reducing figures Started by: Nestor on May 19, '15 15:24

So, a loooong while ago there was some chatter that inflation was going to be reduced and figures were going to be more realistic. millions would turn to thousands and thousands would turn to single dollars. Everything would be just the same. Instead of selling credits for a max of 500k, you would sell them for a max of 500. Instead of making almost half a million dollars in an OC, you would make only 500. but in turn, the first BG would cost only 50 dollars, instead of 50 thousand.

We used to talk about pounds of drugs and that of course was unrealistic, but since we are sooooooo set on being 100% purely and accurately i character, what is this "units" thing you speak of? I suggest we talk about GRAMS of drug being carried.

I'm not sure why that idea was left aside but it's only cosmetic but it would add more realism to it.

Aye, I have rewritten the game to handle all the new pricing by reducing it by a whole digit.  8 million is now 800k, a 30k flight is now 3k, coke is now 750 rather than 7.5k, credits on the market are 45k not 450k.  Everything is exactly the same ratio, just "cosmetically different"

However, I have never made the commitment to it because I just know something will go wrong, heh.  So its been forever procrastinated.  The gain we get is so little, the risk is quite large, and I am just a little too chickenshit to hit the GO button and hope.  Heh maybe when I get time to go over everything and do like a quadruple check and get a few shot of everclear to build up some liquid courage - maybe then I'll man up and hit the button.

Thank you for your reply, although I'd suggest removing at least TWO zeroes if not 3. Actually, I think it's mentally easier to remove 3 zeroes than 1.

that makes the rounding a liittle less accurate on tiny amounts like $5 dollar pot would now be the equivilant of an old 100.  A 135 dollar crime would pay 100 bucks only.

we could always just do decimals rather than the rounding?

If ain't broke, why fix it?

I really don't see a problem with our current system. It has worked in the past, it would work in the future and I am sure it is working now.  I mean we could say it's to "add to the realism" but in all fairness, the RP is so loosely construed with the userbase, that it would be virtually redundant to add this.

Report Post Tip

So loosely construed??? You haven't been posting in the streets recently, have you?

I have for the last eight years, but thank you for questioning that. I was, however, talking about the game in general, not the streets. Also, it is a matter of opinion, just like yours is.

Did you skip the meaning of the word "recently" on purpose?

You said "loosely construed" and admins have been out on a mission removing any OOC slips they can find, so regardless of how "loosely construed" it may be right now, it is evident that they are definitely putting effort in being 100%, hardcore, at all times in character in public instances, so I figured that realism was high on the agenda.

I'm only debating you on something specific. You have every right to believe that the system doesn't need changing, but I also have the right to disagree with your reasoning even if I can respect your conclusion.

"I have for the last eight years", is set in present tense. I would have used the word "had" if I was talking past tense. This meaning that I still am posting in the streets (bar a week or two).

I did use loosely construed, but not necessarily all down to OOC slips with the game. I feel that the userbase as an entirety is rather loosely RPed. I believe our direction with the ways we act as so called "mafiosos" is completely skewed. This ranges from ranks, to auths, to giving so called respect to people with nice shiny badges. But alas, this is completely off topic and not something I want to explain here, it's just to let you know what I mean.

Anyway, nice suggestion, you have my rebuttal. I wish you all the best with the idea.

I hope to see this change implemented one day, but I obviously can empathize with Squishy's dilemma! It may only be cosmetic, but it's something I've wanted to see happen for many years. Can you imagine the flurry of players exclaiming: "Where haz all my monies gone?" - it would be inevitable...
Report Post Tip

I can see why you would want to implement this change; but on the other side I see nothing really wrong with the current figures except possibly a ''RP perspective'', which I can't really care about that much outside of the streets.

I will echo Zed's ''If it ain't broke, don't fix it'' sentiment here.

Report Post Tip

I find that to be a little incoherent. And please bear in mind I said "I find that". I am not trying to be insulting.

If we are trying to be RP accurate, then we can't keep it just to the streets. Any public space has to be subject to the same level of scrutiny. Why are we suffering having our threads and posts moved and deleted and then nothing else matters?
