Marietta steps onto the Streets, a grave look etched across her face. As she travels across to the standard announcement soap box, a crowd gathers. Some people look just as torn as she does. Some people are crying. Once in awhile a voice cries out "GRHS RECKLESS HEARTS". Stepping onto the overturned crate gently, she takes a deep breath and holds up her hands for silence. In the back of her mind she wonders where the fuck her golden podium went to.

Every once in awhile something happens that reminds us that not all that is gold can stay. Like my golden podium, they can disappear without warning. HydroPhonic and the Reckless Hearts were a shining example of what a hard working, stable and steady family should be. I enjoyed their time in Detroit immensely, yet sometimes even those with the best intentions can have other paths to take in their life. While I would have loved to live to see them achieve heights they were deserving of, it was not to be. The best laid plans of mice and men, et al.

While I will take the time to mourn later, I often find that moving on is sometimes the hardest part of every tragedy. Yet the best way to combat that is to move forward. Sometimes just taking that initial step forward will get you started on your new path, and before you know it your troubles are long behind you and you can breathe free once more.

So Detroit is taking that first step as immediately as we can.

Detroit has lost a female leader, and so I will be replacing her with another female leader. Call me weird that way, but I feel having that touch of feminine power amongst the male figureheads keeps us balanced. And what a woman this new Captain is. This woman is eloquent, well spoken, and a rose among the thorns of the common mobster. You may have seen her often in the Streets, for she is a very opinionated and passionate woman. Active and stubborn- in a good way, I suppose, knowledgeable and with a good head for business, I have no doubt in my mind that she will be an asset to my organization.

This woman has also, today, received her Don promotion. I wanted to give it to her under better circumstances, yet as I said before- often times plans go awry.

I hope you will all help in congratulating my lovely, darling daughter Kates, for her new rank of Don and her new position as the newest Detroit Captain.

Congratulations, my girl. Spread your wings and fly, for I know that you will be a great addition to our city. You already have been thus far. Well done.

Congratulations, Miss Kates.  I'm sure you will do well as caporegime.

The Hammer melts out of a shadow across the road, and silently approaches Kates.  Before her bodyguards can ask, "Hey, who's this wise guy?", he has evaded their clutches and stands before the Don, shoulders back, looking down at her stern but perfectly sculpted face.  For a moment, their eyes meet, and neither says a word.  Just as the silence nears an uncomfortable length, The Hammer's basso profundo rumbles...

Allow me to be the first to congratulate you, madam. 

A car backfires behind Don Kates, and she whips around, pistol at the ready.  Relaxing, as she realises it was a false alarm, she turns back to The Hammer...who is gone, leaving just a faint smell of aftershave and cordite on the breeze.
