Made Man? How about a reference. Started by: Absolut on Jul 17, '09 09:15

I think this is a good idea, I remember my grandfather telling me about this system and how it was a great one.
But I have a question Absolut says the made man doesn't rogue but instead he disrepects someone or another crewleader so even a Godmother or Godfather should they all be killed for references?

That's a great question LilWayne_. In my mind disrespect is a big, big thing but nowhere near as bad as roguing and killing innocent mafioso. I could see it going many ways though. I've seen people disrespect others and be demoted a few ranks to as far as death. If a Made Man did go to the streets and disrespect a Godmother or Godfather I don't think his references should be punished more than a lashing of words maybe a demotion depending on the severity.

Questions like these remind me of conversations about accidentally killing an IA sponsored gangster while thinking it was unsponsored. Or even shooting an innocent -48 that was once sponsored by the opposing crew with their tag in their quote. A lot of things going into making a life or death decision. Answering that for EVERY mistake is impossible to me but giving examples of how to go about fixing is possible.

Do you think death would be the primary punishment regardless of the severity LilWayne_?

Yes I think the Made Man and all his references should be killed for the actions of the Made man, the three reference cannot choose how the Made man acts but they have put thier full trust in him/her and believe they deserves the promotion. Also this will stop people giving them out to anyone and make they think should I put my life in the hand of this Wise guy.

I also have another question is there a limit to how many references a person can give out?

Well that is quite interesting LilWayne_, question for you. If he should for sure die should their CL as well? I mean a Made Man represents the family they're no longer an associate but part of the family.

If we went by the old system I believe there wasn't a limit, but limiting it wouldn't be a bad idea. Then again I doubt everyone would really want to vouch for everyone they're cool with. There are those hot heads out there that are unpredictable.

As my member BoabyWanKenobi said earlier, my late relatives were also in favor of this reference system that was once in effect concerning the Made Man rank. Not only did it enforce a type of accountability to the people who referenced the possible made in question, but it also promoted getting to know your fellow associates.

Maybe because my ancestors never had a problem communicating with their fellow members, but also because they were loyal to their leaders while working under them. That in itself is a lot to be said about the type of mobsters we have running around working for us.

As was pointed out earlier 'what's to stop a group of people from roguing?". Well to be honest nothing can stop anyone from roguing, but the fact that every single member involved in said rogue plan is going to die after they are found out. Whether or not they're found out before or after said plan takes place is not really a factor to a degree because either way the rogue itself and the supporters are going to die.

There are a few cities who have already established systems involved or tests they make their prospects go through. I think this is also a good thing because it brings back some sort of meaning to achieve the rank of Made in a family. The rank itself loses it's power when just any old associate can get this rank when they feel it's time. It takes away that sense of entitlement and the feeling that just because the gods put a minimum time limit on it that you should get it. It's up to the leaders to say when someone is finally deserving of this rank. I actually had a talk with my Right and Left hand men awhile back about implementing this exact rule again into Las Vegas. Whether or not we have at this point is not really of the publics concern, but that's how favorably I feel about the reference system.

Well thank you Aurora for coming out here and speaking on the reference system. I do have a question for you which was actually LilWayne_'s for me. It's quite good. Say if I mouthed off to you and disrespected you would the mafiosi that refereed me die as well or just me? (OOC: Just an example.)

To answer your questions on the way I feel about punishing those Made Men and their references for disrespect is quite simple. Made Men and above should be well versed in the ways of respect. They should know their place as a valued member of their family and in knowing that they should also know how to respect those with a more esteemed rank as well.

I would have no problem disciplining the references of a Made Man who was being disrespectful to me or any other leader out there. I think it's fitting for the references to get the same type of punishment that the Made member would get. If that punishment is a demotion then the references should also be demoted. If the disrespect is so severe that it calls for death, then so be it the others will be killed as well. This treatment will make people think twice about the values of respect in our world.

I'm all for people voicing opposing opinions, but there's a line between differing opinions and blatant disrespect. You cross that line, and you should be prepared to face the consequences.

Very well said. Personally I think there is always a way to say what you want but in a respectable way. Instead of being blunt maybe take the time and at least explain the emotions. That's just me ofcourse. So far I see more pros than cons that weigh on this decision.

We are a "community" you say and we have "rules" well I don't think it would be wrong to enforce this at all. It backs many of the beliefs and even codes we have. I'm sure it could always use fine tuning but so far the questions that oppose this have been mostly of what you do in each situation in itself.

I'm curious to see what the rest of the Godfathers and other Godmother have to say and their captains. Thank you all so far for your input, it's good stuff and I like it.

Just to clarify the 'rule' point you brought up, we as a community have an unspoken code we all strive to live by, or at least should strive to live by. These codes aren't exactly rules. As a leader and a Godfather though, we individually set rules for our members to live by on top of these codes we as a community have put into place. There's a bit of a difference in the two. As a rule, if you're a member of mine I might punish you for breaking one of the rules i've put into place. However, the Godfather or sole leader of another city probably has a different set of rules for the people who work under them. They may punish their members differently that I would mine.
