Stumbling slightly and nearly dropping her bottle of rum, Kates leans against a lamppost and grabs a businessman's fedora from off his head. Dropping it on her own, she takes another dram from the bottle and gives a contented sigh.

As a small army of BGs approach, with a CL and RHM somewhere in the middle, Kates steps back to make way. The parade of BGs pushes you, along with several others, out of the streets and off the side. You find yourself pushed up against Kates in the confusion- the rum-soaked potency of her breath nearly overpowers you for a minute, but her intoxicatingly (and intoxicated) earnest smile makes up for it. As she steadies herself against the lamppost and takes another swig, she presents you with a question.

What's the perfect RHM, eh? These people do so much- they don't always get the credit they deserve.

So what are the qualities you would value most in one, if you were running your own crew? Loyalty? Tap-dancing?

And who's the best RHM you ever saw?

Everyone knows RHM do all the work. We should call them CrewRunners. That way you have a CrewLeader and a CrewRunner. The Leader makes all he decisions and the Runner does all the work. Sounds like a plan to me!

Ow, and best RHM I ever saw was Sayyid, hands down.  Unless you go back to the old days and it would have to be Apple, hands down.

This is a great discussion topic, Kates.

I believe I have the perfect RH right now in Kizzy, as she shares the same views as I in how we run our family, is supportive of all my decisions, and takes the time to voice her opinions if there is a concern on her part. She is a great communicator, and has a very likable personality that draw people to her. One thing you don't want as a leader, is someone who will just yes you to death, you are looking for someone who can share an independent viewpoint that allows you to assess your own prior to making a final decision. For these very reasons, I couldn't think of anyone else who I'd want to serve as my RH.

As for the past, one of the best RHs my bloodline every had was my great grandfather's good friend, Yellowgil. He was a man of great knowledge, respect, and experience. We shared many good times together, even if at times he put his life at risk by shooting at himself and posting his misses in the family coffee shop. He also shared the same qualities as Kizzy, and was a loyal friend to me. I understand his bloodline did some great things prior to my arrival back on these shores, and I would be thrilled if his son came back and would contact me upon returning.

Without a doubt, the best three RHM I have ever worked with/for are "Numbers4Friendship," "Homozotz," and "greenleaf."

These three were noble men who inspired their families and led by example. They were always quick to help a younger family member and were solid sources of wisdom for their respective leaders.

With both of these RHM I have mention, qualities were possessed that you hardly ever find in individuals these days. I'm talking, willing to die so that the boss lives. I'm talking, able to make decision at spare moments without thinking, "maybe I should wait on the boss or maybe I should give them a call first". I'm talking, knowing what to do at all times and as a boss you trust them to make those decisions. You can't say that for everyone.

As you all can see, I made a bad judgement on someone I thought I could trust. Now look at them, they're swimming the long blue waters.

Sunkist, my RHM, who should have been my lead guy from the beginning has these qualities I speak of. Those qualites that allow me to take long vacations and visit my homeland Jamaica, enjoying the fruits of my own private gardens filled with fresh greens.

I've been around a long time and very rarely have I come across these qualities. To be honest, most RHM, not pointing fingers, are in it just to acquire their own families. Which I think is not the proper reasons and not the person you want watching your back.

I've had one in my own camp, so I feel I have the authority to speak on that matter.

Marietta approaches the small crowd and smiles at the topic matter. Stepping forward when there was a lull in the conversation she nodded her head politely to the other speakers and viewers before sharing her own opinion.

The most important quality in a Right Hand man has to be dedication. Sure, loyalty is great. As is trust. But if you have a Right Hand who's loyal and trustworthy that can only take you so far. You need a visionary. Someone who's not afraid to pull up their sleeves and just get the work done.

I, in my life and my time as leader, have seen many Right Hands and have had many Right Hands. Of all that I've witnessed I've seen exemplary Right Hands from other crews; it was no coincidence to see that the Right Hands who were out in the Streets, getting their name out and spreading a positive reflection onto their family were among the best I've seen. Those who are prompt and effective in business matters with other cities are also keepers. While I cannot think of any specific names at the moment, I'm sure once my old age subsides and I can properly recall some of them I'll gladly speak up again.

As far as my own Right Hands go, I've had two that I can say I've truly appreciated having by my side. I won't name any names or stroke any egos, but these two individuals were never afraid to show up in my office every day and ask "So what's on my plate today, Boss?".

They also were not afraid to tell me how it is. I don't want a "yes man" out of a Right Hand. The best Right Hands are the ones that can tell you how it is, despite the fact that they are your Boss and you outrank them. This doesn't mean they are disrespectful, Heavens no. This simply means that they have a different opinion or view on a subject, and won't ever hold back from telling you whatever that may be. The two individuals I speak of now... it is no surprise to see that they are some of the most talented and well-received Mobsters in This Thing of Ours.

The best RHM ive had.. has to be Skull.

The best RHM ive witnessed but haven't been under in that particular family has to be.. Godmother Aurora or Rourke.

The best RHM ive worked under has to be... its a tough descion. As I can't remember that far back.

I have seen my fair share of bad RHM's. I know what it is to be betrayed by someone you trust and think is these exact things that Marietta just mentioned. One thing I know though.. Is to not let it get you down. Always look forward and think positive, never think negative. Just jump back on the saddle no matter how many times you have been knocked off it.

A Right Hand man is essential to any well managed and tightly run crew. As some of you may know I had to return home for personal reasons and almost gone a week with only my RHM to run the family and he did so extremely well. On my return i was greeted by a larger Head quarters with hard working and generous members. You'd be a fool to underestimate the role of your RHM.

I think by definition, right-hands do get the recognition they deserve, from the only people that can truly appreciate everything they do, their CL. If they weren't doing the job well, they wouldn't be RHM, barring the odd poor CL who can't see these things. Not to mention the fact that a great RH often isn't in it for the recognition or credit, they're there to get the job done.

Given that the vast majority of RHs are loyal, hard-working, and so on, the qualities that set the great ones apart are things like showing originality, initiative, enthusiasm for their family. Of course, nothing beats experience when it comes to dealing with other families in your absence.

Naming a best RHM is very subjective and most people will have different answers depending on which families they've been in. Personally, I have always preferred those that are straight talking, those that aren't a "yes man" as noted by Marietta, but also aren't short of originality. I've seen far many of these than I'm going to name, but the likes of (excuse my use of coffee shop names) Sprozza, Tallien and VJ impressed me for various reasons.

Obv. I'm the best RH ever.  Just ask Tie.  :)

I love my right hand all the time. Once in awhile I will love my left hand, too, just to mix things up a bit.

I believe the perfect RHM would be someone whom the CL knows that they can trust no matter what. That even when difficult decisions are to be made, you know that that person will make the right choice. The CL must trust this person with their family, when the CL is away on business. With some people, the power goes to their heads, and they made rash, and not so good decisions.

If I were to get an opportunity to run my own family, I would look for somebody who was loyal, put family first always, someone dedicated to the job. Someone I knew I could trust completely no matter what the situation entailed. A well rounded, hard worker.

As far as the best RHM's that my family line has seen, I don't think it would be fair to show favoritism in the streets, but these people know who they are.

Reading back through journals of my bloodline I'd say that Benjamin_Button was the best right hand man to walk these streets after his father MickeyRourke died of a fatal accident shooting a bum. He was loyal, hardworking and patient. He never turned his back on anyone and he always was fair and honest. He helped those that came to him and fought every fight with honor.

To say there has been one great right hand, I don't believe. I could say Ulysseus or even go as far as to say JohnnyAxe but what they've really done is pave a path for all of us to learn from if we expect to get to the top.
