Just finished reading this for the first time and I thought it was wonderful. Any other fans of the novel out there?

My mother read this book when I was a kid, and got me a copy last Christmas. It's one of the most awesome things I've ever read. Being a New Orleans native helps, too. :D

I believe that- I heard that it was one of the most accurate depictions of the city, though I've never visited so I wouldn't know. One of the funniest books I've ever read, without a doubt.

One of my buddies was supposed to make me a book list since I'm out- but since he hasn't yet, I'll take this as a suggestion instead.  I'll try to find it out and about this weekend, and hopefully I'll be able to whip through it over the next week and tell you all what I think!

It is one of my favorites. Any book that makes me laugh out loud while reading it is a classic in my, well, book. There has been talk of a movie for some time now. I am on the fence about how I feel about that. I could not see a movie possibly doing that book justice.

And to Kate's point I have been to New Orleans and the picture the book painted of the city is great, so the book really seems to take you there.

Benny- I'd heard rumors of a Will Ferrell as Ignatius movie... to be honest, I'd be scared to see it. I think so much of the book's greatness comes from it's tone and style of writing- and from the interposing reality with the other writings by Ignatius.

Besides, I feel like they'd have to cut a heck of a lot to try to cram it into a 2 hour comedy. I just think that (like Watchmen) this is something that will lose a big chunk of what makes it special in the transition to film.

Will Ferrell, as great as I think he is, would make a horrible Ignatius. Bear with me on this, but if Ignatius were CGI, a big awful, slobbish, cartoonlike character instead of an actor playing him, and everyone else in the story was a real person, possibly it could be done right. Other than that I couldn't envision anyone as that character. Or at least not the image of Ignatius I formed in my mind. I'd rather see it left as a book but I think it's only a matter of time before Hollywood exploits it.

Don't anyone go stealing my idea either or I'll sue

While I do kind of like your idea, Benny, I think that that might come out looking a little...kidsy, if that makes sense.

I once read a book. It was called Blue Eggs & Sausage or something...ehh not sure.
