| What Ever Happened to Making Money? | Started by: KingBenny on Jul 16, '09 11:31 |

[KingBenny sits at a table outside his headquarters at Guiseppe's Sicilian Pizzeria in downtown Chicago, admiring his good looks in the reflection of the store front window. He appears to be deep in thought, as he has been pondering several things in his mind recently. He wonders how it was humanly possible to have become so incredibly handsome in a world full of such monstrosities and ugly schleps. He settles on the fact that he was just born that way, and moves on to a more intriguing question that has been puzzling him lately.] "You know, being in the position that I am in, I find myself speaking to a lot of the homeless here in the city. It's not the most dignified part of my daily routine, but a necessary one considering my crew is always looking for some eager young men looking to associate themselves with Our Thing. I'm always sympathetic to their plight, as I was once in their shoes." "I remember approaching Don Sidious before I got wrapped up in This Thing Of Ours. I was homeless at the time and wanted very much to be a part of La Cosa Nostra and the men I grew up admiring. I remember thinking to myself before I approached him, what do I have to offer this man that is going to make him consider me as part of his Family? So I approached him, hat in hand, and pledged my loyalty and my desire to make him, his Family, and myself a lot of money. Not only was that all I really had to offer, but it was the truth too." "Now I find myself in the very same position Don Sidious was in when I approached him as a street bum; speaking with the homeless and deciding who I want representing The Cheese Syndicate. Lots of these guys are street bums that most likely will remain street bums until they eventually graduate to dead street bum, with nothing to show for their existence other than an empty funeral parlor." "What's with this bloodlust? Everyone wants to kill someone nowadays. Over nothing. Everyone is out to avenge their father's death, most of which was brought upon by their own asinine actions. Not only that, but they want to do it under my flag. That's how you choose to pitch yourself to a Crime Boss? This is the way you think you're going to impress a business man? By vowing to take to the streets and unleash a wave of violence against other Mafioso, none of whom I have a beef with?" "I'm no saint. I've killed. I've even enjoyed killing. I've accepted death as a regular part of This Life. I've lost a lot of Friends and have attended more funerals then I care to remember. But what happened to making money? Isn't that what we got into this for? That was what drew me to This Thing. The money." "Now don't get me wrong, I'm happy to have some real stone cold killers in my crew, but they are business men as well. Of course people have their own agendas. People get killed in This Life. That's inevitable. But to approach a Boss or ANY Mafioso and trumpet your desire to kill other Made Men in our Organization as a selling point boggles my mind." "So this goes out to the bums looking for a place to call home on these streets. None of us busted our ass to get where we are today to hear about your trials and tribulations, or shield you while you plot another man's death for your own self-serving purposes. This is a "what have you done for me lately" operation. Prove yourself to be a productive member of Our Society before you go to your Boss, whoever that may be and start asking for favors and revenge. If you've got revenge on your mind, keep it to yourself. You want to commit an act that could potentially spark a riff between two crews? Add value to your crew first before looking for an OK to kill a person you have a beef with. And here's a novel idea, have a good reason. Otherwise, no one is interested. It's hard enough being this good looking. I don't need the headaches of some shitbag bum who doesn't have two nickels to rub together on top of that. [KingBenny lights a cigarette as homeless gentleman approaches the table. He exhales several rings of smoke, hoping that the man he is about to converse with doesn't ruin his morning with stupidity.] |

Perhaps part of your problem is that you are looking for new members from the ranks of the homeless. I know some people have it rough out there during this Great Depression, and it's not always their fault, but if they are not even responsible enough to pay rent in some tenement apartment in the slums of the city, then they probably will not make a responsible mafioso as a member of your crime family. As far as the discussions with the aspiring mobster prior to being admitted to the family, your question almosts answers itself. This is why we speak with people seeking jobs before hiring them. You get a feel of what you are taking on. If the guy talks about seeking revenge and whatnot, he obviously does not have a mind for the family agenda. Probably not someone with alot of promise. Hell, he doesn't even have the brains to lie to you about it. At least if he was smart enough to lie, you could hope for a change of attitude and possibly a productive member in the future. |
