts of hearsay and rumors, there would be an inquiry, questions and meetings held to find out who had a motive to make the kill. Entire cities would come together to keep the peace and deduce who took the shot. Maybe you'd be sat in that room, brazenly denying everything? Still think you can get away with it? Then read on... It'd work like so, you want to wack someone, The option is there to bribe the witness/es to"not see" who did it. The cost of the bribe though would be heavy as if it was declined then you'll be revealed to the witness. Age/Level of character + how much you want to be hidden Age/Level of character would be the initial hit. 10 days/Level 20 = 1,000,000 20 days/Level 30 = 5,000,000 30 days/Level 35 = 10,000,000 and etc. How much you want to be hidden would depend on what you pay to hide Your name isn't revealed as a default. Pay to hide your rank Pay to hide your city Pay to hide your crew Pay to hide everything The cost would mount up and you must really want this guy dead to pay to silence whoever sees your kill. Depending on what you choose to hide would create issues in itself, a hit devised by a member revealing his city would create tension, even if the head of the city didn't auth it. Could you take a bribe and not have the killer revealed? Think of all that money... how would you hide it?? Some example witness statements based on the shooting of LouisGato by AlNeri. AlNeri has only paid for the level/age of LouisGato and made no other attempt to hide his actions. You witnessed someone WACK! LouisGato. You have been offered a bribe of $20,000,000 You accepted the bribe. The killer appeared to be a Don from TylerDurden's crew in Delaware... You WACKED! LouisGato. The witness accepted the bribe, but knows your rank, city and crew... Meanwhile however, AlNeri's crewleader receives a notification... Rumor has it someone in your crew accepted a bribe... Or a random city resident... Rumor has it someone in your city accepted a bribe... The possible scenarios could go on, but the system would effectively add a little bit of cloak and dagger to the game. It also gives all ranks and levels of members some element of control, through offering or accepting bribes. Want to take someone out without causing full scale mayhem? Vote for bribes! Thanks for reading. |

Sounds awesome, I love the dynamic it adds to the game. It would just have to be implemented correctly in my opinion. |

Very interesting idea, Louis. I've got a sensible voice in my mind that says "Please, no!", but like Draye, I believe this can add a lot of intrigues to the game. I already have a load of different situations that could go down and their various outcomes when bribes are offered. Some thoughts after reflecting on your idea. - When a witness denies the bribe, he gets some economical power to view the info and blackmail the shooter. A fairly dangerous game to play though as that must reveal the witness identity or one of their affiliates. Can be done now already too, but in this case the chances of success seem higher because of the bribe being offered anyway. - A CL/GF should get the notice that someone in their crew/district took the bribe. If some random person got it, it adds too little drama in my opinion. - I'm kinda worried of some first time Gangster getting a 20 mill+ bribe, because their loyalty probably isn't that high anyway. There's less morals involved for that person. If only Made Man+ would get the bribe offer, that would put more tension on things. - Both killer and witness can do some investigation towards the other party anyway with help of 60 second list and the locals list. Somehow during the transaction (shooting, bribe, 5 mins after) both parties shouldn't be able to see them on the locals list. In character, in position I'd say I rather not see this happen as I feel this could do more harm than good. As a neutral player, I think it's interesting and can add some spice to things. As long as there always remains the option to deny the bribe, we can't have wealthy people buying anonymity. There's a lot to say on this. I'm curious what other people think about your suggestion. |

I like this a lot. It take's money out of the game which would allow Squishy to bring more things in that make it. For every Yin a Yang, and something like this that allowed for such large amouts of money to be retaken by the system would open the gates for the Brothels, and any other game function's recently discussed liked the bid rigging construction racket that was brought up. https://mafiareturns.com/comm/thread/572998#99837420 Making more options to take our money out of the game besides gambling where we can reacquire it will leave squishy with the chance to ad little fun things that can add realism and cash flow. He seems to be all about implementing things if they can be balanced out and made fair for all. In Squishy's OWN words.

As you have mentioned, this feature would be very expensive, and therefore – it would be a calculated and considered attack on a 'significant' target. Information regarding the death of an important character could well be priceless – which in my opinion, would make the implementation of this feature a mistake. I believe it would be far from effective. Allow me to expand. I would assume the majority of serious players would decline the bribe. If we imagine LouisGato was a well-known, established figure in the criminal underworld – and I happened to receive a bribe notification regarding his recent death – I would simply contact the crew leader of the deceased, who I’m certain would compensate me for coming forward. He/She would likely match the price, at minimum. There is already a technique of killing individuals without getting caught that involves no money; but team-work, planning & a degree of luck. There's also the more straight-forward method of putting a significant price on the head of another player, with the hope of Tyler trying to claim the bounty if it hasn't been bought off within 24 hours. I also find the role-playing aspect rather confusing. At the moment, players receive a WS notification anonymously – the killers do not know for certain who happened to see them. This makes logical sense. This feature suggests that once the killer has committed the murder; he discovers a witness, and then proceeds to approach them with a bribe of X amount. Yet, despite this interaction, the witness isn't informed who the killer is? Is that correct? |

I remember a similar suggestion to this a while ago, I've had a cursory look but I can't find the original suggestion :( |
