He was 15 when he was given his first gun, a 22 revolver. He could not hear a word his father told him as he gazed at the nickel plated revolver. He glanced up at the two men that would accompany him on the piece of work he was going to perform. He was terrified nervous on the inside but he looked calm on the surface. Then he snapped back into reality as his father gives him the picture and the instruction once more. He nods that he understands; still amazed at the gun in his hands. Then he thinks on the words his father told him. Stand at the news stand the man will walk up to you; take a quick look at the picture then the guy then turn to walk away as your behind him point at the back of his head and fire two shoots. Once he falls walk to the car across the street and get in, don't look at anyone. He arrived at the stand and pay's for a news paper. The stand owner turns away and Vic quickly tucks the gun inside the half folded news paper and within seconds a wealthy looking gentlemen walks up to purchase a news paper. Vic recognized him immediately and steps behind the man trying to get out of his way. Vic then point's the gun at the Gentleman's head. Vic fired once, twice, three times then twice more he never heard the shoots he just squeezed the trigger until the man went down. He glanced at the news stand owner then recalled his fathers words don't look at anyone and walk across the street he had blood droplets on his face and clothes. He point at the stand owner and walked quickly across the street a crowd came as the black sedan drove off the police arrived but the stand owner keep saying he didn't see the shooter as loudly as he could so that people in the crowd knew he was not going to snitch. Meanwhile Vic was stripping off his clothes, his shoes and socks included and putting them into a paper bag to be burned. Then he started putting on fresh clothes a nice expensive suit. His father nodding proudly as the two men retold him the story of the event. As Vic was putting on his tie two cops arrived in uniform and confirmed that the new stand owner kept his mouth shut and no-one else saw a thing. They also confirmed that it was the correct target. Vic's father handed them a small envelope and they quickly jumped into their squad car and drove off. One of the men that accompanied Vic grabs the bloody clothes that were hastily stuffed in a large paper bag. The man pulled out a flask and poured the contents over the bag and started walking over to a burning trash can and dropped the bag. The flames inside the trash can roared, and the four men walked away from the auto garaged Vic's father owned. While workers continued to dump flammable items into the burning trash can thru the night. They pile into another car and drive off towards up-town Manhattan. They arrive at the family's night club. Vic had made a name for himself and earned his fathers pride but he was not made off that hit. It took many, many more before the Family Don recognized Vic for his efforts. That's a tale for another night. |
