on the achievements tab there is a gauge for voting...can anyone shed any light on this for me?

At the top of your page, you will see "+" signs appear where you can vote for MR on game rating sites (they reappear every so often depending on the site in question and how often it allows you to vote). This greatly helps the game attract more users and comes with a reward of cash and experience points.

The achievements mean you get further rewarded for lots of voting.
