Once again Alf takes to the streets, but this time with no story to
tell,no fables or urban legends. He in fact wants to find out the
opinion of this community this is something that his fathers before him
also wanted to know. |

It is quite simple. If you choose to want your own family NEVER EVER make yourself so good at your job that you cannot be replaced. It makes it really hard to advance your career. |

But isnt that the point. its ironic what you have just said, why should we just be average to move on on...if infact this is the case? |

Too good? Average to advance? Replace? I think you have either lost the meaning of a family or never had a true understanding of what it means. Running your own crew is a huge honor and the greatest grant of trust a person can be given. Being "too good" or "irreplaceable" is not a impediment to auth. The only impediment is the selfish desire to put yourself above the crew and to wish for your progress above the family as a whole. Crew leaders and the godfather(or godmother) will see right through the "average" nature of you and keep you where you are till you learn. |

The fact that you believe that any one member can be 'irreplaceable' or 'too good' to lose says it all. I am currently blessed with many great members. Bloodlines that have achieved things that I myself can only hope to one day emulate. Does this mean my family would fall to pieces if they decided to leave? Or should a terrible accident steal them from our world? Hell no. A family is bigger than any one member. I am speaking specifically of my own, but the same goes for any and every other family. The minute a member starts to feel they are 'that important', they fail to realise how our world works or how a family works. |

"If you speak to Aurora, I'm sure she'll confirm that I am the exception and am indeed irreplaceable." "Las Vegas would probably burn down or something without me being LHM to its Godmother. Especially after the enormous safe hands of the late BrianRourke (RIP) falling off the ball." Tallien's business card falls out of his pocket, you pick it up and notice all it says is: ~T~ |

I completely agree with Deimne. Someone shouldn't be denied the opportunity to run their own family just because they are a powerful asset. People can be replaced, it's not like an entire family will fall apart if someone leaves. However, this situation may vary from family to family, since some may have stronger members on average than others. That would certainly make it more difficult to find a replacement for that person, but I don't think that anyone can really be pegged as that much of an asset to be held back. |

I think the point has been missed, i simply asked the question that are these people who are worthy of an auth,a great honour i am more than aware of, would be not given the auth because they are too valuable with in there own structure.........for me that would be an honour, i dint say that we ARE too good. |

LilWayne listens to Alf and steps forward. If one of your members is your hardest workers and most reliable doesn't he deserve the auth? So say you do give this member permission to set up in the same city as yourself, you have a hard working and trustful Leader working beside. Or if you do give him or her permission to run their own city you have a person you can trust and know will do a great job of their own city and will not mess up. And also I have to agree with Deimne and Francesco_Nitto. |

I believe that it all depends on the the crew leader. If they are not as capable as they should be and you are, then there may be times when they don't want to let you go for important reasons. Other times it may be just because you're not ready. When thinking about your crew as family and putting them before yourself this is what usually makes a good mobster and opens your skills and makes you visible in the mafia. When you do find what you're good at others will see it too. Now what the intentions of the crew leader are when they decide if you're useless or valuable are only known to them. So no one can really say what may happen when your skills show. |

To echo Tallien's sentiments - which are actually wrong when applied to him - being the first Made Man, the people's LHM (yes, that's what the crew call me in the HQ) and by far the most important member of The Northern Lights, yes I am too good to be replaced. Aurora told me so herself. |

I think the point of this speech has forgotten one thing: You shouldn't be aspiring for your own family. You should be looking to work for the one you already joined. I agree with Theodoric when he speaks of losing the true meaning of family. Far too often people are preoccupied with their own agendas that they are the ones who shoot themselves in the foot on the path for auth to run a crew. I have never been known to hold back a good crew member who works hard, kicks ass at their job, and is impressive to both myself and the public at large. I have, however, been known to hold back some excellent candidates from getting their own crew or city- simply for the fact that they've spent most of their career gloating and bragging about why they deserve their own crew or city. People need to realize that they are working for their families, not for themselves. Without your family you are nothing- fact. As Deimne mentioned already, a crew is not based around one member. The only member of a crew that is irreplaceable is the leader him/herself, because without them the crew dies. Simple as that. In the past, I have seen some crews built around one or two people, that have fallen apart when one of those mobsters have left this world. That, in my opinion, is unfair to the dozens of other people who work inside of that headquarters. Many of the leaders today I know are of sound judgment, and are not foolish enough to build all their lives around one person, nor hang all their hopes upon them. The secret is to have a core. Recently I lost my Right Hand, who has now become a huge figurehead in This Thing of Ours. While she certainly carried a large load of my business upon her back, I did not fall apart. I realized that I had several other members waiting in the wings, ready to prove themselves. That's what a crew leader is supposed to do. Anyway, to get back to the original meaning of the speech- there is no such thing as being 'too good' at your position. You have to be good to get noticed; if you're not working your hardest or doing your best, why the Hell do you even bother showing up every day? If you're not there to work hard, I say piss off if you think you deserve your own family. If someone deserves the chance, all they need is a little bit of patience and they will be rewarded. Instead of keeping your eyes on the stars and the skies, maybe take a look around your own headquarters and continue to work as hard and as best as you can. A Boss notices the people who are active, influential and ready for the challenge of a leading role; not the people who are narcissistic and waiting to break away the first chance they get. |

There's a couple of points I'd like to make. First, just because someone has a high rank, doesn't necessarily make them leadership material. They could simply be a very skilled and dedicated mafiosi. Two, it's possible that they don't have aspirations of leadership. Maybe they prefer to stay where they are. Maybe they realize they aren't leadership material. Maybe they feel they'd do more good for the larger organization by staying where they are. |
