Christopher Phillips Industries Started by: Credits on Jul 07, '15 21:34

Credits looked around the abandoned warehouse in Bella Vista's industrial district, entirely unimpressed, whilst the landlord rubbed his hands together nervously noting his every move. He was an irritating man, with beady, distrusting eyes and overly large ears that offended the rest of his face.

"It's a fair price!" The man said breaking the silence, fighting hard to keep himself in check with only a twitch at the corner of his mouth threatening to betray his need. Credits knew full well nobody else was interested in the unit; the recession had killed the city's manufacturing industry, so the man was desperate and needed the letting. Badly. There was movement in the price, he was sure, but it didn't suit his purpose for the man to pay any attention to what he used it for, so he ready to pay him what he wanted. After a little gamesmanship, anyway.

"Hmph." Credits grunted "looks like a fucking shithole from where I'm standing...." The landlord sharply inhaled, about to defend his extortionate demands again but Credits waved a hand to shush him "...but I'll take it. On two conditions."

The landlord's already narrowed eyes, scrunched up even further, making him look faintly Chinese, as he tried to work out the angle and see if he was being played.."What conditions?" he asked full of suspicion.

"First, I pay you 6 months in advance. A friend of mine will come by your house and put an envelope in your mailbox with the rent, and another month's pay on top for you. This will happen every 6 months until I don't need this place anymore" Credits said, the landlord's poker face dropping in an instant the second the money was mentioned. An offer this strong, in a market this bad was almost too good to be true.

"What's the second condition?" The landlord asked sheepishly.

"You don't come by here again. This place belongs to me and what I decide to do with it is my business. You don't let the units either side of this one without my say so. If you get any tenants interested in them, you send them to another of your units. I'll compensate you if that happens, but I'll want proof; I'm not putting your kids through college on your fucking say so" Credits listed his conditions without raising his voice, stating them matter of factly. This was going to happen.

"But..but" The landlord wheedled, although they both knew they had a deal. The man was more interested in the money than anything else; now it was just haggling.

"Two months on top for you." Credits said, raising an eyebrow as the landlord flushed.

"I...I don't know" he said, but he sounded very much like he did know and he would be taking the deal "what'll you be using it for?"

Credits sighed "I'm in the newspaper business and I'll be using this place to get my venture off the ground. But that isn't any of your concern. My money is good. My word is even better; ask around. Ask people who I am and they'll tell you that I'm a man you can count on and one you can trust." He paused, letting that sink in, before he let the other shoe fall. The one that had the brick in it. "You can ask Cersei Lannister for a reference if you need one."

Bingo, the landlord visibly shook, realising for the first time the man he was dealing with.

Unsurprisingly, it all went very smoothly after that - amazing what the name of the local (reputed) mob boss will do. The landlord handed the keys to Credits with shaking hands and nodded politely when Credits told him the lease would be in the name of "Christopher Phillips Industries". He didn't have the balls to question the doubtlessly phony corporation now occupying his unit. He took his money and ran the moment the deal was done, just as Credits had thought he would.

Alone in the unit, he smiled to himself.

He was back in business.

When the news reached her that Credits had managed to acquire some property in Bella Vista, Cersei smiled. Everything was coming along most wonderfully. The war had shaken Philadelphia to its core, but tonight was the first step in the long road back to bringing Philly back to prosperity. She made her way around to his new property, armed with a bottle of her strongest moonshine, and upon finding him just walking back into the building, called out.

"Hey, Credits! Congratulations my friend".

Passing him the moonshine, she tips him a wink.

"I think you may need that by the time we've got this whole rebuilding show on the road, no? I'm delighted to have you alongside me in Bella Vista, sir. I take it that my name was all the reference you needed to secure this place? I had to "deal" with the guys brother a few months ago, he was trying to play smart with us back then. It was a fantastic funeral that guy had, y'know. Lots of flowers. Very touching."

A dreamy but deadly expression crossed Cersei's face.

"You know where I am, my dear, if you need anything. Congratulations again on picking up the building, it's in a fantastic spot."

While strolling the streets of PH, Swaggy notices a familiar business scheme off in the distance, intrigued he approaches for a closer look. As he gets closer to the building he notices several men in coats holding large weapons. Careful not to be see he sneaks around back and finds an empty milk crate and props it up near an old dirty window. He brushes off the dirt and peers in noticing a familiar face at the entrance to the building realizing he doesn't have to sneak around he runs around front forgetting about the tons of dudes with guns, they begin to yell at Swaggy STOP RIGHT THERE! Swaggy stops and looks with his hands in the air. The familiar face in the crowd approaches Swaggy and orders his men to stand. Swaggy gains his composure and walks up to Credits,

Congrats on setting up your winks business here in Philly, You are just what Philly needs to build strong. If you ever needed anything don't hesitate to ask.

Swaggy reaches out his hand to shake Credit's hand and smiles. then turns around to the crowd and pulls out a flask from his coat. Swaggy pours 2 shots and hands one of them to Credits, they both throw back the shots like nothing as Swaggy yess Salute! to credits. Swaggy lets Credits get back to what he is doing as Swaggy runs to the nearest bathroom to clean himself up after the close call.
