How much is too much interference/assistance from the g Started by: SKM on Jul 01, '15 09:32

Now as many of you are aware we are lucky in that we are able to communicate with the gods through the second coming of the messiah in the form of Squishy and his team of help desk disciples.

Communication seems to go both ways with some of my fellow brothers and sisters frequently interacting with the holy one and his disciples.

This is something that I see no problem with. Different people draw strength and reasoning from different places and by having a point of contact and someone to talk to some Mafioso’s seem to grow stronger because of it.

Another point to be noted is that the gods love us all and never seem to want to take sides in any wars or conflicts no matter how hard people pray to them for assistance. In fact it has been claimed that there were even occasions many moons ago, when even our Pappi’s Pappi hadn’t been born, that the gods smote those who tried to use their influence to persuade the disciples to assist them in some way shape or form.

Now to shoot forward a few decades to more recent events!

After the last big war, where many of our forefathers died, there was a large influx of youngsters running the street with nowhere to call home (I was one of them myself). Now due to the lack of homes and the high costs of setting up new headquarters for would-be leaders, the church decided they would loan money from the church coffers to would-be leaders to help them set up, and in the event that the money was not paid down in a timely fashion the holy messiah would have a quick word in the ear of god himself and smite the ungrateful wretches down.

I know discussions happened on the streets back then as well as more hushed discussions in the back of local coffee shops regarding the reasoning for the assistance from the gods themselves. I also understand the argument put forward by the gods, in that without their assistance there would be no homes for those landing on our shores for the first time, and without homes where would the protection be. I have to say in my opinion I am truly unconvinced by the arguments both for and against and have a barrel full of meh feeling about this matter.

My next point regarding assistance from the gods is that of the rounding up of those poor fools who pledge their allegiance to the most dreaded of all leaders, the infamous Tyler Durden. This group seem to be continually hunted for the amusement of ourselves. I am fully aware that on occasion the setting up by Tyler and his band of merry men and even merrier women is financed by members of our own community, and who am I to question or demand a stop to this? People are free to do as they will with their own finances. But on occasion (as the storied passed down from one generation to another go) the gods themselves sometimes finance Tyler themselves as a bit of a reward to us. Now besides the fact that I am utterly jealous that the gods will be willing to finance Tyler to set up and yet never finance me (have to be careful here not to make demands of the gods and be blasted away in a bolt of lightning), is this truly a role the gods should be taking? Are the gods not the creators of this universe and merely here as observes or is a bit of assistance (some may call it interference) required to keep things running smoothly?

Also if we do wish things to run nice and smoothly, then why is this? Surely a bit of chaos and confusion can only be good as with chaos and confusion there is presented before us opportunities ready to be grabbed with both hands.

I am also aware that the gods may be angered by my words and musings but hopefully they understand it is in no way, shape or form a criticism of what they do.

The irony of all this is that I stuttered when addressing the crowd so it may be unclear what the subject was that I wished to talk about today. And because of this I was advised to contact one of the lovely disciples to assist me in changing the subject placards posted around my 'soapbox'.

I'd like to address your comments regarding the infamous Durden gang. I'm not entirely sure what you meant by the gods financing this group. Are you saying that there are occasions when the gods themselves without any interaction from us mere mortals, hire this gang to attack our fine people?

I think we would find this to be a very very rare occasion if true. As far as I'm aware, most if not all instances that this group arrive to fight with us, is down to something that we ourselves have done. For instance, the Tyler gang keep an eye on us very well and they watch how many contract kills we do. I believe they have a certain number of kills that they wait for before making the trip from Delaware for another fight with us. I guess they like to make things interesting and make sure we are trained and ready for the fight. This means we have regular battles with them due to the number of people there are here that enjoy contract killing.

The other occasions they arrive is when a group of people, or sometimes just 1 person, decides to hire them en masse. These don't happen as often as many seem to suggest, but still more than many would like. I personally enjoy the battles with the Durden gang so this doesn't bother me at all, but I appreciate others do feel there are too many visits from the gang - anyway, I'll leave that there since your comment was only about the gods themselves arranging for the gang to visit.

Perhaps you can shed a bit more light on these instances for me so that I can fully understand your point of view in this regard.

Steer clear of the gods they will do you no favours in the long run

"If you are calling assistance and Durdens interference - then I am afraid I find you delusional.  Both are there and serve to make this life just a little more interesting.  Therefore, I for one certainly embrace both of these options presented by our gods.  The other point I would make is that both of these things are there for everyone in our community.  It does not offer an advantage to one person over another.  There is fairness and for that I don't think that there should be any issues."

Firstly chuckyknuckles, in a time where cities are united I find it poor form for you to be out here and calling a fellow Philadelphian delusional. Especially when you are both men of honour. I think he deserves more respect from you than that.

Secondly, in my opinion the HQ funding was not necessary, especially with the leaders enforcing the protection order on people under 7 days old, to me there seemed to be enough time to raise the funds but if it helped in some way then so be it, if it sped up the process of people getting sponsored again then I'm all for it.

Thirdly, the Durdens are always a welcoming sight and they will certainly help towards creating a level playing field between those on top and those who are clawing their way up there after the war. In the past the only people who have seemed to be a little irked at the Durdens was whichever regime was on top. Personally, I thank any assistance from the gods is fine, we all need a little help from time to time.

In my opinion, the gods help us out a huge amount, despite this though there are occasions when they (in my opinion) interfere a little too much. The only other fault I find they have is that they tend to take things a little too personally at times and reply in a similar manner.

Chucky tips his cap to Docholiday.

"Poor form indeed sir.  Spoken in haste for sure.  Allow me to rephrase to make it more palatable:

I must respectfully disagree with your opinion on the matter.  I hope that this does not affect our relationship in representing this great city of ours and you're able to look past this unsightful use of language.

However spoken though I would suggest that it's something in this life that has added flavour to the game, and has not made anything unfair for any of us.  I for one appreciate the generosity of the gods."

Chucky stands in the mob and observes the conversation unfolding.

SKM, maybe you should try a spawn on your own and be 1%ed by a Tyler of your own choice. And come back to talk deep philosophy again.

Not that I didn't apreciate yours, so dense and clear, but what yor final point is? You think you can win an inexistant war against "a" or "some" messias? Quite delusional.... Some people always have the choice to fight on, or to bow down. Some don't. Choose your path wisely... Coz Tyler might be waiting for you around the corner somewhere...
