Before I begin, I will note a change from Screwing with Fate to this. It is written in first-person.
I sat in the shadows of a corner in the basement of the Washington Heights compound, which had been modeled into a bar. The only thing visible to anyone who didn't know I was there was the burning end of my cigarette and the light reflecting off of a glass of scotch. Every night, that memory raced through my mind, of running into my home to see bloodshed. I'd never forget it, even after my revenge had been taken, when I killed that fat bastard. My heart burned in agony as I remembered my son, the ring's box in his hand, with blood splattered over the wall. His girlfriend cried for hours during and after the funeral. I heard footsteps coming down the stairs to the bar. I looked up and saw Rj and Hopey, who had been making their way to the bar, but stopped at the table. "Jesus, Tony, you need to get outside," said Hopey. "I know, sir. I probably could have served the family in a million different ways, since the wife left me," I said. "I know what'll get your mind off of it. I was planning on heading to the Regulus Club, that whorehouse you took back for us, and making the guards there happy to see me in the field," said Rj. I smiled. "Yeah, I could use a good trip. I'll follow you there." I stood up and snubbed the cigarette out in an ashtray. I climbed in my Ford and followed Rj's car to the club, where we headed to the whorehouse. When we did arrive at the actual brothel, I sat at a chair off to one corner and lit a cigarette. I didn't know where the hell Hopey was, but I know that one of the girls had conned Rj into buying a dance. My heart leaped when I noticed a man walk into the room, wearing a black trenchcoat and hat. He went straight up to the bar and pulled a gun on him. I stood up, cigarette still in hand. "Give me the money! Give me the motherfucking money!" demanded the thug. I tapped him on the shoulder. He turned and went to aim his gun at me, but didn't have time. Mine was already aimed at his chest. "You don't want to roll this place. This place belongs to the Fuller family. You have a penalty to pay for even stepping in here with a fucking IDEA against the family," I said. I wrapped his neck in a chokehold and took a hit off the cigarette, let the ashes fall to the ground, and touched the burning end to his cheek. He yelled out in pain, and back-hand bitchslapped me over his shoulder. "Oh, you got balls, kid. I outta knock your ass out right here, right now. But I'm not going to do it." I turned and thought a minute. "The hell I'm not!" I delivered five knuckles into the kid's jaw. Hopey came back into my line of sight, having heard the punch. He was staggering, because he was trying to buckle his dress pants and take control of the situation all at the same time. "Damn, Tony, nice punch. Guys, get him out here. He needs to be taught a lesson." TO BE CONTINUED... |

King walks over and listens to the story, thinking to himself this is exactly what I was hoping for when I started the Street Cred Award. Excellent story mate, I will most assuredly be keeping my eye on you. Keep up the good work. |

I sat back in my chair, looking at my knuckles. They were bruised, but they'd heal. One of the whores had told me which room Rj was in, so I kept my eye trained on that particular door. I heard a yell in the background, followed by the sound of knuckles hitting jaw. Suddenly, a weird feeling went through my stomach, and I knew what it was. I had been born with an instinct when something big was about to happen. Of course, a couple of seconds afterward, I heard footsteps. A lot of them, heading up the stairs at a quick pace. I jumped up and pulled my pistol as a bullet hit my scotch glass that sat on the table, waiting for me to endulge myself in a drink. I ran over and dove behind the bar, while whores went for cover. I slipped a clip in my pistol and snuck over to the edge of the bar. I carefully aimed my pistol. A bullet hit a man armed with a Tommy gun as he went to make a spray. Strangely, it wasn't from my gun. I looked up and, before a bullet wizzed by my ear, I saw Rj. I had to smile because he'd left his dress shirt and jacket in the room, and was standing there barefoot and in dress pants. "Johnny!" said Rj, as he got a look at one of them. I looked back and, sure enough, it was the consiglierie, who had a shocked look on his face. "Shit, you weren't supposed to be here," said the traitor. Nervously he looked around as I tried to line up a shot. He busted out a window and jumped out onto the fire escape. Rain poured in through the window. Guards began to pour from the back room, and their gunfire was enough to distract the other attackers. I took off in a sprint and jumped through the window. I overshot it, though, and I fell over the edge. My hand just barely gripped onto the wet metal. With one hand saving me from becoming roadkill, I put my pistol in the crack between the bars and the ground. I carefully climbed over and grabbed onto my pistol, and ran up the fire escape. Johnny stood there, halfway between me and the steps to go downstairs. He looked at me, and aimed his gun. I aimed mine, and we began to circle each other. "Johnny, why?" I asked. "Christ, Tony, I thought you were smarter than that. So I could have the family. Washington Heights was mine to begin with," said Johnny with a smirk. I heard footsteps. I turned and saw another man with a pistol aimed at me. I drew my second and aimed it at him. "What the hell are you talking about?" I asked. Johnny gave a laugh. His companion began to walk towards me, and so did he. They pushed me back towards the edge of the building, and stopped when my heel just hit the rooftop. "You really are an idiot. I was passed over! Sidious would have given me a family if Fuller hadn't came along. He did something and Sidious gave him the job. I've been plotting my revenge for weeks. The attack on your home, the near hit on Fuller, that was my doing, "And you couldn't figure it out." Johnny gave me an evil look, and hit me with the end of his pistol. I fell backwards, but managed to get a hold of the roof. Rain poured on my body, and my arm became tired. The pistols had fallen from my hands to the ground, and I could hear them crack as they hit pavement. I looked down at the street, and took a big gulp. It was a long drop. TO BE CONTINUED... |

Here's the end. I hung from the ledge of the roof, looking at the foot that hung precariously over the one hand that kept me alive. The foot's person gave a laugh that shook my core, and began to bring his foot down hard. I gave a yell and grabbed onto his foot. I flung him over the edge, catching his gun as it fell out of his pocket. I looked back up and saw Johnny aiming his gun at me. He smiled. "I'm sorry, Tony. I guess I'll see you in hell," he said. "You first," said Rj, who was standing behind him. With a gun barrel at Johnny's ear, Rj pulled the trigger, and Johnny went tumbling. I watched him fall down the large building and crash through the roof of a car. "Shit, that was my car!" I said. Rj and Hopey helped to pull me up and I dusted myself off. "Shit, Rj, nice save," I said. "Hopey would have been here quicker but he went back to one of the women. Come on, let's get the hell out of here," he said. |
