| Is It All That Different? | Started by: Early90sTechno on Jul 06, '15 14:28 |

Earlier today, I responded to a Street speech with something that was so well thought out and clever that I surprised myself, even with my own very high standards. Are we so very different? And if not, what does it really matter? We are metaphorically in a restaurant wanting the same things. Let us reimagine this world as a party of four instead of hundreds, and that what we wants is some good, rather than fame, wealth, power and prestige. Let us further funnel these imaginings into four people Let us call them Persons A, B, C and D. A, B, C & D all order cheeseburgers with fries and a coke. But A, B and C want theirs with mustard, D with none. Meanwhile, B, C and D want extra pickle, but A just wants the standard. B and D want onions, A wants fried onions, and C wants none. A and D want "catsup", whilst B and C don't. So what do we have? Four people wanting the same thing in different ways. But are they really different? |

man o man, this guy is great. Appel was just walking around an heard someone talking about food. And he like everyone liked food. he was listening to what the person had to say and then he saw where he was going towards.
"it seems like you get it, and it seems i'm person A. but never mind that, the one thing you mis i the fact that in the mind of those people hey think that er is only enough food for 3 of the 4 people that are our there. and when someone is trying to take your food you make sure that you get your own food. "
Appel wanted his own burger right now but he had to finish his talk.
"but what they don't get is that there are more than 6 hamburger left so they might even eat more than they want. But i get your point, we are al in this world lets start living together not against each other. And i like that you make it a metafore."
then he walked away from this guy and started to look for a burger joint that was still open after these day's |

In theory no, they're all hamburgers. The differences lie only in the way that they are prepared and that's where things get iffy when you try to compare them so say, humans. In this day and age there's many different thoughts, wars have been waged over human beings for gods sake, people! When you look at it, people on this earth all have skin and bones and blood and the same organs. They all have brains and eyes and ears and hands and feet, they're all the same, but wait! They have different hair, some in color some in texture, same with eyes and skin, hell even some people's ears are attached at the bottom and some have earlobes that are detached. So in theory we're all the same but we're also different. What matters isn't the fact that things are different or the same, what matters is the way that people perceive things and how they handle things. Person A would get pretty mad if he got person C's hamburger because it's not what he wanted but there are a few ways to approach it, some positive and some negative. To persons A and C yeah, it IS all that different. Differences can be a good thing, sometimes there's conflict but there can also be resolution when differences are brought out and discussed and a middle ground can be established. There are some people who will never lay aside their differences, even if they say they will. They will fester and burble until they explode out of anger because of a real or imagined slight and they will take action. There are some who are initially confrontational but allow their anger to subside in order to promote the greater good, and then there are those who are difficult to rile up and who stand as peacemakers. I guess what I'm trying to say is this. Yes each person is a person, just as a hamburger is a hamburger/ In your example, the addition of toppings makes each hamburger unique and while it's still a hamburger, it's a different hamburger than the others. People are people no matter their color, religion, beliefs, stances, or any other physical or mental attribute but they are not all the same in that their differences set them apart. Hamburgers are food, you could make them all the same if you wanted to but people can't be made exactly the same no matter how hard you try. |
